It is so argued that drugs need to be prohibited because they are bad. They cause plenty of problems, including addiction, health issues, and even death. To prevent individuals from experiencing these ill-effects, additional consequences should be added by putting drug users in prison.

If one is stupid enough to do drugs despite the consequences - including death even! - how will the possibility of a prison sentence thwart him/her? The answer: it won't. This is the logical fallacy that makes even the attempt of drug prohibition foolish, or any paternalistic law for that matter. The result will only be prisons filled up with non-violent 'criminals'.

Legalization of the sale of drugs would create new industries to tax and provide many jobs that don't currently exist. Such an increase in job availability would bring a lot of income to the State and Federal Governments, while revitalizing the economy because more people would have money to spend.

This is Free Market Capitalism 101; supply meets demand. Not to mention that people who want drugs legally can get a prescription from their doctor or therapist. There are plenty of drug users who have obtained drugs legally and use them the same way people use illegal drugs. Prohibition is a lose-lose situation.

It's about control. Various groups want to control everything you do, in public and in your own home. It's about THEIR right to live in the society that they want and screw any one else who wants different.

ahhhhhh, druggies are feeling politically isolated. I feel so bad for them. Maybe instead of burning out all their lives, they try to become productive members of society and then they could care less about issues that only druggies concern themselves with.

Instead of worrying if a pothead can legally smoke, I'm going to worry about setting myself and family up financially now and in the future.

I don't take drugs - but that's irrelevent anyway and off topic. The discussion is about the logic behind prohibiting drugs and if it make sense - not whether an individual should do drugs or not.

this is an issue of despotic statism, not druggies looking for a fix.

You can worry about what you want to worry about and feel however morally rightchous about it as you want. You don't want to do drugs - well good for you.

Now, with that out of the way: Do you have anything thoughtful or profound to provide to this conversation about the logic (or lack thereof) behind prohibiting drugs?

I know. Re-read my post. I was responding to the taxation issue. P.Lotor did not want to pay the Man more taxes, so I mentioned he could avoid the taxes on drugs by not taking them. I don't give a rat's ass if he actually takes drugs or not. I can't think of any reason it's my business.

I'm not interested in any taxes I may or not pay for drugs, if you re-read my post you will see that it is focused on the taxes that government recieves.

It's certainly indignant to have to smoke weed in secrecy like a fiend. For those who smoke weed, who aren't hurting anybody mind you, being made a mockery of is a "real issue".

I suppose that was the wrong word.....you're right.

If society idnates them that's one thing; but, pot-head shouldn't be indignated by the government.

Or arrested. Or gaoled. Or beaten in custody to reveal your "source". Or have your house confiscated by the state.

    And that's just cannabis.

To my knowledge, this doesn't happen too much for weed anymore. Most states have dicrimimilized cannibis to where it's "just" a misdemeanor. Still B.S., but not quite as bad.
