I thought only GOPpers from backward states were a bit looney, but the GOPpers in the New Hampshire Legislature support a bill to require all, new N.H. laws correspond with something in the Magna Carta of the 13th century! I cannot believe it! Even SNL couldn't come up with something that funny!
You do realize that English speaking countries base their laws on English Common Law and the Magna Carta?
The Magna Carta is a great document, but it's really really specific to England........13th century, Feudal England. Some people are apparently out of their mind here. The basis for laws in America is the U.S. Constitution.
Was there any new freedom in the Magna Carta that you object to? You do realize the document was in response to King John's excesses?
I don't think anything nefarious is going on here, but I can't say that I support this bill either. I think our constitution is sufficient, and we should focus on amendments where we feel something needs to change within the language of the constitution, rather than adopting documents from another place and time.
The age of the magna carta was the coolest ever. Nobles owning slaves, witches being burned, the rich eating huge meals while most people starved, no scientific avance, total power to the church... Everything all republicans want, WE WANT THE XIII CENTURY BACK
The Supreme Court of Indiana recently passed a law which would make it illegal to defend yourself from police making an illegal entry on your house. This is what the Magna Carta prevented. The US is sooooo screwed!
Thank god William Marshal first earl of Pembrook was there to serve the people for half a century. Without him the Magna carta not only would not have ever been made, but france would own England, and George Washington would never have been born (direct ancestor). The man was a (*)(*)(*)(*)ing legend, like William wallace+king arthur+ Winston Churchill+ Ronald Reagan+Roosevelt+Julius Caesar added together then multiplied by ten. His exploits and actions are definitely worth a read.
