Republican have been working this voter fraud meme ever since the 2000 election, when their own shennanigans shown a spotlight on a cottage industry affiliated with the party bent on voter supression.

That was the year that Florida Secretary of State (and Chairwoman of the Florida Bush campaign) hired a GOP consulting firm to run a voter caging operation that disenfranchised several thousand people, mostly Democrats, and mostly wrong.

In 2004, they got caught again in Ohio, and they got caught trying to supress votes in Democratic districts by placing one machine in a precinct and forcing people to wait in long lines (they did this one again in Florida in 2012).

In 2006, the GOP ran a multi state program to set up caging operations in multiple states. It was run from the White House by Karl Rove and executed by teh Justice Department under Alberto Gonzales, who installed Rove picked political activists in states for the purpose of both launching caging operations and for filing frivilous lawsuits claiming voter fraud against organizations affiliated with Democrats, notably ACORN. Gozazles was forced to resign after he purjured himself and several of the attorneys made plea deals. Frivilous charges were filed against Acorn in, Nevada, Florida and Missouri. All were summarily dismissed. The voter fraud campaign was timed so that the charges could be filed days before the elections. Right wing media was primed with talking points and the ACORN code word was blasted all over the airwaves. As noted, after the election, charges against ACORN were either dropped or dismissed. but the code word remained etched in the right wing mindset.
In 2008, the GOP was caught in the midst of preparing a caging operation in Michigan, and there were allegations about Ohio.

In 2012, the GOP changed tactics and decided to concentrate on supressing the vote by passing ID laws that required voters to acquire non standard ID's specifically for the purpose. Efforts along these lines were attempted in 22 states, and some GOP legislators were quite candid about the real purpose.
Meanwhile the right wing noise machine yelled about vote fraud, but could never document anything beyond a few isolated incidents.

Ironically, a GOP consultant was caught doing exactly what the noise machine had accused ACORN of doing in Virginia. Since the same firm was being paid by the national GOP to run registration efforts in several states, it's possible that what they got caught doing in Va could have gone on elsewhere too.

We'll see what becomes of this woman. But it's clear that it's an isolated incident. But the GOP record makes it imperative that they gin it up as much as possible.

BTW, if the GOP was really interested in protecting the right to vote via ID's, they'd be calling for a standardized national ID...............crickets............

    This is exactly true. ^

This is a post by a extreme lefty on craigslist in response to the democrat voter fraud:

    http://phoenix.craigslist.org/cph/pol/3677981116.html

See how instead of this person on craigslist saying, you're right there is something wrong with some democrats and the whole two party system. Nope, he/she would rather try and shift blame to republicans and refuse to acknowledge their choice of party includes dishonest members.

These kinds of people are why the usa is failing. Voter fraud happens on both sides but the democrats are more brazen about buying votes through welfare.

I guess when you couldn't refute the facts, you had to go out and find something else to point to!

Funny how you posted something that is true about your own party (party, not individuals), you cite it as an example of someone excusing an obviously isolated incident involving one woman.

The two citations your Craig's list link referred to were part of an ongoing effort by a company hired by the GOP. This was done on a national level. And it was only exposed when a couple of their operatives were caught in different states.

The GOP promptly fired the company in question. But the individual state GOP organizations promptly rehired them.

Obama won Ohio with about 160,000 votes

Take 30,000 people voting 6 times, and you have Romney winning.

With how many people were hyped about Romney, i wouldn't be surprised if the whole thing was screwed up.

This isn't an isolated incident. Go back to post 15 that I put up and click on those two web sites and you'll see scores of names of people caught cheating voting. Many of them Democratic officials. There are several pages of them.

DEMOCRATS Arrested and/or Convicted of Voter Fraud

    Posted on April 3, 2012

    Update: April 3, 2012

Four MORE Democrats arrested for Voter Fraud in Indiana

Prosecutors in South Bend, Ind., filed charges Monday against four St. Joseph County Democratic officials and deputies as part of a multiple-felony case involving the alleged forging of Democratic presidential primary petitions in the 2008 election, which put then-candidates Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton on the Indiana ballot.

    Update: February 3, 2012

A local Florida station invented an unprecedented way to check for voter fraud: jury excusal forms. NBC2 compiled a list of jury excusals based on not being a citizen of the United States and compared it to a list of registered voters in two counties. They discovered almost 100 illegally registered voters, many of whom had voted multiple times. “I vote every year,” one woman told NBC2, despite the fact that she is not a US citizen. The woman had told the court that she couldn’t serve on a jury because she wasn’t a US citizen, but she doesn’t seem to have a problem voting like one.

