So much for those "green" jobs Jerry Brown is counting on to save the state of California. I've said it countless times, the only "green" jobs will be temporary installation and maintenance jobs. Obama says we need to get back to making things. True enough, but American Businesses are so hamstrung by Loony Left Enviro Wacko Regulations there isn't a prayer we can compete with anyone in the world. Add to that California's "go it alone" cap and trade, California will be soon needing a bailout.

Looks like China is beating our ass in green technology.

    Nice.

Wouldn't expect you to read any deeper than your obvious dig at "green jobs". Did you hear this from Rush or Hannity?

So they are forced to shutter an older, less efficient plant. Why? Because solar power is making significant improvements in manufacturing costs and efficiency of solar power.

Yep. We continue to fall behind in growth areas like this and the Right continuously crows about the era of recidivism that they are hoping to bring.

    Welcome to 3rd world America.

seems to me the EPA and greenies are the ones holding us back in nuke plants. Wind is about worthless and solar is only effective when used as solar thermal

It's hilarious how the claim "the epa and the greenies are the ones holding us back" seems to be used a blanket claim in a variety of areas by the righties even though there is little to no evidence that it is true.

not sure where your article got the claim they are closing the fremont plant...

Solyndra Inc., the high-flying solar panel maker once touted by President Barack Obama as a model for a green energy future, said Wednesday it has scuttled its factory expansion in Fremont, a move that will stop the company's plans to hire 1,000 workers.

Solyndra said it will also close an existing factory in the East Bay. That will leave the company with one Fremont factory, a new plant visible from Interstate 880.

The moves mean that instead of having 2,000 workers in Fremont, Solyndra will cap its work force at 1,000, which is about the current level. Solyndra also will, over the next several weeks, eliminate 155 to 175 jobs in Fremont. That includes 135 contract employees and 20 to 40 full-time workers, said David Miller, a Solyndra spokesman.

The company seeks to slash production costs amid fierce competition from rival manufacturers in China and the United States.

"Solar has become incredibly competitive," Miller said.

obviously its not good news, they seem to be having some struggles....

"I've said it countless times, the only "green" jobs will be temporary installation and maintenance jobs. "

1000 manufacturing jobs...not installation, and not maintenance. not as many as hoped, but more than no solar would have yielded.

so how many nuke plant aps are being held back by the EPA as we speak ? What about the big Mojave solar plant being on hold because of some tortoise? The liberal left are the biggest hypocrites on the planet. EPA stops solar plants becasue of a tortoise but allows mountain top removal mining...go DEMS

Actually, regarding nuke plants, the relevant agency is the NRC......and building new plants and waste disposal sites is being held back by NIMBY (Not in my back yard), not activists.

lets be fair here....there is a battle within the democratic party about mountaintop removal mining....but its not among liberals.

I thought you were cheering this guy on?

West Virginia, at the direction of Democratic Gov. Joe Manchin, sued the Obama administration today to overturn new federal rules on mountaintop removal mining.

The lawsuit, filed by the state Department of Environmental Protection, accuses U.S. EPA of overstepping its authority and asks the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia to throw out the federal agency's new guidelines for issuing Clean Water Act permits for coal mines.

"Over the past year and a half, we have been fighting President Obama's administration's attempts to destroy our coal industry and way of life in West Virginia," Manchin said today. "We are asking the court to reverse EPA's actions before West Virginia's economy and our mining community face further hardship."

Sorry todd, I only get information from real news sources not spin blogs if that's what you mean. The OP story was from the Oakland Tribune.

NRC has jurisdiction over nuke plants. They also have to look at those pesky safety issues to minimize the chances of another TMI or Chernobyl. How anti-business can you get? [/sarcasm]

So...The Executive might be able to regulate CO2 by fiat but can't get Nuclear power expedited?

BS on its face. Obama is perfectly happy with a thwarted nuclear power industry.

Call it whatever makes you feel better, but we're getting beat/losing.

They would be manufactured over there anyway...but we're missing out on having the patents and corporate infrastructure to profit from it.

I would love to be running a solar systems california and battery system but the wife says they are ugly and doesn't want to spend $15,000! There are many solar sites and companies out there. Most States require a State approved system as do many local utilities that offer power buyback and incentives. State and the local utility incentives in California are quite friendly.

Really, please post a link to them. After doing some reading, they aren't friendly at all.
