... I expect the showman who has exploited the rancour in the GOP to presage the Party's reorganisation, occasioning a tormented Sturm und Drang as its various factions struggle for dominion.

With no record of public service whatsoever, he constituted the culmination of the tectonic shift of the discontented from their elected officials to ideological media entertainers. Words are all they have to steal your heart away.

And what rough beast, its hour come round at last, slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

    Damned if I know.

Meanwhile, as the feisty geezers cavort toward oblivion, Bernie Sanders has struck a chord with younger, better-educated Americans that augers an enduring movement.

    So long TPs.

The nation has been delivered a Burn Notice.

Too Theatrical mate, but you gotta understand the last eight years of Obama have been like swimming with an anchor around our neck.
Trump's done a lot of public service, don't know where you got that.

Despite those who are alienated from America, the President, twice elected with popular majorities, currently enjoys an approval level that is about 15 percentage points higher than that of the Republicans in Congress.

The tv celebrity/tycoon has never held public office, never sponsored any bills, and all you have to dazzle you are his vapid utterances.

If I am mistaken and he has promoted any legislation as a private citizen, please list the bills he has pushed and the ways he has done so.

Unfortunately the GOP/right wingnuts long ago fell down the rabbit hole where expertise is elitist, knowledge is dismissed in favour of "gut instinct" and experience is suspect.

They are an emotional lot, but a coherent political entity that addresses legitimate concerns is needed.

Neither the Trumpie fantasists nor the Turtle-glued-to-the-pot strict constipationalists offer the nation any substantive hope.

I'm glad you said this, it's true. I think the support for Trump is partially a sign that some voters are tired of it.

President-Elect Trump is out performing the person whose supporters you call "better-educated" who somehow are still not smart enough to find a job, but okay. When the Trumpery has passed in 4 to 8 years get back to us.

I'll say this about Obama: I like him more than Bush. I think he's a better President than either McCain or Romney would be. But that still doesn't mean Obama's hot sauce. It just means he's been the "best" of crap.

If you expect him to be sponsoring bills as President you're in for a surprise. All he has to do legislatively is pick which bills to sign and which to send back for a supermajority. Personally I think his lack of experience is vastly more so related to a job in Congress, except his ability to know how to adopt a facade of personality and to simply do whatever will get them continued power (which I both Trump and Clinton have in droves despite the former's inexperience).

Of course his approval will be higher than that of Congresspeople - Congress practically always has less than a quarter of the nation behind them.

The nation is enduring the last hurrah of non-college-educated aging White males, smitten by the media celebrity.

He's a moderately-popular, mediocre politician in an age when most are loathed.

Trump is an opportunist, merely using the GOP as a vessel to feed his bloated ego.

He isn't a true Republican, he doesn't care sbout the GOP in the long-term, and he has no loyalty to the GOP beyond how many gullible voters he can work his con game on.

His con game seems to be working quite well on the intellectually gullible.

There is little chance of his ever holding public office or having the opportunity to offer any legislation despite the emotional folks dazzled by his shtick.

All national polls and oddsmakers are labeling him a loser.

Considering the blacks who don't have a college degree among them burning down their own neighborhoods to demonstrate their lives matter to the first black President, we should be in good hands then.

Resentment against minorities is a hallmark of the alienated and disgruntled Angry White Guys to which Senator Graham refers below.

As the nation becomes more diverse and better-educated, it is essential that the 89% White GOP welcome that diversity rather than spewing their contempt for their fellow Americans.

Chronic Hillary haters had the opportunity of nominating a credible candidate, yet they settled on the one with a considerably higher unfavorable numbers than she - 63% vs 54%.

I don't resent the ignorant, felons, the unemployed, or the lazy. In case you have not noticed, America is not becoming better educated. Quite the opposite.

After Trumpery has passed, I think that the GOP will need a time of reflection, self-evaluation and healing.

The GOP has been radicalized by extremists. This has made them unappealing to most voters. Their approval ratings are at an all-time low. The only way to get some respect back is to get rid of the extremists.

They may also want to ask themselves how they allowed the least-qualified candidate to become their party leader. GOP campaigning is more about entertainment than politics. But extremists are so desperate for a Washington outsider to lead them that they will latch on to anyone who isn't a politician.

Always funny when self identified socialists who are in favor of violent revolution and the taking of wealth, complain about "extremists" in the GOP. Just goes to show who the real extremists are, and what party they belong to.

Every study that I have checked shows a steady increase in the percentage of Americans with college and post graduate degrees in recent years.

If you are aware of contradictory findings, please provide links to such surveys.

    Well, I'm not a socialist.

Extremists in the GOP benefit me: they're destroying the party. They're basically getting Hillary elected.

Liberals have wanted Trump to get the nomination for months. His base is too hated by voters, especially Reagan Conservatives, Country Club Republicans, women Republicans, and educated Republicans.
