You have the same chance to win the lottery as you do trying to work your way to the top. This is absolute truth. Yes you can possible go from "rags to riches". But the odds are grossly stacked against you. It really is no different than playing the lottery and hope you win.

One involves solely chance. The other requires preparation, hard work and desire.

I don't know why that's tough for you to understand, nor why "the top" is the sole qualifying metric of success. Plenty of people are extremely successful, yet never reach "the top".

The whole attempt to analogize success with chance fails miserably.

It may be hard to go to "riches" but you can get an education and make something of yourself. Sure you won't necessarily become a millionaire but you can make enough money to live comfortably.

Bill Maher is not the best person to be listening to.

Yup. The top 1% own 95% of the wealth. It is silly to think you will ever be in the top 1%, a mere failure rate of 99%.

This from a guy who just recently got a star on the Hollywood walk of fame.

How many tickets did you have to buy before you won that lottery, Billy boy? I'll betcha it was more than one. Amirite?

I believe it was actually Larry Elder who said it best - Successful liberals do not preach what they practice. They work hard and achieve things just like conservatives but then they turn around and tell other people they can't do the same thing.

Bill Maher gets paid to be on television and tell you that you can never be like him. If you buy anything he's selling, you're being played for a fool.

There are many ways to measure success.

With hard work and some intelligence, Americans have a reasonably good chance of working their way to the... call it the "upper middle". And the thing about this country is that the "upper middle" is a ridiculously high standard of living.

So in this case people are supposed to ignore the statistical averages? There are no guarantees. It's true you will never know until you at least try, but unless you were born into wealth, the odds are pretty solid, the majority will never statistically make it into the top 2-5%. There "ARE" no guarantees, and there is no magic routine that will make it so.

The exact reason why the founding father only hoped to provide for a right to life, liberty, and the “pursuit” of happiness, not guaranteed happiness.

So the goal is to get filthy rich? I always thought it was to support your family and make an honest wage.

This thread highlghts the difference between Conservatives and Liberals nicely.

Liberals are self loathing and pessimistic.
Conservatives are hard working and optimistic!

Even that is questionable for the majority at this point.

Democrats are unrealistic as to what is actually happening at this point, and republicans are delusional. Today's political landscape is based on, liberalism as a fantasy, and conservative is a delusion.

It’s a propaganda wonderland. The reason we are getting no where fast.

Republicans are anything but delusional.Give me just one bonafide
example of a major republican saying something delusional.
Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid make delusional comments almost
weekly. You need to start telling the truth.

The poverty ridden are where they wish to be, by no fault but their own.

Probably the most intellectually dishonest statement ever made in the history of mankind.

IMO, being born in America is winning the lottery. I am an average wage earning american, yet my wealth is in the top 10% of the world.

Wealth nor happiness are defined by lotteries or the top 1%.

How about Bachmann's comment about teenagers becoming retarded from immunization innoculations.
    Everyone add their favorite.

I agree. I cancelled my subscription to HBO because it has that moron as well as many other left wing programs. Time was, premium channels used to just show movies and weren't on some political agenda.

Rhetorical question. You already know he can't because Bachmann never said it.

“There’s a woman who came up crying to me tonight after the debate. She said her daughter was given that vaccine. She told me her daughter suffered mental retardation as a result of that vaccine... This is the very real concern and people have to draw their own conclusions.”

    Read more: http://www.nypost.com/p/news/opinio...hysteria_cQ6rr4Fm6nmNL20tPqnVxO#ixzz1ZIsDzbJd

Now give her a pass for simply repeating what a woman told her.
    Begin.

It's a little game Liberals play.Like Bachmann giving her SOTU rebuttal
at CNN and looking slightly off camera. The reason was she was also
looking into her Internet feed for that audience.
Plus she really didn't mispronounce Iwo Jima.
The Left are such pathetic media bullies.

She never said that the vaccine causes retardation. She wants people to make informed decisions (such as giving children the vaccine).
