Is it time to admit that bringing Africans to America was a mistake?

Is it time to admit that bringing Africans to America was a mistake?

Is it time to think that maybe we should undo the mistake?

The descendents of African slaves often ask us to pay them reparations for the harm we did to their ancestors.

I say let's do just that.

    Reparations:

    1) A one-way ticket to the African nation of your choice, on the condition that you surrender your U.S. passport, renounce your U.S. citizenship, and promise never to return to the United States.

    2) A one time payment of $20,000 to get you started in your new life in Africa.

    Discuss.

I'd be fine giving them what they need of the American southeast since I know all of them would be terrified of returning to the ancestral homeland. Florida, Georgia and South Carolina sounds like adequate reparations. It's a lot of land with infrastructure.

I'd also support giving the Mexican Hispanics some of the southwest. We keep the northeast and northwest.
Everyone goes their separate ways in peace. Whites who want to live in their diversity can follow them through a one way door.

Considerable efforts had been made to repatriate freed slaves to Africa and Britain helped poor blacks in London resettle in modern-day Sierra Leone in the late 18th century. The American Colonization Society developed the first settlement for freed slaves in Africa, which would be known as Liberia, and Virginia set aside $30,000 annually for five years in 1850 to aid and support their emigration to Africa. As a result, the black population in the South was considerably reduced to the current level and blacks used to make up the majority in those slave states.

Africans were exported to the colonies like Europeans did , it wasn't you who brought them to the new world so not your right to "send them back" .

That is fine, the Northeast and the LibWest can go off on their own. That ought to save us a few trillion in bailout money.

12,000 isn't enough reparations for several generations of slavery, if African American's inherited the wealth of their ancestors work they would be millionaires like Mitt Romney.

Jay Z is worth $500 million.

Mitt Romney is worth $250 million.

I think blacks in America are starting to catch up in terms of net worth, but it will take time. That being said, there's enough rich blacks in the U.S to the point where we don't have to cast them as victims anymore.

No sir it is time to admit that the Welfare state has largely destroyed the instituion of the black family and that we need to do something drastically different in that regard. By the way the same mission moves closer and closer to accomplishment for caucasian families and for those caucasians having fallen into the clutches of the welfare state the statics differe only to the extent that caucasian families began crawling into that trap at a latter date.

How about sending back the Italians, Irish,Chinese and Jews for their murderous gang activities? No? Why? Oh, I know, because they aren't black.

As a double agent for the Obamanation he has to take the heat off of those that said the racial profiling and felony assault of an innocent man was not a civil rights violation and the perpetrator did nothing wrong.

Once Europeans had barged in it was a case of, "There goes the neighbourhood."

    - but it's nothing that mass deportation won't solve.

Not to mention that Houston Rockets Center Dwight Howard is 6'11" and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg is 5'5".

The Atlantic Slave Trade was definitely a major mistake, but it's not specifically because the people were African. It's because any forced mass migration of people to a new land for slavery purposes leaves a long legacy of disenfranchisement for that group that affects society for centuries later.

You'll notice that the countries that ended slavery earlier and had fewer slaves to begin with generally have fewer crime problems than us. Because of slavery, segregation, and the unintended consequences of the War on Poverty, we're left with a situation that can really only be undone by blacks themselves.

More government intervention just causes more problems oftentimes.

A shorter term solution is just finding somewhere else to live. Canada seems to have less racial tension in general than America, for example.

    The same goes for Australia.

The Atlantic Slave trade began to provide labor for the Sugar plantations in Brazil.. The economic boom was in sugar and rum.

Of course, but all that focus on economic gains ignored the long term costs to society of oppressing a race of people and leaving future generations to deal with the crisis of conscience of deciding how to right past wrongs.

I understand that a large part of the problem was also that African rulers were more than happy to provide slaves to European traders (and Arab ones).

The Arabs had no industrial sized plantations producing cotton, sugar, guano, rice etc.

True, although they participated in the trade before Europeans did.

True.. and so did the Vikings ... but you have to realize the Arab slave holdings were small because they couldn't afford to feed them.
