    This is a continuation of the thread at;
    http://www.politicalforum.com/lates...lestine-worlds-next-recognized-nation-47.html

    The warnings sounded in that thread are taken seriously by pro-Palestinian groups, even ex-pat Palestinians themselves;

    Certainly, it's all down to the wording of the forthcoming Resolution but we might get an insight into the effectiveness of the bid by studying the reactions of the opposition. There is panic in the Knesset and dismay in Washington- which has resorted to open threats;

    Nevertheless, the bid must proceed with caution and all advice heeded. Its major flaw is that it is proceeding without benefit of a referendum-generated mandate from the entire Palestinian nation. This isn't about putting a few Fatah members on chairs at the UN. It's about the rights of the Palestinian refugees to go home safely.

    No there isnt, no one here even talks about it, what we are concerned with are the terror group/sin Sini - which Egypt is taking care of now and our internal demonstrations that we are about to re-start, also a very famous singer got arrested...long story....sure there is dissatisfaction from from one way declaration so the US and Israel try to warn from possible complications but its mainly the Pal choice

    Thats a good example for a complication, they can be rational or irational about this, personally i hope it will turn out for the best but it wont if they declare Hifae etc' as destinations, i really hope they'll make good use of the new state should they get it.

    The Israeli press features it every single day. For example;

    You're simply wrong.

    Not in your street, perhaps. It will be the main topic of conversation in every street and cafe with an arab in it.

    Washington wants to continue the slow ethnic cleansing of Palestine , contrary to its own , publicly-stated, policy. That's Hypocrisy as Policy and the world is aware of it. The world is also rapidly coming to the opinion that American foreign policy is devised and conducted by American fools at the behest of Zionist brutes.

    Did the Zionists get permission from anybody before they declared the State of Israel and Independence, out of interest?

    If not, why do they have such a problem with the Palestinians emulating them?

    No, they went right ahead and declared their State , including territory which wasn't designated as ' Israel ' under UNGAR 181 from which they had ethnically cleansed the larger part of the indigenous inhabitants. For this they were called ' brave ' and ' plucky little Israel ' for sixty years.

    I really don't know what's going to happen in the region if Palestine becomes a state. I think the reason the US and Israel aren't on board is that they fear that Palestine will be a staging ground for Hamas. I don't know enough about it to give a real opinion, though. What borders would palestine claim? I don't think having a state that is split in two and smaller than New Jersey is a defensible border by any stretch of the imagination.

    Um. I do believe this vote is explicitly about the former. Not so much the later, unless you happen to mean going to their new home in Palestine, at which point sure.

    The area has been conquered over and over again throught history. The Islamic Ottoman Empire had control of it until they lost WWI. After that the British wound up controlling it as the British Mandate for Palestine.

    After WWII Britain decided they didn't want it and asked the new UN to sort it out. The UN created a plan to turn the region into two countries, Israel and Palestine. So yes they "got permission".

    However since Israels creation the Arabs have been launching one war after another to annihilate it. The Arabs always lose and typically Israel grabs up more land every time. Hence the refugees. Also the UN doesn't recognize the right of a country to gobble up more land just because they won a war, even a defensive one. Hence why the Israeli settlers are considered illegal under international law.

    You might find this thread informative;
    http://www.politicalforum.com/law-justice/114609-where-israel-palestine-border-under-law.html

    Successive US administrations - along with everybody else- have called for ' a viable and contiguous State of Palestine '. In effect Gaza and the West Bank will be joined again as they are under United Nations Resolution 181, the so-called ' partition resolution '. The Zionists will have to give up the territory in-between which they have, illegally, occupied.
    Hamas is a political party. Most of the negativity associated with it is US/Zionist propaganda. True, it has a military wing which resists the invasion of Palestine. However, no invasion= no resistance to invasion.

    There's an awful imbalance of reports demanding that Palestine ceases its bid in comparison to reports urging Palestine to continue its just path. Don't you think that odd, as it's already known that the overwhelming majority of world States support Palestine ? :mrgreen: Do you need any further proof that your media outlet is lying to you by omission ?

    It's handy having the UN Secretary-General in ones corner.

    US speech-writers are currently attempting to devise a response to the overwhelming UN vote for Palestinian Statehood . This response will have to explain to the world why the US is vetoing its own policy but that the US still supports Palestinian Statehood . Best of luck.

    America will vote against recognition of Palestinian statehood. Does any one really believe Americans care what the rest of the world thinks about its vote against Palestine? The world is pretty irrelevant to us at this juncture in history.

    America is far less relevant to the world than it was. Thank Zionism.

    That's true. But has it occurred to you that America has less ability to restrain Israel now? May the Arabs live in interesting times.

    Yep........that's a fair comment.

    The US Government (and from posts on here, some, if not most, of the US population) do not do moral, fair, equitable or "for the greater good"....at all at this juncture in history..but really never since the Japanese and Germany decided to pull the US isolationist rug from under their feet!

    Pity they did..even if, as Americans continually maintain, we'd all be speaking German now in Europe. I can't see a lot of difference between losing a war and being in the EU re loss of sovereignty...so the difference is what bar language? With America hunkering down in its own corner of the world as it used to before the World Wars and pulling the security blanket over its head, all the rest of us would be a lot safer now.

    The US does perpetuating an ultimately unsustainable way of life, eliminating or minimizing threats to that way of life, and maximizing its control over the resources to maintain that way of life.......so the world gets trashed in order that the Americans can get cheap oil, sell armaments and feel important.

    If you can apply personality disorders to countries.......then the US has a combination of the narcissistic and sociopathic versions.....hence the "We are great, we are in charge and everybody has to bow down before us" attitudes....but unfortunately it has also a fair swathe of dependent personality disorder.....how else can you explain its unquestioning submissiveness to the dictat of Israel.

    Eras of general peace under the authority of a hegemon give way to eras of general war when the hegemon retreats. This is the inescapable truth. Transitional times in history are interesting and bloody.

    Unfortunately, I see no sign that the USA is retreating...if it was, it would go along with the majority of the UN and recognise a Palestine state.

    Out of interest.....would you care to cite some areas of general peace in the world as a direct result of the USA implementing its self proclaimed authority to interfere since it removed its security blanket and got "involved" with the world after WW1?

    You see no evidence of retreat because one cannot see attitudes.

    India and Pakistan did not go to war in December 2001 after Muslim terrorists attacked the Indian Parliament. The only reason they didn't go to war was American intervention with both sides. America sent its top diplomats to both capitals immediately. I remember the video of Pakistan's foreign minister hugging the American diplomat.

    Pakistan and India were then both part of Pax Americana. Eras of general peace are usually accompanied by numerous small wars, but not big all inclusive wars.

    Oh btw, whether there is a Palestinian state or not will be determined in the post-American era in which there are no American imposed restraints on any of the actors.

    There will be a Palestinian State just as soon as the United Nations majority votes for it. US of AIPAC recognition is neither expected nor crucial.

    The decline of US power will be directly connected to the decline of the US economy, which will in turn inevitably result in reduced US military spending. Fortunately there is a lot of fat in the current military system (which probably won't be the first thing targeted for cuts, paradoxically), but eventually the military gap will narrow significantly between America and other foreign powers. It is too early to talk about an immediate serious effect, but the long-term trend seems clear unless something is done to reverse it.
