Democrat Sierra Club NO-ENERGY Policies....in action......

.....its just one Solyndra after another. We cant balance the budget, cut the (D)efticit, or even think about trimming the (D)ebt.......yet we have money to build and abandon 14,000 wind turbines.

Clearly we need to raise taxes on the rich........to keep this absolute waste flowing......

Are American engineers so poorly educated that they cannot get wind turbines to work? Here in socialist Europe, we have 12 turnbines which produce the same power output and the first comercial nuclear power plant.

I dunno, but I thought that capitalism yielded the best results, but it seems that Europe can get a turbine to be effective and the US cannot.

    Odd that.

Maybe you should find out how much those wind turbines cost you, tax money helps keep them running. Fail on your part to blame capitalism when its all about cronyism and the government deciding who wins and who loses. If it was about capitalism, the wind turbines would only be built if they could compete on a cost basis, but alas they do not. And before you talk about "big oil," subsidies, the government should pick winners and losers in the oil fields either.

Obama is not a capitalist... People complain he is more of a socialist trying to bankrupt the USA. By the way, how's the euro zone doing? Great, huhm?

So is it that basically, aside from maintenance issues, the things couldn't pay for themselves?

And the first commercially available nuclear power station? How much did that cost?

Fail on you for failing to see that new tech often has high costs, until the tech is developed and fine tuned.

Wind turbines require wind, so place inem in windy places. It's hardly rocket science.

WTF has a currency got to do with wind power? Your statement is a clear sign of you having no legitimate argument on the topic at hand.

In fact the first nuclear power station to send power to a national grid was developed by COMMUNISTS! Yes, the Soviets managed this:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obninsk_Nuclear_Power_Plant

    All with state money.

This problem in the US is an issue with the chosen site, not the technology itself. But this is obvious from the quote in the OP, the fact that it mentioned the "bat may now live" is a clear indicator of the bias of the original article.

But lets not let facts and non-partisanship get in the way of progress.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Kingdom_Atomic_Energy_Authority

This is the owner of the worlds first commercial nuclear power plant. The British Government.

I would say that this is a far more effective use of poblic funds that the US Space Program, which while it has lead to a certain amount of tech trickling into tech used in the free market, has certainly in this one regard been a monumental waste of public funds.

And what if there is no wind during any given week? Do people go without electricity for a week because of that? That's like committing Alaska to strictly solar power in the winter when there is hardly any sunlight.

    Silly socialist liberals.

German electricity is 4-7 times as expensive as American.

    Well done.

Does the dismantling of these abandoned wind turbines count as "green jobs"? Maybe this is what Obama was referring to? :-D

Obviously you understand very little about electricity production, so I'll help out.

In the UK, during the commercial break for Coronation Street (a very very watched TV programme), the power stations increase power to the grid due to half the country making a cuppa tea.

In the case of wind farms, if well placed they will produce steady energy, allowing carbon means of generation to reduce output and hence saving some polution. When the wind drops, the power plants increase output, maintaining power to the grid. Overall a saving to our environment is made.

Like I said; it's not rocket science!

What a waste of money. The can't run when there is no wind nor can they operate in the ice and snow.....good job Obama.

Actually I checked and it's 3x as expensive in Germany, but here's the killer:

Wind being more or less the same price as conventional coal.

So a hybred system would clearly work, with wind monitoring systems interfaced to the coal powered stations, automatically regulating coal power stations (or other means), according to wind conditions.

    Again, not rocket science.

And that's just a turbine baby. Imagine one of the large ones breaking off.
Does anyone have any idea how wind turbines hold up in tornadoes?

We just had a story about the high cost of Dutch windmills and the high cost to consumers if the government subsidies end.

Euro's are paying more for energy than they should because you're all freaked out over the man-made global warming myth and all the horrors that you think are going to happen.

We're also preparing for when coal runs out. Lets face facts, the companies which run the US are not planning for their country to move forward, they are exploiting the status quo now.

I have no problem paying extra for my energy to come from green sources. None what so ever.
