ERBIL-Hewlêr, Kurdistan region 'Iraq', — Kurdistan Regional Government's Ministers of Peshmarga (Kurdish defense forces) Affairs said Monday that they will not allow the establishment of any military bases in the region to watch Kurdish rebels in the northern border territories.

The minister's statement comes after local Kurdish media citing a Turkish newspaper, Taraf, reported that Turkey has officially requested from the KRG to allow the establishment of two military bases in Raniya and Churqurna districts near Kurdish rebel hideouts in the Qandil Mountains,www.ekurd.netnorth west of Sulaimaniyah city.

"There is no way that the Kurdish leadership allow the establishment of any military bases by neighboring countries inside Kurdistan region.

That is by no means possible" Jaafar Mustafa, KRG Minister of Peshmarga Affairs told AKnews.

Mustafa also said that he was not aware of any such Turkish requests.

From August 17, Turkish jets carried out air strikes against a Kurdish PKK separatist group's bases in Iraqi Kurdistan region, under justification of chasing elements of the anti-Turkish PKK, forcing large numbers of Kurdish citizens of those areas to desert their home villages,www.ekurd.netincluding an air raid that killed 7 Kurdish civilians in a village north of Kurdistan’s Sulaimaniyah city on August 21st.

Turkey has been bombing the bordering territories of Kurdistan Region for years ostensibly aiming at dislodging the Kurdish rebel group, Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK). In the most recent round of air raids, a Turkish warplane killed seven civilians from one family who were fleeing their home as the fighter jets stepped up their strikes last month.

The air strikes have set off condemnation from the Kurdish leadership and all facets of the Kurdish and Iraqi society, in particular after the death of the seven civilians, among whom were four children including a six-month old baby.

Turkish authorities however have rejected the claims of the death of the Kurdish family describing it as a "PKK propaganda"

The PKK demands creation an autonomous Kurdish region and more cultural rights for ethnic Kurds who constitute the greatest minority in Turkey, numbering more than 20 million. A large Turkey's Kurdish community openly sympathise with the Kurdish PKK rebels.

The PKK demanded Turkey's recognition of the Kurds' identity in its constitution and of their language as a native language along with Turkish in the country's Kurdish areas, the party also demanded an end to ethnic discrimination in Turkish laws and constitution against Kurds, ranting them full political freedoms.

These images are from today's newspapers. Ground forces are getting mobilized and ready to assist the construction of Kandil military base.
Our internal affairs minister Mr. Idris Naim Sahin declared ground and air operation into Iraq is imminent.
