Sounds like something Sean or Rush would say, tho' I haven't personally heard them say this one.

There is 142.5 billion gallons of gas sold in the US. That about equates to the profit the big oil companies make in profit. So about $1/gal goes to them in profit.

The federal tax is $.18/gal. So I'd say he heard wrong. Some states add taxes as well, though.

The government makes 40+ cents per gallon profit and they do
    Nothing but shuffle paper.

    Still waiting for the quotes.

Why is this such a figg'n problem. A thread requires a link. Post some (*)(*)(*)(*) quotes.

If you can't, then I guess the whole premise is BS.

Why.There is now More fiction passing as fact due to the
creation of sites like FactCheck.org who are basically state-run
    Politburo operatives.

Thank you! Finally. You concede that Obama never said what the OP accuses him of.

Well, I guess that about does it.

I don't understand how the thread was allowed to continue. It didn't meet the requirements. I sent a notification to the mods. I'll bet I wasn't the only one.

Think this out, world supply increases, as with China and India, therefore, production increases, now to answer your question of where is Obamas lack of leadership, is he doesnt allow the pace of production to keep pace with the needs in this country. Listen if you have a business that traditionally supplies to one market, and then branches out to another, you still need to increase production to match your older market. Obama has inhibited this by his restrictive policies, and his ham handed foreign polices.

You both make interesting claims and unlike most people on forums, I don't claim to be yet another "internet expert".

So now I'm curious. Can either of you actually back up your claim?

Congratulations! You are the first one to turn this into something about racism. Good for you.

Guess what everybody! Complain about gas prices under Obama and you are now just a racist. Makes sense.

How did production decreasing every year under Bush keep pas with the needs of this country?

I don't see Obama restricting production much at all. It is going up for the first time in decades.

    Sure:

I couldn't find the source for the 142.5 billion gallons figure I posted (may be older data), but this is close

    Gasoline used per year: 378 million gallons/day * 365 = 136.9 billion per year.

    http://www.eia.gov/energyexplained/index.cfm?page=oil_home#tab2

    Big Five Oil company profits:

    Year - profit in billions.
    2007 130.95
    2008 136.44
    2009 64.77
    2010 76.24

    http://www.americanprogress.org/issues/2011/01/oil_lust.html

Thus, profit per gallon is about $1/gal in 2007 and 2008 just counting the Big 5 alone. That does not include the profits of all the other businesses in the production line.

Their profits were down in 2008 and 2009, and the profit per gallon is more in the $.50 range those years. With gas prices going up, 2011 should be another banner year for them.

I never quite understood why their profits go so much higher when crude goes up. You would think that with higher supply costs, they would cut their margins, right? Instead they make more than ever when we are feeling the greatest pain at the pump.

To me, it sounds like collusion where they fixe prices based on a percentage rather than true competition.

I wouldn't hold your breath for Foolardi. He is not one for supporting his claims in my experience. But maybe he will surprise me.

Well it's nice to see someone who doesn't just spew bullshet they pull out of their buttocks! Thank you.

And now that you mention it, I seem to recall other posts of foolardi now. Seems he spends lots of time attacking posters instead of issues and also just plain making stuff up. One penny a gallaon or whatever ridiculous number he posted seemed pretty out there.

As far as pricing, Big Oil has been testing and re-testing Market Tolerance Levels for a loooong time. Supply, demand, politics etc... is all bullshet. They test how high they can take prices before the market or the government will step in and say "Okay we're going to do something." Then they back it down and wait a while before raising again.

There is just a little more that the radical leftist american progress propagandists left out.

Who are the owners of these oil companies that are raping the US consumer??

    1.5% corporate MANAGEMENT!!!
    5.0% institutional investors
    14.0% individual IRA's
    23.0% individual investors
    27.0% PENSION FUNDS
29.5% Mutual Funds and other firms

Congressional Research Service found that in 2007 the large oil companies made 7.6% profit on revenues compared to 5.8% for all US manufacturing industries. The CRS also found that the 5.8% was really 9,2% when the massive losses by the auto mfg. industry were taken out of the average. So the oil companies made a lower than average profit margin. Their profits are in the billions because their volume is so large, NOT because they are making enormous profit margins.

CRS Oil Industry Profit Review 2007
    report to Congress.
NOT a leftist lying propaganda machine.

Uh no, its because I work two jobs and I am a full time college student. So sometimes I don't get on here for days. One time i went almost two months. Hard worker and all... probably something you wouldn't understand. Who knows. If you just absolutely refuse to believe that obama ever said anything about the bush administration (which is just stupid) i would be happy to see what I can dig up. Just give me a moment to get caught up on my posts.

Unemployment at 8.3% after the obama administration promised under 8% with the wasted trillion dollar stimulus. Which failed and was over 2 years ago.
And unemployment is at 8.3% because the BLS took 1,200,000 people OUT of the workforce in one month [a record] that is a full 1% of the workforce.
And NO president has been reelected with an unemployment rate above 7.2%

Deficits, $1,293.5 TRILLION,,,,,$1,298. TRILLION,,,,,,$1,299.6 TRILLION!!! ALL with a friendly Congress. NO, that is NO, as in NONE EVER Republican Congress EVER had a deficit even HALF as much as any one of obama's. IN FACT, the highest Republican Congress deficit was exactly 31.9% of obama's LOWEST deficit.

National debt now at $15.4 TRILLION. He started at $10.6 TRILLION. That is increasing the debt 267% faster than the president with the SECOND highest, fastest, debt increase.

    REAL unemployment at about 25%

Participation in the workforce down to 63%, a modern record.

Happy now? Not a word about gas prices, religion or abortion.

    Total employed 01/2012, 130,263,000

I said about 25%. The BLS says 46% of the labor force isn't working.
