This man went from a manual labor loader making miniumum wage to 30 thousand dollars richer thanks to the government.

It is an example of government helping the good guys against the bad businessmen.

We need more stories like this, if you are American and have something you can file a lawsuit for go for it....the odds are in your favor under this pro-government administration.

So now an employer can't deny somebody a job if they deem their appearance as counter to what is desired to make sales and present themselves in a manner that best represents the company?

    Retarded.

Is it ok if I turn down people for hire if they are right wing fundamentalist Christians? How about if they are state-worshiping authoritarian nationalist progressives? I really don't care about hairstyles or how people wear their pants, but I'd shut down my business before being forced to associate with the likes of you.

    I know.

But every lawsuit only reminds us that blacks are not as employable as other groups in America.

So a handful of illiterates get a pile of money for doing nothing but other blacks who might deserve a job find it a little harder to get hired.

It shouldn't get caught up as long as he keeps it under a cap or pinned up. Thats what most rastafarians do whom I know.

Actually, I find it more good reason not to hire anyone at all. Why should I apply myself to creating more wealth for the benefit of parasites the likes of Liberalminority and Kimaris deem more worthy? Whenever I get to the point of needing to hire employees for my business, I usually just drop a few of my least favorite clients and take a vacation.

Because if you dont' hire people, you'll end up paying more in taxes to support them on welfare. So have it your way........and pay.

If you own a private company then yes, you should be able to hire or not hire whoever you want.

You can't because the law doesn't give you that freedom but you should.

Government OTOH should not be allowed to treat citizens differently for any reason.

The welfare state will eventually collapse, as all welfare states do. Anything I can do to speed up that process is fine by me.

    I hope so.

But it is difficult to be a modern "progressive" if you think for yourself.

Actually you can hire who you want. You can get away with all sorts of discrimination so long as you keep your yap shut when giving a Rasta man the cold shoulder. You can learn a lot about a person too by knowing how to interview them.

Something like this decision is really worrisome though. If the government is going to claim a business owner has no right to set appearance guidelines for their employees, they have gone way too far. When I was a young stud muffin I had hair past my shoulders ( I was in a grunge band) but my boss at my day job made me keep it neat and pulled back because I was representing HIS COMPANY. And I didn't say boo about it. If he would have forced me to cut it, I would have quit and got another job. Funny thing though, when you have a good attitude to begin with and are a good employee, there is usually mutual consideration.

I think there is a case where a Muslim woman sued Abercrombie & Fitch because they told her not wear the scarf on her head at work.

As for adroitly avoiding hiring certain people I suppose blacks could bend your ear about that.

There have been several cases where a company or even the government itself was sued for making every applicant take a standard literacy test and too many blacks failed the test.

There are several lessons to be learned from that but I'm sure that blacks and guilt-ridden white libs will never learn them.

It is called "at-will", where a company can hire and fire at will.

That is grounds for a civil rights lawsuit, the equal opportunity commissions handbook specifically states one cannot be barred from employment because of political affiliation among other things.

well stated, many businesses do move around discrimination very easily by not making it too obvious

a decision like this moves the people one step closer to closing those loopholes which allow for business discrimination.

My company has every right to fire me if while acting on their behalf I do not present myself to the customers to their liking. If I was to dye my hair purple and grow a three foot beard and dye it pink and and wear tank tops and shorts into sales calls on our industrial customers, wouldn't they have a right to fire me?

Why does this guy get special treatment? He doesn't have to work for them.

I could list several reasons why I would not hire you based upon conversation had in the interview. From conversations here, I would assume you are a terrible employee. Regardless of your production, overall synergy would suffer.
