hi i voted for obama but my wife and i are seriously wondering how we could do it again. my wife hates politics and news in general. her philosophy is this: "if something is important enough for me to know then it will interrupt my regularly scheduled programming" :p

(funny thing is if you go to street view on google maps there is an obama sign in my front yard but i can't post the link here because i don't want everyone to know where i live)

anyway i'm curious if there are others who voted for obama and are switching sides this time around?

Hello and welcome, I believe there are a few more conservatives here than liberals. Not sure who voted for Obama or whether they have changed their minds though!

thanks. i consider myself pretty conservative and voted for obama last time around because i was sucked in by the message of hope and change. he fooled me once but not a second time...

i actually got an email from his campaign on saturday with the subject heading, "Before I go on stage..." can you believe it? he isn't even trying to hide the fact that it is all a big act!

I think we have more no affiliations/libertarian than anything else, I am sure there are many who will vote different this time , that goes both ways

Mostly conservative/libertarian, but a lot of very vocal and opinionated liberals in the mix. I like the format, (whoever created this forum is very gifted), and I wouldn't want to be on some forum where everyone agreed with me. Many days I do not post at all because rhetoric spewing is the only thing going; if you have the patience to put up with that you will find many open minded conservatives and liberals here. But if you are looking for a forum where everyone will agree with you and play nice you are in the wrong place. In any case welcome, its good to have new members.

I voted for Obama and most likely will again.

If I had to estimate, I'd say there are likely more conservatives and libertarians(I group these two together only because they are more similar to each other than conservatives and modern liberals, or libertarians and modern liberals) than any other political groups. There are some very intelligent posters representing a wide range of views from all quadrants of the political grid, and you'll probably be extremely surprised to find the variety in opinion and viewpoint on here.

That said, you'll also encounter the typical bias towards or against things that you'll find in any demographic of people. There are some here that wouldn't like a conservative or liberal idea if Christ(or Carl Sagan for the atheists) himself whispered it in their ear. One thing to remember and you'll be fine. The power of insistence on one's own correctness of ideas is not proof that those ideas are correct. Basically, you will find people here will speak with certainty about their views and you shouldn't take that to mean that what their views express are certainties.

I didn't vote for Obama last election. Me and several others, after drinking adult beverages, decided to write me in.

I continue to be impressed with Obama's handling of a no win task.

Romney is going to have to acheive a level of specificity regarding what he'll do about the economy, and I'm not going to vote for him if all he says is "failedpoliciesfreedomsandliberties"

Obama stated what he would support, presidents can be for this that and the other thing, congress still has to pass the bills before he can sign them, sadly dems did not have enough control to get all the change they wanted, but we can hope 2012 will change that

Sadly the Democrats wasted their time when they had control of Congress by trying to circumvent the US Constitution with "Obamacare" which has a better than even chance of being struck down by the Supreme Court next month when they issue their decision. In the meantime this issue has been the major dividing block between Republicans and Democrats.

He could have balanced the US Budget but instead has spent trillions of dollars that have accomplished nothing and now even the Republicans can't balance the US budget anymore because they'd have to cut their sacred "Defense Industry Welfare" cow to accomplish it.

Obama didn't do some of the things he promised when he had the opportunity. For example, upon taking office he could have immediately transported the GITMO prisoners to a federal prison in the US and closed GITMO. As the President he had this authority and it wasn't until he allowed Congress to get involved that Congress blocked him from doing this. Obama could have gotten us out of Afghanistan by now but then he never promised to do that anyway. He did eventually get us out of Iraq but that was more a case of Iraq throwing us out so that Maliki can set-up his own dictatorship to replace Saddam.

BTW never confuse a Libertarian with either a "social conservative" which is what controls the Republican Party today or a "socialist liberal" which has control of the Democratic Party today. We are neither. We are far more conservative related to government than Republicans and are far more liberal when it comes to the civil Rights of the People than the Democrats.

Thanks - and I know the difference. I actually caucused for Ron Paul at my precinct this year and my district at the Spokane county convention (made it to state convention in Tacoma as an alternate but not sure I can make it due to cost)

It would be awesome if by some miracle Ron Paul makes a comeback. Too bad the other candidates (besides Romney) kept dragging their campaigns into massive debt instead of dropping out sooner.

I will vote for the candidate that isn't Obama this time around. Obama pretends to be for the middle class but I can't think of a single thing he has done to help my situation. I couldn't even sell my house I've lived in and payed mortgage for 7 years and break even today!

I hate that nobody can find work and Obama is trying to play class warfare blaming anyone but his own :chainsaw: self.

politics is a funny thing , seems like it never works out like it's supposed to , does it ? I've been a registered Democrat all my life , my people were all tobaco farmers or mill workers , all honest folks . . all Democrats , , , . now , the next county over , they farm and work in mills as well , good solid people , but staunch Republicans . . . go figger , that's politics for ya.

