Im am interested how he plans on securing the border or if they will just hold a photo op at a random place at the border and say " it looks secure to me!"

I would believe it has more to do with trying to prevent them from getting work. They would not come if there was no available jobs. How effective that would be, will depend on enforcement against the employers.

It's an improvement, but immigration is a fatality of big government.

The welfare system and government in general has created a massive disincentive for politicians to support free immigration. Without such measures it would be no problem to have free immigration (like you did before 1924). By far the biggest mistake of Calvin Coolidge's presidency was to sign the Immigration Act of 1924.

Anyway, immigration has always seemed to be to conservatives as gun control is for left liberals. It's that one issue that they completely agree with on principle, but because of petty preconceptions are opposed to. Sigh.

"that is contingent upon securing our borders and tracking whether legal immigrants have left the country when required;"

Question is how... They already have E-Verify just need to pass/use it but how are they going to secure the border.

12 Million more Democrat voters is nothing less than the suicide of the GOP.

The only way to prevent America from becoming a single party social democracy under Democrats is to halt and then reverse the process of importing socialists into America.

That necessarily means a harsh, "inhumane" deportation program with no chance of citizenship and an immediate halt to any and all immigration involving poor people from the 3rd world. We want rich capitalists in this country, not the unwanted dregs of the 3rd world. The days of the Emma Lazarus poem are dead and gone. We don't want that America anymore.

Rubio Outlines Bold Plan Giving 12 Million Illegals Legal Status

    Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013

    http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/rubio-immigration-plan-illegal/2013/01/13/id/471223/

(R-Tea Party) Sen. Marco Rubio is developing a wide-ranging immigration reform plan — including steps to give more than 12 million illegals currently in the U.S. legal status — in an effort to seize the initiative on a contentious issue that polls show is hurting the Republican Party with the nation’s rapidly growing Hispanic population.

So in ten years we will have to give amnesty to another 10 million?

Why not just open the border completely and be done with it? As long as people have incentive, such as known amnesty, they will continue to come here, you can't secure a border against that.

Only way to keep them out is to get them to want to leave on their own. That means taking away their jobs and services. 100%

The ones here cannot be put on a giant bus and sent home, and even if that were possible it would wreck the GDP and cause massive inflation. Sorry but that is just the way it is.

What we do need to do in my opinion

    1. get the troops out of the mid east and put them on border patrol
    2. make English the official language and if you can't or won't learn it then get your ass back home. No more press 1 for English or bi lingual signs in Home Depot or Lowes. If you don't want to assimilate then evacuate in other words. My wife's great grand parents came from Germany, guess what they learned English. If you are too stupid to learn then we don't need or want you in this country.

It looks like Rubio is positioning himself as a reasonable Republican, and trying to work with the Democratic leadership.

None of these proposals are new. All of them have been offered in various forms by George W Bush and Barack Obama.

It's no coincidence that Rubio's op ed appeared in a Las Vegas paper, and not the Miami Herald, the Times or the Post. Reid will adress the issue in LV on Tuesday.

The President has already said he wants immigration reform.

But these proposals have always fallen flat in the house. George W Bush couldnt' even get essentially the same set of propsals introduced on the floor when he had both houses of Congress.

Look for the tea party caucus and the "angry white men" to go to town on this one. We'll have Joe Arapio and his posse on the steps of the capitol!

I like Rubio, but NOT for his stance on this. Although, saying they must speak English is noteworthy. But what does that really mean? Hello and goodbye? Are they just given some sort of grace period to learn it, because that will be one massive stupid idea. If he said you MUST pass a test that proves fluent oral and written English, that right there will boot a huge chunk.

The word compassionate is what disturbs me the most. There really is NO compassionate way to do this. It HAS TO hurt. Its the only way, or we're doomed. Not a single illegal has been forced to come here. Not a one. Sure, kids were dragged along by greedy parents, but they are NOT citizens. Can't claim it. Just being here does not mean you're a citizen.

It really doesn't matter though. If immigration reform doesn't involve shutting up the border, it doesn't matter what laws they enact. They ONLY way to stop people from coming is to make it horrible to be here unless you're a citizen.. They will self deport or we'll round up the stragglers. It doesn't matter if all you know is the US. Its not OUR FAULT.

Everyone should have to report in and if you don't, you're out. Then once you report, you have to prove you'll be worthy to stay. That means having a skill we need. Another day laborer is not what we need. Someone with 5 kids is not what we need.

No jobs unless you're a citizen or you have a visa. No medical care. No education. NOTHING. Its so simple. You just have to lay the law down and stop giving a ^$&*#* about the feelings of people who should NOT have a single bit of influence. If they do, it just proves the system is screwed up and needs to be fixed.

If politicians think they need illegals on their side and those who support them, how completely &%*$(#$ up is that?

    - End birthright citizenship
    - Mandatory E-verify
    - Consistently penalize anyone hiring illegal immigrants, or assisting them
    - Remove access to education, employment, housing, all healthcare save for emergency care, tax based social benefits of any kind
    - Border security with far more boots on the ground, physical and technological fence
    - Continue to deport them as you find them

Something else which I hadn't thought of until now, is to tax the bejesus out of remittances.

Those are the only two you really need.

We know what business is hiring illegals so raid them every other week. 1st offense you get a 250k fine, 2nd offense we pull your business license shutting you down. If your a private individual its 10 years in prison.

If you pull jobs and services from illegals they will have no reason to be here and will leave on their own. Give them 6 months before the law takes effect so they have time to gather their belongings and head back to the border.

Yep, it's basically the answer to "we can't round up 12 million illegal aliens.". There's no need to, just create the conditions which cause them to do it themselves.

This is a great idea. Every country has the right to control the movement of capital over its borders. If aliens w/o a taxpayer ID # wish to move money we have every right to confiscate 75% as a tax.

What happens if this passes, and illegals refuse to become citizens?

What if illegals like making tax free money and sending it back home?

Will illegals still be illegals, if they give the finger to the IRS?

Earning income to send home is certainly one of the main incentives of those who immigrate here illegally. It's bad enough that they'd occupy employment which could be had by a legal immigrant or citizen, but it's doubly bad that they'd send illegally obtained money across the border.

I think a stiff tax would discourage that to some extent. Aside from making it almost pointless to obtain employment for that specific purpose, it might even stifle some of the funds being used to pay coyotes to bring more illegals across the border.

That was once known as friendly Indians scouting for the Cavalry.

But most of them were sent to the relocation camps in Florida right along with the hostile Apaches when they were no longer needed.

Rubio will be the darling of the lib news media until he runs for president against any Democrat likely to get the nomination.

Then the lib journalists will turn on Rubio and devour him like the pack of hungry (lap) dogs that they are.

Rubio's "DREAM Act" will be as damaging to his chances of getting the 2016 GOP Nomination for President......

as "Romneycare" was for Mitt Romney. :)

The US should build a Great Wall, like China's, but there could be snipers on it to shoot the invaders. It doesn't matter what it would cost!
