The new lower unemployment rate is deceiving. It is not because of more people working but because less people are looking.

Once again Obama will lie and say he is creating jobs when in truth the percent working is dropping

The truth is irrelevant to liberals. They sift and pick through words and figures to find what they want, ignoring the level and actual truth.

Hmm, I wonder if the liberal media will report this statistic as enthusiastically as they are the wonderful 8.3% unemployment rate that we are supposed to be excited about? I wonder if they will report it at all?

That drop in the participation rate was a result of the annual statistical adjustment of the participation rate. It was a 12-month error correction, not a one-month change. And it reflects more than just people giving up on looking for work.

#1, it simply corrects errors in the population survey: basically, they were overcounting the labor force.

#2, it includes people who have chosen to drop out of the labor force for other reasons -- to be a stay-at-home parent, for instance, or to go back to school.

The employment-to-population ratio (the broadest measure, which compares the number of jobs to the overall population) actually rose in January.

We can (and should) still note that the participation rate is an important and often overlooked factor in the unemployment rate.

But the January numbers are good on every level:

    1. Much higher than expected job creation;
    2. A higher-than-expected drop in the unemployment rate;
    3. An increase in the jobs-to-population ratio (meaning job creation outpaced population growth).

All this in a month where the job number is usually low, thanks to seasonal holiday jobs being eliminated. The BLS uses seasonal adjustments to try to account for that, but January is still usually a bad month, job-report-wise. The fact that it was this good is thus doubly encouraging.

Another quarter million jobs created... And the republicans keep trying to find the bad news.

And the public sector cut 14,000, shrinking government. I am sure that somehow more private sector job creation, manufacturing job creation and government shrinking will be ignored by the right wingers.

You justify the fake 8.3%. I would expect nothing less. The truth is 243,000 jobs would not drop the rate. We are at a 30 year low for percent of country in participation.

Another words the country is giving up. The hope of Obama is no hope of finding a job

More people stop looking than those that find jobs and you think that is good news? I think it shows what a bad state this country is in under Obama

    From the OP link:

When did the steep decline start?

Yea, that is all Obama's fault.... riiiiight.

So during the Obama term the economy has turned around, GDP is growing, jobs are being created, unemployment is falling.

Looks to me Bush went into office with it at about 67.25% and left office with it at 65% a 2.25% drop... republicans president - ignored by the right wing. Obama took office at 65% and now it is 63.75%, a 1.25% drop... democratic president, must be a big deal. The entire chart has an expanded Y-axis to magnify what seems to be small changes. I'm sure that if you keep digging, you can keep finding things to "blame Obama" for, all of which started before his presidency.

Another hypocritical stance that Obama lovers have adopted that goes against progressivism. Shouldn't he be doing more to offer them amnesty? Oh wait, he is.

    You ignore the actual facts.

    From the unemployment report:
    http://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.nr0.htm

So population and labor force were higher than expected, but so were employment and (mildly) unemployment. And the drop in the participation rate was because the correction in population was concentrated in those under age 24 and over age 55 -- groups with historically low levels of participation, for reasons that have nothing to do with being "discouraged".

(Younger workers are much more likely to be in school, while older workers are much more likely to be retired or working part-time).

Then it could be said in all good conscience that what this Administration
    is attempting is EVIL.
I mean, how could it not be anything but just EVIL.
Evil as defined being > Bad or blameworthy by report;infamous.
Characterized by or indicating future misfortune;ominous

" The people never give up their liberties but under some delusion. "
    -- Edmund Burke

Obama's mission is to create such delusion.
Labored under the delusion that success was at hand.

I get it now.Just a matter of some slight revisions.
1.2 Million or a new monthly record ain't merely a revision.
it's a concerted manipulation, the thing of Banana Republics.
To not even bother to question the Lowest Fall out in the labor force
in 30 years is again ... Inanity

Nice deflection. Why not answer the question? Why celebrate Obama deporting illegals when you guys want illegals to become legal citizens?

Yes it does. You are telling me people 55 do not need a job? That is a justification to give Obama a pass. I am 58 and I need to woprk to pay my bills.

There are few jobs and millions unemployed. That means people that have been unemployed for years are discouraged.

It is not surprising Obama's failed policies are doing nothing to correct it.

The LFPR calculation includes the retired in the denominator.

News Flash!!! The Baby Boomers are retiring in droves and many of the positions are not being re-filled.
