This thread is a response to another poll. That poll did not allow options the OP didnt like. This one allows all options.

    Original thread/poll - http://www.politicalforum.com/polit...scism-become-socially-acceptable-america.html

    Definitions of Fascism:
    http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/fascism
    http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/fascism
    http://www.thefreedictionary.com/fascism

    Expanded definition on Wikipedia:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fascism
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Definitions_of_fascism

So, using these definitions, when (if ever) do you think Fascism will become acceptable in the US?

As I've said before in the other thread, openly accepting the name fascist, never.

But, today the group of ideas that traditionally defended the fascist are defended by an important sector of the American poblation, so fascism is accepted.

And more if for example we take the definition of Umberto Eco.

I think that sector fits perfectly in that. Fear to peacefism, newspeak or orwellian language, selective populism, the cult to tradition. However there are some points that maybe aren't exact with that definition, I would say that there are many people that clearly have fascist ideas, yet. And many politicians hold that ideas, and that ideas are not seen really wrong.

We can see how many people defend an authoritarian government.

Thats all I want to clarify.

I understand that many people consider the US to be authoritarian, or headed in that direction. But that is not the same thing as openly embracing Fascism.

At least for now, there is no an opnely embracing Fascism. I can not say in the future.

But what I can affirm is that fascism never will be accepted with this name, fascism. But the ideas of the fascism under other name, it is another question, and I say that probably will be accepted more than now.

Good point - it won't be known as Fascism because Americans will make up a euphemism for it: eg: "Enhanced Democracy"

This is like the other ones; "Food insecurity" = hungry.

    "Economically insecure" = poor.

Then there is the Police corralling protesters into "freedom cages".

    "Enhanced interrogation techniques" = torture.

    "Rendition" = kidnapping.

I can't wait to see the next euphemism.

    It'll never be socially acceptable.

It'll always an unspoken part of business, though.

Oh no, and all this time you've been singing the praise of socialism. Guess you won't have much of an ideological base to use in posting here any more. May I suggest a symbol you may want to use going forward. Here.....$$$$ Capitalism!