Based on the NBC2 investigation, local election offices say they’ll now request a copy of every jury excusal form where residents say they can’t serve because they’re not a citizen.

    UPDATE January 9, 2012

8 Arrested for Absentee Voter Fraud in Madison County, Florida

Democrats ~ Jada Woods Williams and Abra Hill Johnson

I am not sure how I missed this one, but here is one to add to the growing list of individuals arrested for actual voter fraud- meaning they voted more than once in an given election.

The NAACP is up in arms over the arrests saying the FBI is some how suppressing minority voters by arresting and charging minorities for actually illegally voting.

November 1, 2011 – 8 were arrested for absentee voter fraud in Madison County, Florida.

The case began when the Florida’s Division of Elections notified FDLE ad FBI that “an extraordinarily disproportionate amount of absentee votes,” had been cast in the District 1 school board race. The eight suspects were arrested on November 1, 2011.

Before I post the names of those arrested for voting more than once in an election, they are ALL registered Democrats:

■Tina Johnson was arrested on 10 counts of fraud in connection with casting a vote, and two counts of absentee ballots and voting violations.
■Johnson Jr. was charged with 11 counts of fraud in connection with casting votes, as well as corruptly influencing voting, and perjury by false written declaration.
■Williams was charged with 17 counts of neglect of duty and corrupt practices for allowing the distribution of these absentee ballots.

The following Madison residents were each charged with one count of proving a false report to law enforcement as well addition charges as listed:
    • Shalonda Michaelle Brinson, 36, nine counts of fraud in connection with casting a vote
    • Judy Ann Crumitie, 51, four counts of fraud in connection with casting a vote
    • Laverne V. Haynes, 57, two counts of fraud in connection with casting a vote, two counts of perjury by false written declaration
    • Ora Bell Rivers, 41, seven counts of fraud in connection with casting a vote, three counts of perjury by false written declaration
    • Raven Simona Williams, 20, two counts of fraud in connection with casting a vote, two counts of perjury by false written declaration

    Update: December 2011

7 Democrats Arrested in New York for actual Voter Fraud via Absentee Ballots

Democrats arrested, charged and 4 plead guilty to actual voter fraud in New York via absentee ballots!

Democrat Anthony DeFiglio, right, pled guilty to falsifying business records for his role in a ballot fraud case in Rensselaer County Court on Tuesday Dec. 20, 2011 in Troy, N.Y. His lawyer John Turi is at left.

4 Plead Guilty while the other 3 opt for a trial. The group forged signatures on applications for absentee ballots and on the ballots themselves in a 2009 primary of the Working Families Party, which was affiliated with now-defunct community group ACORN.

Voters whose signatures were forged expressed outrage to Fox. “I feel extremely violated,” said Brian Suozzo.

In November 2009, Democratic operative Anthony DeFiglio told New York State police investigators that faking absentee ballots was a commonplace and accepted practice in political circles, all intended to swing an election.

Democrat Clement Campana, President of the Troy City Council, right, is arraigned for his role in a ballot fraud case in Rensselaer County Court while sitting with his lawyer E. Stewart Jones, Jr., left, on Tuesday Dec. 20, 2011 in Troy, N.Y.. (Philip Kamrass / Times Union )

**It should be noted that the story below has still yet, as of November 25, 2011 to be aired on NBC, MSNBC or CNN……**

To hear NBC, MSNBC and CNN put it, voter fraud is “basically unfounded” in today’s society. That those who scream voter fraud, those said people are merely looking to “discredit” Democrats, or they go so far as to call them “racists”. Remember, the whole purpose of the MEDIA is to keep the citizens informed and the politicians “honest”. Lying about the OBVIOUS is neither keeping the citizens informed nor keeping the politicians “honest”. Likewise, calling those racists whom provide factual evidence that voter fraud occurs a lot more than the media leads on, only proves why NBC, MSNBC and CNN’s ratings are in the tank.

Irony, by its very definition is that of the media “keeping politicians honest” by “reporting the truth” when said media calls those who do report the truth as being racists and liars.

