In the ongoing takeover of Egypt by islamists, a NEW CONSTITUION is going to be crafted by a "council" of 100 people chosen by the overwhelmingly islamist parliament. The Egyptian military is wary of this development and is attempting to insert itself into the council selectio process, in a move that is blatantly opposed by the islamist parliamentary majority: Islamists, poised to dominate Egypt's next parliament, appear to be on a collision course with the ruling military over the role of Islamic law in the country's future constitution. The Muslim Brotherhood's political arm, the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), on Thursday spurned a military-backed advisory council which would have a supervisory role in drafting the next constitution. "Any attempt to intervene in parliament's work in drafting the constitution would be a violation of the people's choice," the Islamist party's spokesman Ahmed Sobea told AFP. The next parliament is likely to be dominated by the FJP, which won 36 percent of votes in the first of three rounds of elections, followed by the ultraconservative Salafist Al-Nur party with at least 24 percent of the vote. ...Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, one of the ruling generals said the next parliament would not be representative enough of Egypt's 80-million people, including roughly eight million Coptic Christians, to draft a new charter. The military, the cabinet it appointed and its new advisory council would have a say in writing the constitution, he said. Political analyst Mostapha Kamel al-Sayyid said the Islamists appeared headed for a confrontation with the ruling generals, who took charge after president Hosni Mubarak's ouster in February and suspended the constitution. "As long as the Brotherhood doesn't accept a consensual formulation to agree criteria for the (constitutional panel), we are heading for conflict between parliament and the military," he said. http://news.yahoo.com/egypt-islamists-collision-course-military-140513519.html Looks like the bullcrap posted here by the resident self-proclaimed Walter Mitty Mid-East "experts" about the Egyptians adopting the "pre-Mubarek constitution" was just that:BULLCRAP. It's like being WRONG is the hobby of the always downed-by-the-facts-islamapologist-"geniuses". Not to mention it looks like Egypt is on the verge of ANOTHER civil war, and no one will be able to pretend that it's about "democracy", as it is obviously a fight to devolve Egypt into sharia. Mubarek not lookin' so bad right now....
If Egypt is going to have any kind of democratic rule, then the army, like Mubarak, has to leave government. Given the population profile of the country, the chances are that any government will be a Muslim one, just like the dictatorship they just got rid of. This one might be less of an American puppet than the last, but the appropriateness of the "Islamist" label is too soon to reasonably know.
"Too early to reasonbly know"? It's AFTER THE ELECTIONS already, and islamists control 0ver 60% of parliament.
Doesn't matter much to me; its their country and let them do what they want to do as long as they don't interfer with our affairs.
If Sharia Law is adopted it would be a Theocracy, not a Democracy. In a Democratic society laws can be changed to suit changing conditions like Gay Marriage. In a Theocracy Gays will be executed and that law can never change. That's the difference.
Excuse me? We just INTERFERED wth their affairs BIGTIME to unseat an American ALLY. Now, in Leftninny Doofithink, we must not "interfere" as our enemies take over. All of whch is beside the REAL POINT: all the "arab spring is about 'democracy' " idiots are proven more and more wrong with each passing day,as sharia becomes more and more uinevitable there. Woe to the women, gays, political dissidents, Christians.Jews, etc. when that happens.
Precisely. Funny , now that all the useful fools of islamist ambition have been proven MASSIVELY WRONG about the true nature of recent events in the Middle East, it's suddenly, "Sharia's not so bad"....pathetic.
Actually it is only 1/3 completed, but it looks bad for the liberal/communist coalition as the Muslim Brotherhood has already secured 40% and the ultra-conservative 25% of the initial precincts. And most of those were in the liberal enclaves of Cairo, Port Said and the Red Sea coast.
The outer regions will be far easier for the islamists to dominate through their traditional intimidation/murder, etc.
So that is worse than the domination through intimation and murder by their US supported dictator exactly how? Since the people are INSTALLING THESE leaders by a vote, perhaps they will catch on to do it the next time if the leaders are undesirable. Maybe they still will have bastards, but it will be THEIR bastards and it will be harder for the terrorists to blame all their problems on the West.
The incoming "boss" is our ENEMY; Mubarek was NOT, and repressed terrorism and sharia, which protected women, gays, etc. from sharia savagery. The islamists taking over will return Egypt to the 7th century, socially. If you cannot grasp how this is worse...so what?
