You may say Gorbachev was unfairly targeted by propaganda in his first year while on top. There was this incident as I recall when Gorbachev signed a deal with Reagan on arms limitations, and then Reagan backed out of it. However, this Time magazine cover dated to 1961 was right on the money. In the late 50s Krushchev signed a deal with Eisenhower which imposed a strict memorandum on a further nuclear testing. The Russians simply used this time to develop new improved nuclear weapons, and in 1961 unilaterally violated the memorandum by exploding their newest showpiece, the Tsar, a 58 megaton device, the biggest yield ever exploded. Krushchev was a nut.

Hmmm. Well your thread title includes the phrase "American Propaganda" as if this was all somehow falsehoods forwarded exclusively by the American government - which it obviously wasn't.

I do not think so. U.S. propogada just a lot more colorful than the propaganda of USSR. And it is a part of history, all posters presents in this thread are easy to find in Internet.

Propaganda imples misappropriations, exaggerations, lies and half-truths. Unlike Gorbachev however, Krushchev was never misunderstood. He was a total nutcase.
