Many of them come here because our brand of socialized health care is superior to theirs!

Up to this time, it was Americans who crossed the border.

Not any more thanks to ACA!

THIS IS A VALIDATION OF ACA WHICH CONTINUES TO SAVE MONEY AND LIVES EVERY DAY!

All of your claims are false.

The number of uninsured has dropped substantially, dispite your false claims.

I personally have saved well over $2500 a year because of it.

Nor, have my wife or I changed any of our doctors.

Nonsense. You really need to wait till people who have lived history die before trying to rewrite it.

No, the Canadian system is not as good as the US system to date. The Canadian system has excellent metrics on performance, wait times, access to facilities and specialists (www.cihi.ca). The Canadian wait times would be totally unacceptable in the US, and they are unacceptable to Canadians, that's why they started their 10 Year Plan in 2004.

The UK system is a joke and nearing financial collapse because its not really "free".

I don't know anything significant about the Italian, French and Belgian systems so I'll pass on those for now.

obamacare is a fiasco, its a total mess. The web site still doesn't work properly. The govt is still playing games trying to buy time, they are delaying the employer mandate, delaying the "grandfather" requirements so people can keep their old plans (if they are still available), and "enrolling" people who did not actually enroll so they can artificially inflate the numbers. It would be a joke if it was not so serious.

6 million U.S. citizens travel to other countries for surgical procedures every years. source Run the numbers and this means that about .1% (one tenth of 1% of the population of Canada come to the U.S. for medical care. Meanwhile slightly less that 2% of U.S. citizens go to foreign countries for care.

false. Cancer care is denied to thousands who cannot afford it or don't have insurance. Until the ACA, most cancer survivors could not even come close to affording insurance in the individual market. Emergency rooms do not offer chemo or radiation therapy to cancer patients who are unable to pay. This is especially true in those states that did not expand Medicaid. I've known quite a few Leukemia patients who could not come up with the money for a Bone Marrow Transplant and that being the only treatment for some kinds of the disease meant that they died as a result of not having access to necessary health care.

The real question is why are Canadians AND Americans heading to Thailand, Panama and South Korea for health care? This has been happening longer than Obamacare has been around - so what's up.

It would be interesting to know how many of the Canadians were heading out of Canada for elective surgery (plastic parts, so to speak).

    Thank you.

That seems to be a more accurate depiction of what we deal with here in Canada than what I usually read.

My OH has been two years in now trying to get something done for his knee - cartilage chips. The MRI, finally, is in April. Surgery will be booked afterward - probably three to four months. In his twenties we were three years waiting to get a shoulder repair for him. I have been without a family doctor for over a decade (since ours died) as we have a shortage. That means I just don't go.

Speaking for myself, my plan last year had a $12,700 deductible. It didn't cover anything unless I got hit by a train and happened to live.

What did it cost? I paid $6800 in taxes and never got to see a doctor as that is such a chore one leaves it unless/until they are almost dead.

Excess life insurance is the key. This way when the government run health care system does a guy in, his widow had a few million to see the world with the pool boy to console her.

It costs $950 a month, $11,400 a year. That $11,400 doesn't count to the $12,700 deductable so as a responsible father I have to be ready to pony up $24,000. Every year. That doesn't make any financial sense so I took advantage of the loopholes. We've dropped Obamacareless plans and are dependent upon grassroots doctors who also opposed government mandates.

I hope Canadians can find similar alternatives to oppressive government programs.

This year I dropped out of Obamacare and put that $950 a month in a savings account. I feel much much better about that.

Seeing as the US has 850,000-1.2million Americans seeking HC outside the country each year. . .I'd say no.

How many Yanks left the Sacred Heartland for medical tourism in Mexico, Malaysia, Thailand, India etc? I've been going to facilities in Malaysia and Thailand for years and the hospitals and clinics there are full of Americans who are getting medical care at a fraction of the American cost , even after factoring in travel expenses. All the other systems that have been proven more efficient, effective and cheaper also have the private option open to anyone who wants to exercise it. If a rich Canuckian wishes to cross the border for some operation then he/she is free to do it. If the Yank system were so wonderful then other countries would be using it instead of just the opposite.

Ain't that a shame though? You are told you have 'free' healthcare then you get the bills for what isn't covered and you go bk. That is unless you die waiting to be treated.

Still dancing I see. I notice that instead of refuting the facts I put up, you opted to go the snark route. Snark is a sign of a petulant child. So how much 'age' have you acquired?
