Here is that thread. SO LET US ROLL THE CLOCK BACK.

Why is the US so anti-Iran when other nations such as India, Pakistan, North Korea, China, Israel, and many others already HAVE 'the bomb', as opposed to 'just' being accused of working towards one? And why is Iran so bellicose towards 'the Great Satan'?

Why? How did it start in this particular and VERY topical case? Why do we have such a big contribution towards Brewskier's "million extremists" in that country?

Iran has alot of oil like Russia and US and when oil producing nations have the bomb it makes them even more powerful because they control the oil markets as well.

The US Government enjoyed their Economic hegemonic state Iran for the years they established the Shah when they overthrew their Elected Government. When the Shah finally fell.. the Iranian people were of course pissed that the US Government put a Brutal Dictator in power and the US Government is pissed that Iran is no longer under the heel of their boots.

I can't really speak of our governments intentions, or those of other Western nations... but as far as our citizens (a specific portion of them anyways) there is a lack of understanding, a gullible devouring of propaganda, a fear based on speculation.

We'll have to see what happens. I can only hope sanity prevails.

That really doesn't make sense. Oil producing nations have to SELL oil.. and they don't bomb their customers.

And, Iran only produces a bit over 3 million barrels a day.

Our problems with Iran date to about 1950.. The British converted their navy from coal to Diesel around 1912-1913.. and the race was on.. In 1909 William Knox D'Arcy had bought a small concession.. calling it Anglo-Persian oil.

The British took it over about 1935... they were secretly the majority shareholder.

The British basically screwed the Iranian.. never paying them a fair share of oil revenue.

There was a coup in 1921 (I think)...Reza Shah was assisted by the British government.. Shah was modernizing too fast to suit the Iranian people, but he did establish a parliament.

In 1931 he refused to allow Imperial Airways to fly in Persian airspace, instead giving the concession to German-owned Lufthansa Airlines.

The next year he surprised the British by unilaterally canceling the oil concession awarded to William Knox D'Arcy (and then called Anglo-Persian Oil Company), which was slated to expire in 1961.

The Shah wanted 21% of revenue and the Brits were paying something like 13 to 16%.

Tensions increased until the Mosadeegh ousted the Shah in a landslide Shura council support circa 1951.. and by then the Saudis were getting 50-50 in revenue from ARAMCO.

So the Brits called him a Communist and convinced Eisenhower to overthrow (assassinate) Mosadeegh... The players were Kermit Roosevelt and the father of General Swartzkopf..

The went to Iran with a million dollars cash, hired demonstrators.. tried to killed Mosadeegh repeatedly.. Finally the Mosadeegh fled into exile.. so they trained and funded the SAVAK police, modeled after the Gestapo and installed Mohammad Reza Pahlavi..

Mixed reviews on Mohammad Reza Pahlavi.. He accepted the lower revenue share.. and his small, elite circle benefited..

The Iranians have never gotten over the dirty game that was called Operation Ajax.

Well it's easier to pressure someone and prevent them from developing the bomb rather than dealing with those who already have it.

Plus Ill be honest it's a whole balance of power issue. Nukes put people on a more level playing field regardless of military size. Iran isn't a nation that the US wants to have another trump card. They already have the oil to bargain with, they don't need anymore bargaining chips.

yeah go ahead and start the "blah blah who are you America to tell people what they can do, you are the only ones who have ever used a-bombs on anyone blah blah"

But it's about keeping the unfair advantage over nations like Iran. Right now the ball is in our court when dealing with Iran on issues, if they get the bomb they won't bend as easily. That's not something you want when you want to be the head diplomat.

Call it bullying or whatever, but that's how it is.

Because the USA has it's head shoved up Israel!

What will the USA do 'when' Israel does a preemptive and unprovoked attack on Iran and Iran decides to retaliate?

I'm anti-war so IMO Obama and all of them are just a bunch of war mongers too stupid to know anything else. In the 21st century, to continue this barbaric behavior is unconscionable!

If I was president of the USA, I would approach Iran and offer Iran unconditional security if Iran dismantles all nuclear weapons development, and if they open trade with any nation who wishes to participate. I would tell Israel that Iran is part of the US coalition and messing with Iran is equivalent to messing with the USA. Israel would be given the same opportunity to join the US coalition. If either nation refuses this offer, I say no problemo and will make life quite uncomfortable for them including the option of setting up a missile-defense system around both nations...zero tolerance. But this will never happen because we are war-mongers and we love the ways of Israel...

Iran and the U.S.'s problems date to post WWII politics. We backed the Shah of Iran and kept him propped up. When he was deposed in revolution, the revolutionaries (who became the new government of Iran) pretty much despised us. This hasn't ended.

Iranian problem has little to do with Israel. It mainly has to do with us helping the Shah of Iran get and stay in power.

Iran does not work in United States interests we are the biggest buyers of oil and if they have the bomb they will have more power to sabotage us in the oil markets

Israel must do its duties from all the foreign aid it receives from the US and take care of them so that US troops don't have to be endangered any longer in oil wars

Israel is a huge part of the discussion between Iran and the USA. The US supplies military weapons to Israel, Israel talks about attacking Iran, when this happens the USA will side with Israel, therefore, Israel equals USA.

IMO nearly everything the US does in foreign affairs is done poorly...

Someone here will know but I don't believe the US buys any oil from Iran.

Why would a semi-western nation destroy all of it's oil, and people, and everything with a 'bomb'?

IMO Israel is not a puppet; they are a dangerous rogue nation!

Would be kinda moot to have trade sanctions on a country and then import oil from them...

China and America fought a war in Korea, but the two countries were able to overcome animosity and mutual antagonism. The Chinese/American estrangement didn't last as long as has the Iranian/American alienation. America and Iran will not be able to peacefully coexist until another heaven and earth are born.

The Iranians will not be able to forgive America for the removal of Mossadegh and the shoot down of their airliner. American will not be able to forgive Iran for the Iranian Hostage Crisis or the murder of American troops in Lebanon or Iraq.

The enmity between the two countries has now taken on a life of its own like the moral of a passion play. Events are set in motion that will bring a denounment before any reconciliation can occur.

One of the reasons I am a neo-isolationist is I would like to avoid what is coming. But I am a voice in the wilderness. Btw, Iran had better stay out of the western hemisphere or all bets are off.

the iraq oil war didn't affect the oil, the strike will mainly target installations and military

then the US will put a government in that is in its oil interests like it did in Iraq, meaning one that won't disrupt world market prices even though those countries don't sell directly to the US

Israel will most likely carry out the attack to ease the burden on the US

Sure the war affected Iraqi oil .. both production and refinery and shipping operations.. Iraq production fell to below 800,000 barrels a day and 1/3 of that had to be reinjected to save the reserves.. Plus there were well over 600 acts of sabotage. Iraq's oil production has not yet recovered to pre war levels.

If Israel attacks Iran.. the ppb will go to $150 or higher.

Iran created Hezbollah. It is an instrument of Iranian statecraft.

Hezbollah first emerged in response to the 1982 Israeli invasion of Lebanon, during the Lebanese civil war.

Iran began supporting Hezbollah around 1984.. but Iran wasn't fighting in the Lebanese Civil War.
