Then demonstrate precisely how your claim and position are correct. Do not simply claim it to be, actually prove it to be the case.

I served in the military and have probably forgotten more about guns than you will ever know. I have also worked with law enforcement and had the benefit of FBI instructors and police firearms training simulations.

Your false sense of security is glaring obvious to anyone reading your posts. Prevention and deterrence are smart precautions to take because allowing a situation to escalate to where you need to use your gun to defend yourself is downright foolish.

Owning a gun does not "protect" you. It is only going to "protect" you AFTER you have allowed yourself to become the VICTIM of a life threatening situation AND if you are lucky enough to be able to use it effectively in a split second while you are still half asleep.

Sun Tzu points out that you don't fight battles where your enemy has all of the advantages. In your case you are giving away the element of surprise and timing and have nothing to delay them long enough to give you time to use your only defense as a last ditch Hail Mary response. Furthermore you have no reserves or alternative strategy.

You don't learn any of this by osmosis just because you grew up in a military family. You will only learn it the hard way assuming that you survive in the unfortunate event that the worst case scenario occurs.

I don't take precautions because I am a "liberal". I take them because I have a family to protect and understand that I am human and thus likely to make mistakes. It would be the height of arrogance for me to assume that I could protect them just because I had a gun in the house. Instead I take prudent measures to prevent and deter a life threatening situation from happening in the first place.

Like Sun Tzu I want the odds in my favor and therefore I make it as difficult as possible to take me by surprise and to have as many resources on hand to defend myself and my family.

Or to put it in the simplest possible terms I don't want to become just another FBI firearms statistic so I take the advice of law enforcement professionals seriously when it comes to safety.

Your gratuitous ad hom is duly noted and ignored for being all too obvious flamebaiting.

"Current" gun fetish? Americans have enjoyed the ownership and use of guns before we were a country. What makes you think our desire to own guns is anything new, promulgated by the NRA?

Are you denying that the NRA has obstructed bills to introduce background checks and other measures to keep guns out of the hands of terrorists and the mentally unstable? Are you denying that the NRA has become a shill for the gun manufacturers?

as opposed to the silly anti NRA nonsense? we get that you don't like the NRA and the politicians it supports. DO you actually have any rational suggestions on how to stop the people who buy sell and import millions in narcotics across our borders from getting guns?

    - - - Updated - - -

wishful thinking by leftwing rag sheets. if someone doesn't have a record how can you deny them a constitutional right even if you claim they are terrorists or "mentally unstable?

Your previous posts and obvious misunderstanding of how firearms work suggests your statement is fake news.

Oh wait you're talking about that Chinese guy. Is he the one who told you to wait patiently for an armed response?

Now you do realize that if a man is charging at me and this man has a tiny face that's moving around a lot... well.... I can just shoot him in the chest ... over and over and over again.

Or I can wait for an armed response while tiny face man rapes me.

This is pretty good fiction. no one with the background you claim to have would be spewing nonsense about the NRA being responsible for all those deaths that are attributable to felons killing felons and suicides.

If...for what ever reason, i decided that i was going to rape you specifically, (that feels odd just typing it!)....i probably wouldn't do it at your home becuase the breaking in element would put me in a weak position.

From what i gather, rape is often a sign of power to some men so i'm not sure why making it over complex would work.

Again, maybe this is another difference between the UK and USA but most rapes seem to happen outside rather than being the result of someone breaking in to someone house....but, as i've said before, the USA does appear to be a far more brutal place than the UK.

Mate - lets be clear - i would never, ever, ever stand in the way of one americans right to shoot another american.

Every country has its own natural culling process and i'm fully up for Americans owning as many guns, grande launchers or missiles as they want.

I know you have the right and...to be honest that doesn't really interest me. What does is how the original and historical reasons have shifted to the modern " i need to protect my family" idea.

Well where do you plan on doing it? I live in Las Vegas, there's no designated rape spots. There's no dark alleys in the city of lights. (Edit to add. Actually there's probably more dark alleys. So ummm don't read this paragraph.)

Yep! That's why the ugly get raped too.

Truthfully I don't know where rapes happen the most. I could research it but I don't want to.

I just know that the only place I'm alone is at home. There's no place outside that I'm alone. Now where I use to live in Lancaster Pennsylvania I was out in the rural areas and often I was alone. But I'd see you coming a mile away and it's possible I'd be armed.

Still, I get your point. You'd look for an opportunity that decreases your chance of being shot in the face.

P.S. Only parts of the U.S. are more brutal than the U.K.
America is a big place. 325 million people. 3000 miles across. There's a lot of very safe cities and towns.

