I got this in my E-mail today. Seems like we are do to pay out millions to hush this up till after the election.

At White House Request, Lockheed Martin Drops Plan to Issue Layoff Notices

Defense contractor Lockheed Martin heeded a request from the White House today — one with political overtones — and announced it will not issue layoff notices to thousands of employees just days before the November presidential election.

    http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politic...ed-martin-drops-plan-to-issue-layoff-notices/

The President is trying to hold off any announcement until after the election.
This will make a significant increase to the questionable 7.8 % Unemployment
    number.

Lockheed is going to lay off 123,000 defense workers due to Obama's downsizing
of the military. This hit the Drudge report yesterday. This is true!

The law requires Lockheed to give 60-day notice to all to-be-fired employees
within 60 days. That drop dead date would be November 1st. Since this would be
devastating for his reelection, Obama has promised that our government would
cover all Lockheed severance packages to fired employees if Lockheed would not
release the names and locations of those losing their jobs until after the
    election!
Do you have any idea how many millions that will cost the taxpayer?
    Thank you Obama!!

No problem, we'll just print millions of more money to pay for the coverup.

It's not a guarantee they will...it all depends on how the sequestration process between LM and Congress goes...

Most corrupt Administration ever. And, of course, the mainstream media will not cover this story.

Never said they weren't...just stating that those jobs are not a guaranteed loss right now. Hopefully Congress will do the right thing...

You're right. We should continue paying them even if they aren't needed. Defense contractors deserve their socialized welfare spending, right?

Sounds like a good corporatist, distributing corporate welfare to his masters. Those jobs are on there way to Mexico as we speak. Gotta love the corporate choke hold on this nations economic throat.

So let me get this strait. Republicans want to reduce government spending. But if jobs funded by government spending are lost, that is bad? Hey republicans, If you cut the size of government and you reduce spending, that will eliminate jobs.

It's pretty sleazy and obviously politically motivated to wait until after the election to let them know.

I really don't have a problem with the layoffs though, cuts need to be made and the military is an area where those cuts can happen.

    Seriously?

The Obama administration is not only attempting to weasle around the WARN Act for political gain, they're offering taxpayer backed bribes to contractors for keeping the layoffs on the down low until after the election.

    and you see no issue?

    FFS.

No problem with the White House blackmailing the company in order to avoid making this announcement before the election?

Of course not. It benefits your guy.

Oh sure I see the problem with the waiting until after the election. Total dick move. That's evident. I was responding to those who thought this was not a good idea, tho.

Blackmailing is wrong. Blackmailing is stupid when there is no need. Why they went to the trouble when its perfectly okay to lay these guys off is questionable.

Yes of course its corruption, its poliltical, its a bribe.

What utter nonsense. Eveyone knew that this was an issue because of the looming sequestration. Obama has already flattly stated that if hes president there won't be a sequestration and I'm sure that Romney feels the same way. So he says don't be premature and issue notices, you're going to need those workers and because you happen to be a defence contractor and we happen to be fighting a war (remember that) wait. "I'll cover any fines/etc from breaching a regulation of the WARN act."

Never knew that sensible mature approach to problem solving is called corruption by the right.

Or it could be political blackmail and Lockheed, really has no intention of cutting that many jobs in the first place. It's all smoke and mirrors any way.

Because Romney could have used it to his advantage and pandered to those workers by promising to protect their jobs.

Lockheed was once a leading producer of great commercial aircraft...The L-1011 Tristar was one of the most dependable and comfortable long range airliners ever produced...I think Lockheed made a big mistake by getting out of that end of the industry and gearing up totally for war machines. If laying off 123,000 people means that we are going to slow down the idiotic and wasteful production of war toys, then I'm all for it. There is no bigger source of government waste and corruption than what is being done by corporate war profiteers and their whores in the US Congress....Cheers

Thanks for the imput on this. I guess we'll just have to see who is lying, or if all the info hadn't been brought out, or not available at the time. Should have know it couldn't be cut and dried one way or the other.

Please enough with the chain emails.

    Snopes: http://www.snopes.com/politics/business/lockheed.asp
2/3s of the way down; Lockheed never announced 123,000 layoffs, that would be its entire workforce.

    Please do your homework.