    Update: November 2011

12 Democrats have been Charged in Georgia for Absentee Ballot Voter Fraud

Case in point: November 23, 2011 – 12 people have been charged in Georgia for voter fraud as they used absentee ballots to skew an in election in Georgia. The 12 people charged are ALL with the Democrat Party. The defendants include some workers in the voter registrar’s office and some school board members. They are Angela Bryant, April Proctor, Brenda Monds, Debra Denard, Lula Smart, Kechia Harrison, Robert Denard, Sandra Cody, Elizabeth Thomas, Linda Troutman, Latashia Head, and Nancy Denard.

The charges followed a bitter November 2010 school board election in Brooks County in which the final tally was changed by an unusually large wave of absentee ballots.

During the election, 1,060 absentee votes were cast out of the 1,403 ballots mailed out to people who requested them, according to a July 2010 report by WCTV.

That’s far higher than nearby Thomas County, which had 119 absentee votes cast out of 202 requests, and Lowndes County, which had 169 absentee votes cast out of 439 requests, said WCTV’s report.

We also need to look at the other actual voter fraud that yielded arrests, charges and convictions. Needless to say, ALL thus far have been via DEMOCRAT voters who voted MULTIPLE TIMES for Obama whereby even DNA evidence was acquired and used to convict on voter fraud so as to NOT allow the media to state that these charges and convictions were somehow “racist”.

NAACP Executive Sentence to 10 Years in Prison for Voting for Obama 10 Times in 2008

While NAACP President Benjamin Jealous lashed out at new state laws requiring photo ID for voting, an NAACP executive sits in prison, sentenced for carrying out a massive voter fraud scheme.

In April 2011, a Tunica County, Miss., jury convicted NAACP official Lessadolla Sowers on 10 counts of fraudulently casting absentee ballots.

Sowers received a five-year prison term for each of the 10 counts…..

“This crime cuts against the fabric of our free society,” Judge Webster said.

Sowers was found guilty of voting in the names of Carrie Collins, Walter Howard, Sheena Shelton, Alberta Pickett, Draper Cotton and Eddie Davis.

She was also convicted of voting in the names of four dead persons: James L. Young, Dora Price, Dorothy Harris, and David Ross.

In the trial, forensic scientist Bo Scales testified that Sowers’s DNA was found on the inner seals of five envelopes containing absentee ballots.

4 Wake County, North Carolina Democrats have Admitted to Voting for Obama TWICE Each in 2008

FOUR Wake County, North Carolina, Democrats have admitted to voter fraud charges, according to local news reports.

Kierra Fontae Leache, Shelia Romona Hodges and Brandon Earl Mclean each admitted to casting two ballots in recent elections. Local reports indicate all three voted for President Barack Obama twice in 2008.

According to ABC News Channel 11 in Raleigh-Durham, authorities have placed the three on $10,000 bonds.

    March 17, 2011:

LAKE COUNTY, Ill. – An illegal alien from the Philippines was arrested Thursday morning on a felony complaint charging her with 17 counts related to voter fraud in Lake County. The state charges resulted

Indiana Voter Fraud – Please note that we have TWO Separate voter fraud issues in this state to address: 1. Absentee Ballot Voter Fraud; 2. Obama’s Signature Fraud

MIKE MARSHALL AND SON CHRIS (ALSO INDICTED) IN DC ATTENDING OBAMA’S INAUGURATION, January 20, 2009

October 2011: A former state representative and prominent Democratic leader and political consultant from Jennings County[Indiana], Mike Marshall, has been indicted on multiples counts of vote fraud, forgery and perjury, along with Marshall’s son, Chris, and another local Democrat, John Cook. The Columbus Republic has the story on the grand jury indictments just returned against the men:

Three Jennings County residents face a combined 65 felony counts after being indicted by a grand jury on charges of vote fraud, forgery and perjury.

Mike Marshall, a Democrat and president of North Vernon’s Utilities Service Board, faces 12 Class D felony counts of forgery, 13 Class D felony counts of perjury and 20 Class D felony counts of vote fraud, according to paperwork filed with the Jennings County clerk’s office.

Marshall’s son Chris Marshall faces one count each of forgery and perjury and nine counts of vote fraud.

The case stems from an absentee ballot filed in last year’s election [2010].

Indiana Democratic Party Head Resigns as Fraud Probe Heats Up over Obama

    Fox News 10/2011

10/18/2011: Indiana Democratic Chairman Dan Parker on Monday evening confirmed the resignation of Butch Morgan, Democratic chairman for St. Joseph County and the Second Congressional District.

