I can't beleive, we as a nation, have individuals defending Mr. Satorum's point of view on this comment. I guess these are exactly the type of people who would vote for him.

Look folks ... The President of The United States said ... quote; "every American should have the "OPPORTUNITY" to go to College".

Look up the word OPPORTUNITY and let us know what that means in the Conservative dictionary.

Question; are there any Mother's on this Forum who wouldn't want their Child or Children to have the OPPORTUNITY to go to College?

I think his issue is more about the mindset you see here...that people think that if they spent six years studying modern cinema and human sexuality (ie porn movies) and getting stoned and drunk that somehow that makes them 'better' than anyone else and thus gives them the authority to tell the rest of us that we are stupid and unable to make our own decisions regarding such things as what to feed our children and our health care.

All while driving cars WE built, using roads WE built, using plumbing WE installed, and eating food WE grew....

So what exactly is Rick Santorum's problem with the POTUS suggesting that Americans should strive to be the best they can be and Educate themselves.

What exactly is there to be afraid of from and Educated American Citizenry ...? If Advance Education was good enough for Rick Santorum, why is it a stretch for anyone else?

    What is he afraid of?

What is wrong with an Educated Mindset?

What's wrong with studying Modern Cinema or Human Sexuality?

How exactly dose anyone choosing to study whatever they want to study affect you personally?

MY salary, my quality of life and the fact that I have time to get on here is all I need to know that a college degree is not necessary.

and as far as your 'argument'...the people that drop out of high school or never complete it are the people that have OTHER problems besides education...it would make sense that the mentally ill for example would not be very highly employable, now wouldn't it? they are included in the 'not college educated'...there are other attributes that a college graduate has besides his degree so you cant' prove in any way that the actual degree is the sole reason that person is working. It could be his looks, it could be his personality, it could be the fact that most college graduates aren't mentally handicapped, or ill.

Ignorance (or witlessness) is a state of being uninformed (lack of knowledge).[1] The word ignorant is an adjective describing a person in the state of being unaware and is often used as an insult. Ignoramus is commonly used in the US, the UK, and Ireland as a name of someone who is willfully ignorant.

so you can say the same thing about college educated people...do YOU know how to test if a cow is pregnant? If a horse is colicing, do you know how to treat it? What about a hoof abcess?? any idea? then according to YOUR definition, then you are ignorant yourself.

see, libs want to call other people ignorant based on the idea that ONLY the knowledge or facts that they have learned in a classroom has any value. But the classroom isn't the only place to learn.

Knowing the origin of a word or what poet wrote what poem isn't any more important than knowing how to repair a water line....I would say it is actually LESS important...especially when you have water flooding your house...

THAT is the snobbery Santorum is speaking of...the idea that YOUR knowledge is 'better' than someone else's. You are not better than I am just because you know DIFFERENT things than I do.

you finally got it...we are defending his POINT OF VIEW that it is snobbery to think that just because you go to college, you're somehow better than everyone else.

Please...Santorum's point-of-view on college and higher education is the same as Obama's point-of-view on college and higher education.

An opportunity for every American guaranteed by Uncle Obama.

As I and others have pointed out the real knock on Obama is blind faith in the liberal public education system to accomplish more than it is capable of.

At the bottom the lib public teachers are incompetent and can barely teach every child to read and write.

And in many case the public teachers fail to even do that.

But at the top Obama thinks that the greedy professors will stop raising the price of college long enough for government subsides to catch up and cover the cost of education for all students.

Look up the word OPPORTUNITY ...

Do you have Kids ... would you want your children to have Opportunities?

What is the great fear from the Right about Opportunities?

Why are they soo afraid of Education?

Why are they against Americans being Educated?

    Hummm ... think about it.

While you're thinking ... what exactly do you think is going on in Churches every Sunday? Isn't parishioners being taught something? about God?

What opportunities does an high school dropout have to go to college?

    I am all for education.

That's why I want to see vouchers that would allow every parent to take their child out of the failed public schools and send them to a private school if they want to.

Then they will have a chance to get a good education that might lead to college if they want to.

But as it stands now the lib public teachers are not even teaching every child to read and write much less preparing them for college.

    Are you Guys F'ing dense?

IF A PERSON; INDIVIDUAL, AMERICAN ... Freely Chooses, by their own Free Will ... to Go to COLLEGE ... THEN The United States of America wants to make sure THEY have the OPPORTUNITY to go to College.

I can see why this is so hard to for idiots to understand ... maybe if they took some remedial reading they would be able to comprehend this concept without getting a headache.

Personally ... if Republicans want their children to NOT have OPPORTUNITIES for College ... I couldn't care less.
