When asked about why the Democrats have not passed a budget in over 1000 days he blamed it on the Republicans in congress stating that as long as it takes 60 votes the Republicans are blocking the Democrats from passing a budget. According to Dan Pirino of Fox and Jake Trapper of ABC that is a flat out lie. It only takes 51 votes to pass spending bills. And the CoS is the former head of OMB so he knows. "As President Obama prepares to unveil his FY2013 budget Monday, White House chief of staff Jack Lew this morning was asked by CNN to defend the Senate’s refusal to pass a budget in more than 1,000 days. “You can’t pass a budget in the Senate of the United States without 60 votes and you can’t get 60 votes without bipartisan support,” Lew said. “So unless… unless Republicans are willing to work with Democrats in the Senate, [Majority Leader] Harry Reid is not going to be able to get a budget passed.” That’s not accurate. The dems don't want to vote on it without republican support of some kind, because when it all falls apart the dems will have to take the whole blame.
Why didn't they bring up the fact that the first 2 years the dems had the votes to pass a budget, but never did? This is the first year where the GOP has had the majority in the house.
They have the 51 votes to pass it, they just don't. Reasons are two fold. 1. They would have to shoulder all the blame for the budget. 2. They would be forced to well.....budget.
And the GOP House HAS passed the spending bills and HAS passed jobs bills and the Democrats won't even consider them.

I love it when people just read propaganda and just BELIEVE it... Though this man did lie, it's not that easy... Budgets are NOT bills... They are "suggestions" from everyone (agencies/departments) of what they need and what they can spend.. All that is needed is a majority! Now... you may continue being propaganda sheep... Good day...
He lied and it is easy, the Budget resolution is not a spending bill and it can't be filibustered. The Democrats in the Senate have not passed a Budget in over 1000 days and Lew was on three shows yesterday claiming it was because of a 60 vote requirement thus it was the REPUBLICANS who are at fault. A flat out lie that millions will believe.
