I visited wiki leaks. All his supporters do not doubt he leaked it. I will agree with them. He leaked it. What did he leak?

His supporters say he leaked gun camera evidence of civilian deaths. OK I will agree with him he did.

In the first 5 minutes I visited wiki leakes I found:

1 helicopter delivery schedules of food and ammo to foward bases
2 a report why a helicopter was shot down when it investigated a target on the ground
3 locations where helicopters have communication problems
4 the response time to provide air support to an ambushed patrol

If you want to kill a helicopter. You now know where it will be and when to prepare an attack. You know where they will have trouble calling for help. You know how to lure it in. You also know when to run away before more help arrives to rescue them.

That was just in 5 minutes looking at .0000001% of the leaked documents.

    I say excute him slowly.

    And certainly before the verdict.

After all, what has been done with the abuse of free speech as permitted by the Constitution should also be done publicly before an audience and parting curtains, just to maintain civil American culture.

Execute those who allowed him access to information he wasn't supposed to have access to in the first place.

I seriously doubt that he'll be sentenced to death. But life at ADMAX in Florence Colorado without the possibility of parole is certainly a possibility.

He had a top secret clearance. He knew EXACTLY what he was and wasn't suppossed to do. The only "screw up" was letting one person have so much access to so much information.

Manning is a soldier, not a civilian. He won't be under control of the Justice Dept., he's under control of the U.S. Army - hence instead of going to ADMAX, Manning will be confined at the United States Disciplinary Barracks (USDB) at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

If I put my trust in you, and you abuse it, I should be executed?

    Interesting!

I do not know much about the situation in the USA.
Does the fact that Manning is gay affected his treatment in any way?

It shouldn't. Maybe there might be a little verbal abuse - some derogatory name calling, but I wouldn't expect more than that.

After Abu-Ghraib, the military is going to be real cautious about how prisoners are treated - especially someone as high-profile at Manning.

Give him a medal and treat him like a heero. IMO he did nothing wrong but expose something the world had a right to know.

It may have been treason but there are things that were covered up that had no right to be. He exposed that, and that is a good thing.

They were posted in another thread weeks ago. I would have to find it and dig it up, but there was something about an attack on innocent civilians that was covered up.

What gives Manning the authority to divulge any classified information?

His morals told him it was the right thing to do. Your morals might say to cover that stuff up but I disagree, and so did he.

My morals dictate that a nations secrets are not to be divluged without proper authority, not at the individual dicretion of a troubled individual. What Manning did was treasonous and treason during time of war can result in the death penalty.

Why would it have been so important than the murders of innocent civilians be covered up by the US government? The only reason I can think of is to protect itself from the onslaught of attacks which would come if such a thing were revealed.

Manning released much more information then regards that single incident. He released information regarding informants, troop strength, troop movements. He endangered quite a few people.

Have lives been lost yet as a direct result of his actions?

If they are going to execute him, its most likely going to occur only after/if he is convicted and then only after all his appeals are exhausted.

Contrary to your wishes, I believe that either he'll receive the lethal injection, hanging or firing squad. either way it'll be over rather quickly for him.

No one knows for certain just as no one can say with any degree of certainty that no lives were lost. Regardless, that's not the point. He didn't have the authority to release any classified information. He committed treason.

A jury might be swayed by the cover ups of innocents being killed. The decision is up to them and we might be surprised by it.
