Maybe because there is no reason to be?

The groups of regressive thinkers such as the Christian fundies within their faith and the nominal Muslims within theirs who would endorse such ideas as that I would be tortured eternally for the supposed sin of inciting lust in men by going about with my hair uncovered.are groups deserving of no respect.

Did you have an on topic comment?

Who says you're going to Hell for not wearing a Hijab? You are aware not many Christians cover their hair, and not every Muslim wears a Hijab, right?

Why? Is there something wrong with choosing to wear a Hijab?

It's a Middle Eastern custom. There's no logical reason women outside of the Middle East should wear a hijab since it's not their custom. It makes as much sense as an Eskimo wearing cowboy boots in the Arctic on an ice floe while hunting seals.

That didn't answer the question though.

Why is it bad for a women to decide to wear a Hijab? It's a sign of modesty, and I have seen many non-Arab Muslims wearing it. From East Asian to Canadian. What would you say to them to try to convince them to take it off?

Or, if you prefer, why shouldn't Eskimos wear cowboy boots?

    Interesting.

To contrast, in 1 Corinthians 11:15, it seems to be saying a woman's hair is something of beauty, and rather than being covered, actually serves as a covering in place of a veil.

But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering. ~ King James

    In answer to your question...

I don't know, but personally do not think it necessary.

**edit --- quote is from King James version

Hijabs are examples of ethnocentric religious clothing. Just because I read the Bible it's not a reason for me to put tassels on all of my clothes. The whole thing is just one big costume party. This is the year 2013; it's not the year 620 in Arabia or Judea. It's time to bury that sorry past and that includes its costumes.

If women are wearing curtains on their head because they'll be beaten/scorned/vilified/shamed/go to hell if they don't then it's not much of a "choice"..

You say that, yet you can't actually mention any negatives that comes with a woman choosing to wear the Hijab which would support banning it. Just because it's an old custom is hardly a valid reason to ban something.

No, it shouldn't be banned except for in the US where, if you want a job your whole face should show.
If women choose WITHOUT ANY PRESSURE to look silly, that's their right

You can conduct a survey for yourself to see most Hijabi women choose to wear the Hijab.

In my family I have aunts and cousins who wear Hijab and aunts and cousins who dont. Some chose to, and some don't. Simple as that. Nobody is judged on the decision.

You have fallen for the "oppressive Hijab" stereotype.

Do you actually know what a Hijab is?

to follow the rules of the bible is free will, if a woman wants out of modesty to cover her head she should be allowed if she doesnt care she should be allowed to not

He is a Christian. The concept of covering your hair comes from the Bible. Naturally, the Bible will be brought up in a discussion with a Christian about a concept derived from the Bible.

Besides that one mention of the Bible he also stated how fashion for men and women is different. Which is true. Which you also ignored. I'll assume that you ignored it because you saw the word Bible and seemed to focus simply on that one word.

    Except he did answer it.

WHY do you think putting these words in query's mouth again is NECESSARY ????

    He put it so well...

The title of the thread is Should women cover their hair?

No burka or hijab mentioned...it's all "hair covering".

WHY do you think that a woman isn't "modest" if her hair is EXPOSED ???

hat's a perfectly good (unanswered) question when some posters contend that a woman covering her head indicates she's modest.

Why do women have to BE modest?

And AGAIN :if women wear silly things on their heads that is their right....if it's because they are forced to by religion, society, men, or anything else, it is just plain wrong.