Fox News 12/12/11: The chairman of the St. Joseph County Democratic Party has resigned amid a scandal that reveals hundreds of signatures on petitions for Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton to appear on the state’s 2008 primary ballot were faked.

Dan Parker, who served for seven years, did not cite the scandal as a reason for his decision. But the uproar over possible fraud in a race for the White Househas already claimed the job of one county Democratic Chairman, who sources say was forced out because of the allegations.

The alleged forgeries have raised the question whether the Obama campaign actually filed the necessary number of signatures, 500 from the county, to get on the state’s primary ballot. The 534 signatures that were certified to place Obama’s name in contention, were never challenged. 704 signatures were certified for Clinton, according to state elections officials. An estimated 150 of the signatures on both petitions may be fakes, leaving open the possibility that, in at least President Obama’s case, the number of legal signatures that were required to get on the ballot was not reached.

Several voters told Fox News that they never signed nor gave their names that appeared on the Obama petitions.

“It’s scary,” Charity Rorie said, adding that her signature and name, and those of her husband, were faked.

    “It’s shocking … it’s definitely is illegal.”

    VA

    2005

In 2005, the Virginia State Board of Elections admonished Project Vote and ACORN for turning in a significant number of faulty voter registrations. An audit revealed that 83% of sampled registrations that were rejected for carrying false or questionable information were submitted by Project Vote. Many of these registrations carried social security numbers that exist for other people, listed non-existent or commercial addresses, or were for convicted felons in violation of state and federal election law.

In a letter to ACORN, the State Board of Elections reported that 56% of the voter registration applications ACORN turned in were ineligible. Further, a full 35% were not submitted in a timely manner, as required by law. The State Board of Elections also commented on what appeared to be evidence of intentional voter fraud. "Additionally,” they wrote, “information appears to have been altered on some applications where information given by the applicant in one color ink has been scratched through and re-entered in another color ink. Any alteration of a voter registration application is a Class 5 Felony in accordance with § 24.2-1009 of the Code of Virginia."

    WA

    WI

    2008

At least 33,000 ACORN-submitted registrations in Milwaukee have been called into question after it was found that the organizations had been using felons as registration workers, in violation of state election rules. Two people involved in the ongoing Wisconsin voter fraud investigation have been charged with felonies.

    2004

The district attorney’s office investigated seven voter registration applications Project Vote employees filed in the names of people who said the group never contacted them. Former Project Vote employee Robert Marquise Blakely told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that he had not met with any of the people whose voter registration applications he signed, “an apparent violation of state law,” according to the paper.

Watergate break-in was committed by the Committee to Re-Elect the President. They weren't doing it because they were bored. They did it to try to sway the election. It's the the biggest and best example of massive voter fraud in the 20th century. Or maybe you think they could have made more ground registering homeless people?

That's what decided the election, then! Aren't American reactionaries weird!

Right, I put up a couple of pages of voter fraud that shows hundreds of cheats and the only come back the Left ever has, is did it turn the election? Isn't it odd, that almost all the cheaters are Democrats and almost all those against voter ID's are Democrats?

In any election you get a few cheats, almost always on the right. American extremists love to make high drama out of minor exceptions, because they find statistics dull and only have twenty fingers and toes! :)

We aren't talking of a few cheats. We are talking of hundreds of cheats that add up to thousands of illegal votes. I challenge you to find anywhere near as many on the Right charged with voting fraud as I have posted on the Left.

Thank you for referring me back to your post.

    You included two links.

The first was a Human Events story which repeated allegations made by conservative groups in the 2004 Washington state elections that were not supported by fact or subsequent investigation. This repeating the allegation long after the (unproved) fact is a common tactic in conservative media.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Washington_gubernatorial_election,_2004

Your second link is a catalog of various events in which conservative claim are illegal activities attributable to ACORN. You will note that in exactly two cases, were actual ACORN officials convicted.

Some of the others were the frivilous cases brought by US Attorneys installed by Karl Rove and Alberto Gonzales in order to gin up this particular meme. Note that in this entire list of allegations, relatively few list any charges being brought ,and fewer still, an conviction.

