Well, nothing like being afraid you're going to get your butt handed to you on a silver platter tonight at the debates! The President finally calls Gov. Perry to express his concern for the people of Texas and the devastation and loss of life over this worst fire in our history.

    Here's the facts:

--Back in April during the first batch of fires, Perry requested a major disaster declaration from the President---which would have made the state eligible for federal assistance.
--Obama denied Perry's request on 5/3.
--Perry appealed and received partial approval July 1st. A request to expand the scope of federal relief is still pending. Our Governor has been made to beg when other states and areas get quick relief from the prez.

BUT today....ON THE DAY OF THE REPUBLICAN DEBATES, the President finally calls Perry to express his concern. Yeah right. Sorry, Mr. President...as usual you are a whole lot of days late and your concern doesn't seem all that genuine.

Didn't Perry cut the budget for fire fighters by 75% THIS YEAR? Now he expects federal funds to plug up his hole AGAIN?

It's because of people like Perry that FEMA has to scrounge for funds.

Here's hoping THAT comes up in the debate.

First of all--that budget is for the upcoming year and hasn't even gone into effect yet. And yes--because of these fires it might have to be adjusted next year. but that does not negate the fact that by anyone's standards, these wildfires are a natural disaster and qualify for declaration of federal disaster status. Obama hasn't done it because 1) he doesn't like Gov Perry and 2) Texas is a Republican state and he knows the state won't go for him. You can bet your bottom dollar that if this large state was majority Democrat, he would have given us that relief months ago. He's supposed to be the president for all; not just his supporters. Other states get it for far less than what our state is going through. We pay federal taxes too, you know.

It was stated on the debate tonite that FEMA is 20B in debt. We should cut spending elsewhere before FEMA spends another dime.

Obama is an evil man and doesn't care if he make the people of Texas suffer to get payback against political opponents.

Bush, on the other hand was a good man who helped Africa with their AIDS problem even though it meant zero votes for him.

That's why I supported Bush, because he was a good and decent man.

This just shows the Lefts true colors. If its a Blue state, lets help,if its a Red State, screw them, right?I have cousins who have lost their homes to the fires and other relatives have had to flee in Bastrop County,TX.When disasters hit Liberal states, like New York ,Ive NEVER objected they should not get help because of their political stance.God forbid if the Liberals here face a disaster.
I thought Libs were for helping EVERYONE,and that everyone is equal? What happened to that?Or does that only apply during a debate? The President's job is to serve ALL AMERICANS regardless of political stance and he/she shouldnt play favorites.

    Oh puhl-leazzze.

Texans cheap out on their budget and want everyone ELSE to pay for it!

MOST states FUND their fire departements and pay the taxes to do it!

Texas has a large proportion of VOLUNTEER fire departments to START with, and THEN Perry cut their budges by more than HALF so the volunteers don't even have GAS to put in the trucks! ALL this so he can brag that he has "NOT RAISED TAXES"!

This is like the wealthy uncle who wants the rest of the family to rebuild his house when it burns down because he "saved" money by NOT buying home insurance!

It wouldn't be so bad but this self-same uncle arrogantly criticized everyone ELSE for wasting their money on non-essentials like insurance!

Americans, we are looking at the future of America if Perry or other Tea Partiers are elected president! Except there is no SUPER federal government to bail us out after the Tea Party burns the USA down with no fire trucks!

Lies ""I think we've had 9,000 separate fires in the state of Texas," Perry told reporters in Austin on Wednesday. "The federal government has only helped us with 25 of them. That's inappropriate."

But a spokesperson in Perry's office confirmed that of the roughly 9,000 reported wildfires this season, the state has only applied for 25 fire management grants through FEMA. And every request has been awarded to the state, the Perry representative said."

Perry screwed up he only asked for 25 incidents and he got 25 times a yes on aid.

Seeing he slashed the budgets on firefighters and now wants to put the extra costs of that decission on the federal gouvernement...

Didnt he believe in being responsable for your own actions?

What would a phonecall before have helped, you think thats going to put out fires?

How many of you are forever prattling on about how he's "not your president"?
How many of you are always whining about having to pay taxes?
If that's how you want to play the game, why come here and moan about the consequences?
And if the ********** philosophy ever gets its way, this is the sort of society and services that you can expect for everything.

The only reason that the **********s have any support, apart from the congenital racists, is that people haven't experienced the brave new world that they are trying to shove down everyone's throats.
If they get their way, we'll soon have a country with an infrastructure and social safety net worse than Haiti, littered with uneducated, unhealthy people, but they'll be totally free to live under a bridge if they have trouble paying a mortgage or rent, eat out of dumpsters if they can't afford food, and die if they get sick and can't afford a doctor.

That's the land of the free, ********** style.
    Enjoy.

Which is, of course, blatantly untrue.

Texas got plenty of federal aid. The part that they did not get aid for was the myriad of small fires that were not considered disasters.

A hilarious follow up to Perry's addressing of the wildfires.

    http://politics.blogs.foxnews.com/2011/09/11/perry-no-show-wildfires-press-conference

Gov. Rick Perry, R-Texas, may have added fuel to the firestorm surrounding his handling of wildfires in his state. On Saturday, Perry was scheduled to hold a press conference to talk about the fires, but the event came and went with no sign of him. The explanation from his office didn't come until after the event was over.

A spokesperson for the Governor said there was a last minute change in the location of the event, and the governor didn't want to make people wait around. The press was given a heads up about the change of location, but not about the governor's absence.

His office added that officials at that press conference "reiterated the same message that the governor would have delivered." They changed the location because the first location was still restricted to the public.

Gov. Perry has been receiving some criticism recently due to time spent on the campaign trail during while there were fires burning in his state. However, earlier this week, Perry cut a campaign stop in South Carolina short to return to Texas and address the wildfires.

Perry attended a 9/11 memorial service at the Texas State Cemetery in Austin on Sunday morning. He is scheduled to return to the campaign trail in Florida on Monday.

Why on earth should President Obama have called Governor Perry who had, only 2 weeks prior to the fire, spoken out against FEMA and the idea of federal disaster aid? Talk about a hypocrite! I'd have let him stew in his own rhetoric as well!
