There was a period of time in Egypt- during the time of the monarchy - where some of the wealthiest landowners were Jewish, when some of the ministers were Jewish, where a " jewish " last name didn't even resonate as being " jewish"and even if it did, it wouldn't have mattered. Egyptians were Egyptians and not Jewish Egyptians or Muslim Egyptians or Christian Egyptians. In the social circles I mix in that is still the case.
