I have a Mazdaspeed6 GT as a semi daily driver. AWD, turbo, 274 hp. Quick little sedan. A truck for chauffeuring the dog around. And this for really nice days or some passes at the track.

The diesel Jetta is probably a better value unless parking is an issue. Still, it is a good car in it's niche. That's not my favorite model Camaro, sitting in the front passenger seat is uncomfortably for a tall dude and the reliability factor is nil. The new model address' all of this plus it's monumentally better looking. The Fiat 500 (Abarth) has by far the best commercial on TV and will give that Camaro a run up to 90mph and is better in the curves, but it's milage sucks for a small car so it's usefulness in minimal unless Italian models are available. My favorite muscle car? A 2003 Ford Crown Vic with a police interceptor, not the fastest but by far the most comfortable with 22 mpg.

Wrong about the reliabily even with an extra 100+ hp. The new Camaro's are not my favorite design but I would take the LS3 out of one to put in mine.

I've got a backyard of Camaro parts (mostly engine and accessory)-no offense but every Camaro from 1984 to 2008 sucked. My son works on cars and Camaros top the list of malfunction junction. In fairness, the 6 cyl are the worst. Fortunately the new Camaros address all the issues along with handling and muscle, GM made a major turnaround thanks to Obama's help. Still, I prefer Ford's, they didn't need anyone's help and should be rewarded for putting out reliable well made cars, my next car will be a Lincoln MKZ-probably a hybrid.

Camaro production ceased in 2002 and restarted in 2010. I bought a Ford once in 1970, never had another since.

As bad as the interior quality on the 4th generation Camaro was (and it was dismal), the car itself is pretty reliable. My wife's best friend has 110,000 miles on her 2001 Z28 SS and still has the original clutch, water pump, alternator, A/C system, rear brakes, front rotors, starter, and all hoses. Second serpentine belt, second set of front brake pads..other than having three windshields taken out by flying gravel, no real problems. This spring, it will get rear pads, front pads & rotors, new radiator & heater hoses, a coolant flush, and fresh transmission & axle oil.

She gets about 28MPG on a long trip with it, averages about 23-25. (Love that double-overdrive 6-speed!)

Almost all of that 80's-90's GM stuff was crap. I had an '82 Malibu that was the biggest pile of junk I ever owned! Constant visits to the dealer to have the ECM computer replaced, constant problems with the electronic ignition. Terrible paint job - peeled and faded in two years after purchase.

Mom and Dad bought a '88 Corsica - same (*)(*)(*)(*)-poor GM quality. The paint on it also looked horrible after two years, so I called the GM zone office and listed them ever GM car I could remember my parents owning - Chevy II, Corvair, Buick Sportwagon, about two dozen different cars and trucks. I told them that after 30+ years of loyalty to GM, that I thought GM owed them a paint job. They agreed, and Mom got a free paint job on her Corsica.

Mom and Dad stayed loyal to GM until they passed away, but I traded in the Malibu for a '92 Corolla, and haven't gone back to GM since.

During the 80's & 90's GM relied upon customer loyalty for sales in lieu of quality and innovation.

My 4th gen is just a toy for me to tinker with and upgrade. ten years old and 28k miles on it and all the original parts that I upgraded stored above the garage.

I had a 2005 Mustang GT for a couple years, and I admit it was because I loved the retro look. Loved it and had no problems at all with it. Traded it in for a 2009 Charger with AWD because the Mustang just could not get around in Colorado weather. The Charger isn't as quick, but I've never gotten stuck either.

I wrote of this earlier.I had the 2nd year production run of the
returning Z-28 back in 1977.I believe they came back after a
hiatus in 1976.The first production run was 1977.I got a 1978.
I had a Firebird since '76.I kinda abused it.
That Z-28 was a looker and handled OK.It was a performer
in 3rd gear but that was about it.I knew what a real Z-28 could
do { 302 ci. Aluminum } because I roomed with a guy who became
a buddy in college who had an original '69 Z-28.
I used to use his car every so often in college.Basicaaly for dates.
It was awesome. He said it had a special rear end that was Drag
ready. He wasn't Kiddin. It could wind out to 90 mph. in First gear.
My older brother had a stock 396 Chevelle Super Sport that was
good for 60 in 1st gear.
I was around when all those muscle cars were King.
The Barracuda {6-pack} and the Chevy Super Sport.
The dreaded GTO and Dodge Charger.

I'm in the market to replace a car I said I never would.Still
might not.My Evo.Far and away the most awesome reliable and
drop dead performer of any Car I've ever driven.
Please someone talk me out of my love affair with this Gem of
a street car.It may not look like much, but once behind the wheel
it has a personality like no other.Car that is.

    More BS from the Fool...
The first Z28 with an aluminum engine was the 1998 Z28. (The 302 was iron.)
A "drag ready" 1969 Z would have 4.56 or 4.88 gears and would barely top 90 in FOURTH gear, let alone first!
No "stock SS 396 Chevelle" would go 60MPH in first gear.

    Foolardi is trolling again.

And the proof is in the puddin'.GM made such crappy cars that even their
flagship model,The Cadillc was crap.My Mom had a mid-80's Eldorado.
It was a lemmon. The engine was buzzy, had no power and sounded
like it had the flu.Even the Bose stereo went out.The wiring was
faulty. The interior had no room.Imagine that, they built a Cadillac and
My EVO has far more head room. Now,just to make sure this isn't
picking on Cadillac,my Father had a late model Fleetwood Brougham
that was really a solid winner. It was standard Cadillac production at it's
finest.Of course that's their most expensive model.

a 'course it's got a hemi! I have no complaints about the Charger or its engine, but I also know without a doubt the 2005 Mustang I had would eat it for lunch.

5.7. Can't get the big one AND AWD at the same time. It is plenty of engine, though. Step into the gas a bit and it definitely lets you know it is there. Not very good on gas though.

I'm probably wrong about the block because the crank was
definately forged steel. But not all DZ-302 were alike. The 4 speed
was available with Muncie close ratio or a wide ratio and also a
heavy-duty close ratio {M22} which I helped my high school buddy install
in his '66 vette. That M22 was like no other tranny. You could shift it
w/o engaging the clutch if done at the right rpm which is an advantage
for constant-mesh design. There was also optional rear end available.
The top end was unmistakably aluminum { Intake manifold }.
Even though No torque monster by any stretch the short-stroke
engine was a revver. The 302 came into to being because of the Trans-Am
    racing circuit limit of no bigger than 5 litre { had to look that up }
V-8 engines. The closest thing Chevy had was it's sweet corvette
    engine {327 c.i.}

The 302 was a 327 motor destroked to 302 by using the 283 motor crankshaft.

Sounds about right.I mean, fabricating an entire new block for
production ain't no piece of cake.4 bolt Iron block.
I keep thinkin it was an aluminum block. Not much difference from
    a 350 c.i. to a 327 c.i.I think many car enthusthists insist they're
    the same block.

there was one year you could...if paid for the entire SRT package and find it.

that being said. you can legally upgrade it if you should happen to have to replace the engine. it's unlawful to "decertify" a car by installing an engine that wasn't certified in it.

Just who certified you to say such stuff.
You could be eligible to be declared Certifiable if you keep this up.
