I have been observing something of interest of late. It seems that as Romney has single handedly destroyed the Perry campaign in the debates and all the scrutiny has turned on both Romney and Cain, Newt keeps rising in the polls.

So how many think Newt has a chance? Clearly he is the best debater out there and future debates should only bolster his position. In addition, who else has been a Speaker of the House and can brag that they balanced the budget? In fact, it may never happen again.

Not only that, but I think he's the smartest, most experienced, and best candidate.
Man, would he slice and dice Obama in a debate....would love to see that.

I'd like to see a Gingrich/Ron Paul ticket. WOW

I have a hunch that Obama will refuse to debate the R nominee at all. He has nothing to gain by it.

This would be a great thing for the United States. Ron Paul, while I really like him, could never be president. He needs someone to tether him to the ground and Gingrich would fit this bill perfectly.

I think Gingrich has a good chance. With all the negatives people bring up about his past, he's still rising.....something Romney isn't doing.

I could easily vote for him as the head of the ticket, but would prefer a Paul/Gingrich ticket.

Ron Paul is too old to be Vice-President and what's the point, really? Ron Paul would do more to change the basic structure of the Federal Government and that is what we need. With Paul as President and Gingrich as Veep, Newt could help navigate through Congress some of the changes Ron Paul wants to bring about. Then RP could step down after one term and let Gingrich have the next 8 years.

We might actually be able to turn things around with such a ticket.

BTW, the Gingrich/Cain debate is tonight at 8 Eastern time. I think this link will work for it.

So why has he struggled as much as he has, especially early in his campaign?

    Who? Gingrich?
Well, I guess it was some old baggage. Vague stuff. And his wife was portrayed as a rich diva.
But as time has gone on, his gravitas has gained him respect. He's a smart man. I think he's got what it takes.

I've been leaning towards Newt for a very long time. He is the best real conservative in the bunch.

Interesting montra, six of six at least considering Gingrich. Having turn the tables on Hillarycare and Bill's somewhat liberal spending policy once, he MIGHT be able to do it again, this time from the Big House. It's going to take more than just conservative rhetoric, which their all displaying, but getting things done from the executive branch is a little harder and he already knows how both ends work.

There must be something to this. His numbers are going up too, ya know.

And some of the Contract with America WAS enacted. That was good.

I too, would enjoy watching Gingrich debate Obama. I believe he could handily take Obama.

The man is very intelligent, and knowledgeable.

It would be a spectacle. A real shellacking for Obama.

Like you I favor Paul over Newt. However, lets be realistic here, Ron is a step child in the GOP for his stance on bringing home the troops and legalizing drugs etc. Newt, however, is more mainstream. Of course, one of the things that worries me is Newts support of "W"'s entitlement program of drugs for seniors.

I think maybe I could hold my nose and vote for Newt despite such things, but I definately can't bring myself to vote for the man who gave Obama the template for Obamacare. It ain't happin'in!!

If the GOP wishes to continue to alienate conservatives they will pick Romney.

Am I leaving out Cain? Well, the man is not a politician. I'm not sure an outsider such as he is up to the task. In fact, who really is I guess?

Newt doesn't have a chance, but I would vote for him just so I could say I voted for a guy named 'Newt'.

I like Mr. Gingrich, but I too doubt he will secure the nomination. I think he is unattractive to moderates (Independents), and in the end, they are the ones that will decide the general election.

As I see it, Romney is the most likely to get that vote.

It'll take someone like Gingrich to get this country seriously back on track. Romney is a RINO. Better than Obama, but lackluster. Could just hand it back to the dems in another 4 years. We need a strong leader, not a wishy washy one.

I am inclined to agree, Trinnity.

However, I think Romney has the best shot of defeating Obama. As I said, I believe he will get the Independents, and the hard right will support him, just to remove Obama.

Gingrich on the other hand, would carry the hard right vote, but probably not the majority of the Independents.

In the end, the conservative right will rally, the Independents will not necessarily do that for the GOP.

I don't believe he does because he's too far down in the race and he's got too much baggage. At first I thought even a rock could beat Obama, but there are a lot of Obamabots who will vote for Obama no matter what and the near 50% who don't pay federal income tax sure don't want to start so the Republicans better have a good candidate. Newt is sharp, no doubt, but the Obama campaign has been good at redirecting attention away from his failures and using scare tactics to seize the office.

    I hope Newt overcomes.He's climbing.
But he has to go against the Left's investment. That being to Bogeyman
certain Republicans, with such consistent veracity, that they go down
for the count and make it impossible to get back up.Like what the Left
did and still does to Dick Cheney, then Karl Rove.
Or the Koch Bros. That's one of the reasons the Left does a Bogeyman.
The making a villain out of someone with repeated vigor.Other lefties
preternaturally jump on the ... Get the Bogeyman:headbang: train and it just keeps
on Truckin'.It's a Liberal investment for future use.

Newt has to find a way to Unbogeyman himself.

I just read that Cain leads the pack at 18%. Newt is now tied with Romney at 15%. In fact, Newt is the ONLY one on the upswing while Romney and Cain are headed down.

I just can't believe that Perry is hanging tough at 8% even though he can't even remember his own name in half the debates. Who are these nuckleheads? They all must be democrats I reckon.