Thank you for tacitly admitting that you support the NRA and allowing terrorists and the mentally unstable to have access to lethal firearms.

Ironic coming from someone who pretended to have been raised in a military family to have zero knowledge whatsoever of one of the greatest military generals of all time.

The NRA is all about gun safety.
And not on a mission to cause death.

But since I trained in the Army and when they issued me various weapons, they did not tell me they were in my hands to save people, but to kill as many as i was able to.

If the NRA was there to cause mass killings, as is our own entire military are there for, I would be talking as you talk.

I got trained to use various machine guns. I am not sure, but don't imagine the NRA is there to do that.

I got trained to toss hand grenades. I don't suspect the NRA offers that, but my own government does.

So who do you trust? The agent of mass destruction or group with the specific mission to save lies, to wit: the NRA?

Great job exposing your own ignorance of firearms. The stopping power of a .22 round is negligible and your window of opportunity is negligible given that he is charging you already.

I gather the concepts of deterrence and crime prevention are things that you have never heard of before.

Instead you rely entirely upon a fictional Hail Mary single shot for your "protection" which explains the false sense of security.

    - - - Updated - - -

Your blind support of the NRA and it's obstruction to background checks says volumes.

Hail Mary? I'm not throwing the bullet by hand. I'm shooting it. Do you even understand how guns work??

You are half asleep and entangled with bedding while you try to aim a rifle at an effective target of only 4 square inches that you probably can't even see in the dark so your odds of hitting that moving target with your single shot is, at best, a Hail Mary chance.

Even in Vegas I wouldn't bet on those kinds of odds with my own life on the line.

Just stop and think about it.

For a .22 bullet to be effective at stopping someone you either have to hit their brain or their spine. That means that your target area is effectively the eyes, nose and forehead which is a very small area. Acquiring a moving target in your sights means also predicting which way it is moving and adjusting your aim to compensate because with only 4 square inches you don't have any room for error. The odds of even being able to see your target in the dark are difficult enough and the fact that it is moving makes it the kind of shot only an expert marksman could expect to hit.

I have taught both my daughters to shoot for the hips and groin for that very reason, the range of movement is far smaller than the head.

Once perp is down, then follow up with head shots as needed.

How do we eliminate the bad guys?

I think one of your points is a lot of bad people use those guns in illegal ways

Would we wish to perform gestapo like tactics on the nice gun owners?

Then explain me why such a well-known threat like the Florida shooter was not only allowed to have a legal gun, but able to travel with his gun please!

When where these times in Germany please? Nazi time is not such a time which has to do with gun law!
However, the job of all security services is to prevent issues too due to pre-investigations and not only to safe thing against attacks on the way. All in all in Europe not even 10 issues and multiple of them could be prevented! As you, 100% safety is a fairy tale … Services must be always successful at any trials of terrorists … terrorists can try a million time and must only be 1 time successful!
And of course do services mistakes, being lazy or stupid too … as there are always gaps existing which are used by terrorist scum.

About refugees we have in Germany a strange political situation!

The far lefties in Germany, particularly of party “PDS = Party of Democratic Socialism” which is the successor of the Communist Party of East Germany and who gains around 10% of votes in average at elections (a party very unlike to exist in USA) deny any context of terror of refugees and fight anyone who does to be a Nazi Scum idiot.
The far righties in Germany of party “NPD = National Party of Deutschland = hidden Nazis” declare anything what is not German in 4th generation as terror threat and get not even 2% of votes. But the lesser righty “AfD = Alternative for Deutschland” gets about same as PDS in elections, maybe more, and connects refugees with terror threat too and ignore the facts that 40% of refugees are not even Muslims and further 40% are of other Islam confession as ISIS scum.
The truth is lying between them as usual and in my personal opinion we have enough laws to protect Germany as most as possible, where only some must maybe improved or extended, but where the major problem is another as so often: Use the existing laws simply full!

But for you and all other US a simple information example about difficulties…
North African refugees in general, but particular those who become criminal will be senz back … but these people destroyed their documents which shows they are Moroccan, Algerian etc. Out of this the depending countries denies that the people are theirs and so refuse to take them back.
So our minister for interior safety traveled to them and improved situation at least slightly. Now, because the Berlin Terrorist was North African and there was this difficult situation above why he was not still back in his country … the politicians tell “cut any aids to them to force them more”. I agree with this … but then come the far lefties and tell that these are Nazi methods and they will destabilize these countries more and so cause more terrorists out of them.

Your SERIOUS solution proposal to solve?
(Please no “don’t let them in, because they are still here and did come often via France because North Africa was former colony of France … so how to solve the situation now is the point!)
