Its a shame that you're backtracking. You presented some gorgeous evidence that agreed also with Iriemon. It was jolly nice to see such agreement.

The USA also has the highest amount of deductions and other preference items that result in lower net taxable income. Naturally, this was ignored by the delusional OP and his ''source''.

Say? You gave the evidence like you should. Not surprisingly that evidence supported Iriemon too.

So reiver, I showed you Exxon Mobil's 2011 tax rate was 42percent. What do you think it should be?

Does that mean the actual rate of payroll taxes you paid was -0-? I think so.

Show the evidence you claim I gave. More likely you are taking something I posted out of context

Yet that is not the tax rate for my income. The tax rate is the starting point before deductions

Oh no, I've congratulated you for providing an appropriate international comparison of tax rates. And that's the obvious point that has been communicated to you fellows again and again: the OP is constructed around a deliberate misrepresentation

I'm just finding your backtracking terribly amusing. You didn't realise what you were referring to of course

Fact: The OP is not talking about effective rates. Even if it was, the U.S. is still up there on the list.

Why must you, Reiver and Iriemon make the OP into something that it is not. It was simply showing the U.S. as holding the highest coroproate tax rate since Japan lowered theirs...period.

Why did GE, Obama's big corporate donor, not pay any taxes in 2010, and GM (government Motors) is getting a sweet deal in billions of dollars in tax breaks? You libs whine about corporations, but only if they are run by Republicans.

You are completely wrong. I have never excluded individuals or corporations from paying low taxes. For that matter, I think the corporate taxes should be substantially reduced, and taxes increased on the individuals who benefit from the corporations instead.

Also, many corporations pay no taxes, not just GE:

You titled the thread: America officially has the highest taxes in the World...

What we pointed out is that your title is completely false, whether you look at corporate taxes or income taxes.

You OP post heading: "Morning Bell: The Highest Taxes in the World:"

What we pointed out is that your statement is completely false, whether you look at corporate taxes or income taxes.

And while the text of the OP does state that it is the highest rate, it then also makes statements that falsely imply that US corporations actually *pay* the highest rate, like this one: "This gaping disparity means every other country that we compete with for new investment is better situated to land that new investment and the jobs that come with it, because the after-tax return from that investment promises to be higher in those lower-taxed nations."

So in fact we have not made the OP into something it is not. What we have proved is that the OP is yet another example of distortion and false implication spun by the RW propaganda media and regurgiated in forums like this one.

An honest thread would have been titled and headed that the US corporate tax rate is the highest in the world, and the OP acknowledging the true fact that for actual taxes paid, US corporations (and individuals) pay among the lowest effective rates.

But then, that kind of honesty would not promote the conservative position nearly as well, would it?

    Standard ConservatIF rhetoric.

"IF" corporations actually paid the rate they were supposed to but never do, America would have the highest effective corporate tax rate in the world.

IF IF IF IF. Always IF. "IF" people would only be more responsible, "IF" companies would regulate themselves, "IF" people would just stop having children they can't support, "IF" people would just go out and get a job.

Reminds me of that one Shel Silverstein poem, "If the World Was Crazy".

If the world was crazy, you know what I'd eat?
A big slice of soup and a whole quart of meat,
A lemonade sandwich, and then I might try
Some roasted ice cream or a bicycle pie,
A nice notebook salad, an underwear roast,
An omelet of hats and some crisp cardboard toast,
A thick malted milk made from pencils and daisies,
And that's what I'd eat if the world was crazy.

If the world was crazy, you know what I'd wear?
A chocolate suit and a tie of eclair,
Some marshmallow earmuffs, some licorice shoes,
And I'd read a paper of peppermint news.
I'd call the boys "Suzy" and I'd call the girls "Harry,"
I'd talk through my ears, and I always would carry
A paper umbrella for when it grew hazy
To keep in the rain, if the world was crazy.

If the world was crazy, you know what I'd do?
I'd walk on the ocean and swim in my shoe,
I'd fly through the ground and I'd skip through the air,
I'd run down the bathtub and bathe on the stair.
When I met somebody I'd say "G'bye, Joe,"
And when I was leaving--then I'd say "Hello."
And the greatest of men would be silly and lazy
So I would be king...if the world was crazy.

The OP is fed by a deliberate misrepresentation. No such comparison can be made except with effective rates. And, as ptif219 has kindly confirmed, that evidence destroys your argument.

    The lie ^

    The Truth:

"Though U.S. business leaders complain about high taxation rates, the amount they actually pay is relatively low given the proliferation of tax credits and loopholes and efforts to move operations overseas. In recent years, for instance, General Electric, Exxon-Mobil, the Bank of America and Citibank paid no income taxes."

    http://www.christiancentury.org/article/2011-03/tax-benefit

That is because they get tax credits, carryback provisions, and deductions which reduce the taxes.

Therefore, contrary to the endless lies posted here by the right wingers, the Truth remains that the wealthy elites do not pay taxes as I have repeatedly proven on this forum.