This meme plays on the general public's ignorance of how voter registration law works. The Federal Motor Voter Act of 1996 requires that any voter registration forms gathered by any organization, its employees, or subcontrators be turned in to election officials,. even if the registrations appear to be, or obviously are fraudulent. NOT turning them in IS a crime. It is not illegal to turn in a voter registration form for Mickey Mouse. It's up to voter registration officials to verify the authenticitiy of voter registration forms, not ACORN, or any other third party. ACORN ,like many conservative groups, employ canvassers whose degree of training and professionalism vary.

Likewise, it is illegal for a voter registration worker or organization to discard a registration form filled out by someone on a different party or who obviously isn't going to vote for your candidate. Again, the law requires that ALL registration forms be turned in.

The 2012 cases in Virginia involved a vendor employed directly by the Republican National Committee discarding registration forms filled out by Democrats, which IS illegal.

There is no evidence that ACORN was directly employed by the Democratic party, nor that ACORN as an organization engaged in systematic voter registration fraud.

A registration form may have been submitted signed by Mickey Mouse, but Mickey Mouse didn't get to vote because election officials couldn't verify the existance of Mickey Mouse or an address for him.

The Democrats who filled out voter registration forms on the mistaken belief that the canvasser who was working for the GOP was going to obey the law an turn those registrations in, didn't get to vote, eitherr, and that is voter fraud.

These things are pretty standard, though a lot of your population comes from areas where the rule is 'vote early, vote often' or 'vote as Master tells you', certainly. You'll find, everywhere, though, that it is the Right that steals elections: stealing is their métier, after all. They always accuse someone else of their faults, however, because they are holy hypocrites. We all know that.

No, because in most of the citations offered by conservatives, alleged IS the word.

This is the typical discussion on this topic.

The conservative all assert widespread vote fraud, because the conservative noise machine, and ex disc jockeys like Limbaugh all work the meme, suggesting the existance of somethign they have no evidence for. This works on people who don't read newspapers and have little long term memory of history or politics (or choose not too because their heroes keep turning out to be chumps or villians).

Liberal respond with facts and get shouted down.

If the Republican party were really interested in election reform (and I can assure you, they are NOT), they'd be talking about it now.

And they'd be proposing real reform, not championing a piecemeal set of voter supression efforts in various states.

Personally, I think every election in the US should be run by a strengthened Federal Election Commission, with standardized ballots, standardized procedurres, and conducted under the eye of civil servants, not by local volunteers and local party officials as US elections are run now.

Of course, this would require national voter registration (which would probably be automatic), and, most likely, national voter ID's and a requirement to present them.

This is the only circumstance under which I would support voter ID laws.

Unless voter ID's are easy to for honest people to get, universal, and governed by the same rules everywhere, they are little more than a new supression tactic.

It will be interesting to see what the next election brings.

The GOP hasn't been especially successful on a large scale at voter supression by caging, and voter ID laws haven't been a winner for them either.

We'll see what the next tactic is going to be.

No need for voter ID laws. Voter fraud clearly isn't happening. Clearly.

This is an idiotic statement. I am sorry I was going to read the entire thread before posting but this is insane. First we can stop voter fraud at the polling place simply by verifying all registration and having people sign in at their polling place. Being IDed could help a lot but requiring a specific form of ID is an effort to stop part of the population to vote. I know personally many people at my polling place, but I have to pull out my ID card etc. It is not a hassle for me but it is funny that I am talking to the woman about her kids while we go through the perfunctory legal dance. But what about the woman behind me who lives in the nursing home that I vote in. She doesn't drive, she uses a wheel chair, she has no family to take her to the DMV, how does she get the proper ID? Now think about those living in rural areas where the office to get said ID is miles away? Okay, let's all have ID, but here is the thing. The OP's example would not have been stopped by voter ID, and of course we have this: http://freethoughtblogs.com/dispatches/2013/01/31/nevada-republican-pleads-guilty-to-voter-fraud/

If we invalidate every election for the handful of voter fraud that occur we would never have elected officials. And the woman in Nevada was caught without an ID law. So you might want to change your position.

Who went in for literacy tests and such? Who is trying to re-introduce similar crap? No American extremist will consider 'proof' other than a quotation for their Holy Book, Wikipedia, so what is the point of any discussion? Some of your moderate-right conservatives will cheat at elections, but the nutter-conservatives will cheat much more because the American majority is still sane and they can't win without, obviously.

You've got the point. Republicans don't want that lady to be able to vote. And they've spent a lot of money trying to make that happen.
