Obama can really pick um! First he touts Solyndra, gives them $500 B in taxpayer money (our money!) and then the company promptly goes bankrupt!

And the liberals in this group try and tell us Obama has a great understanding of the applications of investment capital and how to get our economy moving in the right direction again!

It seems that Obama's job performance and his competence as a chief executive is now seriously in question!

"So we lost New Yorks 9th Congressional District to a Republican. No big deal. As soon as my new stimulus bill is passed by Congress, the elections in 2012 will be in the hip pocket of us progressive Democrats once again!"

Treasury Joins FBI, Congress in Investigating Stimulus Loan to Failed Solar Panel Company
September 15, 2011 | The Treasury Department has launched an investigation into a now-defunct solar panel company's $528 million stimulus loan, focusing specifically on the federal bank that processed it.

The loan to Solyndra has set off a firestorm on Capitol Hill, with a Republican-led House committee releasing emails suggesting the White House had pressured budget officials into expediting their fiscal review of the loan ahead of a plant groundbreaking. The company was touted prominently by the Obama administration for its work growing so-called green jobs. But the company went bankrupt this month and is now the target of investigations by the FBI and the Energy Department, as well the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

The Treasury Inspector General's Office said Wednesday night that it too, is investigating the loan, because it was processed by Federal Financing Bank, a government lending institution that falls under Treasury's control. The Treasury's investigation was first reported by ABC News, which quoted a spokesman as saying investigators would "look at everything the FFB had to do with its role in this thing." Obama administration officials on Wednesday defended their support for the loan, claiming the firm fell victim to global economic trends but that federal investment in alternative energy must continue and the administration is moving to finalize as many as 15 loan guarantees for renewable energy companies before the stimulus program ends on Sept. 30.

The testimony came as Republican and Democratic lawmakers raised sharp questions about the decision that ultimately left taxpayers on the hook for millions, and as the newly released emails show administration officials were raising doubts about the loan proposal to Solyndra months before it was finalized. Rep. Fred Upton, R-Mich., said the program was "shrouded in secrecy and uncertainty," questioning whether the loan represented "one bad bet" or the "tip of the iceberg." Jeffrey Zients, deputy director of the White House budget office, acknowledged that Solyndra's bankruptcy will "limit the government's recovery of funds." He called the outcome "very unfortunate."

But at the hearing Wednesday, he said administration officials provided a "thorough examination and analysis" of the loan proposal and said a "challenging global solar market" has made business harder for companies like Solyndra. Jonathan Silver, director of the Energy Department's energy loan office, also said a combination of factors -- namely China flooding the marketplace with cheap solar panels and the European buying market tightening as a result of their economic troubles -- has caused solar-cell prices to plummet. "These changes were particularly damaging to Solyndra," he said.

Despite big celebrations after the passage of Obamacare, the stimulus and financial reform legislation, Obama has given his party little to campaign on with his largely unpopular record, specifically when it comes to jobs. Republicans will spend millions of dollars linking their opponents to Obama and his record, and Democrats who run for office in 2012 will have no choice but to run away from the toxic President, even in what they may once have considered safely Democratic districts. They will exhaust their coffers either painting themselves as "independent" or ignoring Obama's agenda altogether, with incumbents doing everything they can to highlight key differences between their record and Obama's.

Having to spend so much money on defense will spread Democratic funds dangerously thin. In New York's ninth, national Democrats spent more than a half a million defending the Weiner seat, which they never suspected was vulnerable. Getting Democrats to blow critical campaign cash to protect even deeply blue districts is a Republican strategist's dream because it hinders their ability to be competitive elsewhere.

Think about it: If Obama is radioactive in New York City, imagine how his abysmal economic record will play in swing states like Missouri, Ohio, Florida and Pennsylvania, where he is already suffering.

A new poll by the Third Way, a middle-of-the-road political group, shows Obama losing ground in 12 states crucial to his reelection hopes, reports USA Today, noting that "About 59% of 'switchers,' voters who backed Obama in 2008 but voted for a Republican in the midterm elections, say the President's party is more liberal than they are and that their political views align more closely with Republicans. Among the 400 switchers polled, 16% said they would vote for Obama again; 25% said they would back the Republican nominee and 59% were categorized as 'persuadable switchers.'"

Gov't backs 4 more solar loans as deadline looms
Sep 30,`11 WASHINGTON (AP) - The Energy Department on Friday approved four more solar energy loan guarantees worth nearly $5 billion, hours before a controversial loan program was set to expire.

Energy Secretary Steven Chu said the department completed deals on four separate projects, including two that were sold late this week by Arizona-based First Solar Inc., a major solar manufacturer that had been seeking three federal loan guarantees for projects in California. The sales were announced Friday along with the loan guarantees. The loans were approved under the same program that paid for a $528 million loan to Solyndra Inc., a now-bankrupt solar panel maker that has become a symbol for critics of the Obama administration's green energy program.

Two other solar loan guarantees worth about $1.1 billion were announced earlier this week, as the Obama administration pushes forward with the loan program despite pleas from GOP critics to halt it to avoid another Solyndra-like debacle. Chu said the solar projects, which could cost taxpayers as much as $6 billion should help the U.S. as it competes with China and other countries to develop renewable energy. "To win the clean energy race we must invest in projects like this that fund jobs and increase the generation of clean, renewable power in the U.S.," Chu said in a statement. "Deployment of utility-scale solar power will help bring down the cost of solar and strengthen our position as a global clean energy leader."

The deals announced Friday include a $1.5 billion loan guarantee to a team of investors that bought a planned 550-megawatt solar farm on federal land in Southern California from First Solar, as well as $646 million to Illinois-based Exelon Corp. for a 230-megawatt solar plant near Los Angeles. Exelon bought the project from First Solar this week. A third project, worth $1.2 billion, will help San Jose-based SunPower Corp. build a 250-megawatt solar plant in California, while $1.4 billion will go San Francisco-based Prologis Inc. to support installation of about 750 solar rooftop panels in 28 states. The loan program expires on Friday.

Sorry, that's a complete generalization. As a liberal, I criticize Obama because he is out of touch with pragmatic policy. He needs to realize that the private sector needs to initiate job creation, with government as a small helping hand. Government cannot completely manage job creation initiatives.

Tesla Motors is probably not far behind Solyndra...they got $465 million from Obama/government and they are in trouble.

Tesla has a $100K sports car and a $55K sedan...heck of a business model...who are the potential customers?

The Chevy Volt starts at $41K and how many have been sold not counting those that Obama is purchasing for the government?

The USA remains in a very fragile recessionary-type economy, 23 million Americans are unemployed and/or under-employed, and one of our nation's responses is to invest in $100K sports cars and $41K electric cars from Government Motors (GM). Another is to invest in Solyndra who couldn't compete with offshore since day one!

Is this really the best we can do?? Or is this what we do when we are playing political favoritism, gambling with taxpayer money. Gotta wonder how many more examples like these are being cooked...