I voted for Obama last time because I honestly felt he was the right man for the time , , for a communitty organizer he's done ok , , , his magic fix stimulus took time to take effect , it's just now beginning to work.

Will I vote for Obama again ? You know , for a comunitty organizer, he ain't done half bad. Yeah , he's stepped on his crank a few times , he probably will again .

I think once the political rhetoric is scraped away , Obamas done about as good as anyone else could have done , given the same set of (*)(*)(*)(*)ty circumstances.

There are?!?!? :omg: Where in the world are they hiding at? Of all the very intelligent posters I have come across at this forum, almost all of them are either banned or no longer post regularly at this forum. If there are very intelligent posters at the forum now, they are doing a very good job disguising themselves as idiots!!

For those that oppose Obama I can only say that Mitt Romney isn't a choice either. He's openly waging a war on gays/lesbians and women Rights with his advocacy of an authoritarian social conservative government. I highly recommend supporting the Johnson/Gray presidential ticket of the Libertarian Party.

Housing prices are a problem because they were over-inflated prior to 2007 and about 3 million excess homes were built between 2000 and 2007. Until most of those homes are sold the prices are going to remain depressed and it will probably be 2020 before prices return to 2007 levels based upon market pressure. The government can't really do anything about this because the government (Federal Reserve) was basically responsible for creating the housing bubble. A free market is the only way to ensure against over-inflated pricing and the resulting collapse which is a result of government interventionism in the economy. We need to get rid of the Federal Reserve and get our government out of the economy.

With something like 40,000 members it would be hard to tell but obviously most of those members don't post. We can only go by what we see and generally we tend to recognize the "opposition" more than we do those we agree with politically. Additionally we seem to have more of the opposition to the "existing" adminstration posting than those that agree with it. In 2008 when I joined far more "liberals" were posting because they objected to the Bush adminstration. Today more "conservatives" are posting because they object to the Obama adminstration.

What I find interesting is that we have about an equal mix when it comes to intelligence with about 1/2 of the members having a normal IQ or greater and 1/2 of the members having a normal IQ or lower. We can really tell those that have a lower IQ because they lack the ability to actually understand and present valid political opinion but they do get a lot of responses based upon stupid topics. We have our share of stupid racists as well that don't have the intelligence of a tin can and we often see that in some of the threads they create.

What the hey, there's a place for everyone here as long as they abide by the Forum Rules and Mission Statement. Left, right, libertarian, communist, capitalist, racist and civil rights advocates. Play by the rules and enjoy the discussions.

Welcome. I'm a reformed liberal myself. Voting for Obama was the biggest mistake of my life. The good news is that it forced me to really question my political beliefs and I realized just how wrong I was on many of them.

I have grown a lot since 2008. I wish I can undo my mistake, but I can't. Best thing is to move on and make better choices in the future.

Why do I find that unbelieveable?

I'm not calling you a liar...but most peope go from far right, to moderate or independent, or far left, to moderate or independent....not full on swing from left to right.

I must admit, I was a rightie from 1968-1990, then I moved leftwards, and since 2004, have been swinging back towards a moderate....

Forgive me....we have a lot of rightie posters on this site who claim to be "reformed" lefties, and I think most of them are just saying that, and have likely been righties the whole time

yeah , he could have talked all day and not said that . . but he does have a point .

Although I agree with most of your post , there are a few things I would ask you about .

The housing market will continue to be unstable , I agree .

Booting the Federal Reserve would be akin to the UHC effort , it's a national debate that would take many years to work out , if it ever was. I agree that it's a needed task , but perhaps now is not the time . As to when the best time would be , I don't know , I guess when all the other problems are dealt with .

In my opinion , the reason the US finds itself with no middle class is because the gov't turned it's back on our own economy. A Global Market , people say ...US gonna have to compete , yes , I've heard it before , it rang as an emptily hollow argument then as it does now . the US worker cannot survive on the China paid wage of $2.50 a DAY . .

Our Fed Gov't been watching jobs leave the US for foreign mfg. markets for over 40 years now , , did anyone really expect that it would result in a better way of life for our own citizens ? . . that is who our gov't leaders were elected to represent , isn't it ? .

The forum's active membership is skewed right. It's hard to get a good grip on how far just because we tend to gravitate towards threads that interest us and run into the same posters...

While we have a large contingent of libertarians, we also have a fairly large contingent of extreme right-wingers who call themselves libertarians while supporting gay marriage bans, the War on Drugs, a large "defense" budget etc.

    I'm proudly liberal and a card-carrying progressive.

Do you reckon if it were a Republican government right now, there would be a whole lot less conservative members posting and a whole lot more progressive members posting? I've noticed that trend as well. I posted on other forums in 2008-2009 and it seemed like just about everybody was raving about Obama. They were also ranting about the Bush administration. It seems like whoever is in power, the opposition comes to the internet.
