Rev. Jackson: Calling Obama the 'food stamp president' not an insult

    Posted 2/27/12 9:02 a.m.
    WLS Radio's Dave Stewart reports

CHICAGO (WLS) - When Newt Gingrich calls Barack Obama the best food stamp president in history, he intends it as an insult, but to the Reverend Jesse Jackson, it's not such a bad thing to be called.

Gingrich routinely on the campaign trail refers to Obama as the Food Stamp president, claiming that there has been a major expansion of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, and that the program is rife with abuses.
Rev. Jackson used his regular Saturday morning service at the Rainbow PUSH headquarters on the South Side this weekend to put a different spin in Gingrich's remarks. Jackson said, "It's an honor to be a food stamp president." Speaking to his congregation, Rev. Jackson listed the benefits of the program, which has grown some sixty-one percent over the past four years. About forty-six million people now receive food assistance,

In his remarks, Rev. Jackson went on to say, "Food stamps feed the hungry. Food stamps save the children. Food stamps help the farmer. Food stamps help the truck driver. Food stamps help the warehouse. Food stamps help the store. Food stamps hire people and feed people. Food stamps save people from starvation and malnutrition."

In remarks directed at Gingrich's characterization of President Obama, Rev. Jackson said,” Whenever you attack feeding the hungry, you undermine the moral authority of our faith."

Gingrich has claimed that recipients are using the debit cards from the program for other purchases, even travel to Hawaii, and that millionaires are using SNAP cards. Fact-finding organizations dispute those claims. The Government Accountability Office found a fraud rate of lower than four percent in the program. The U.S. Agriculture Department reports the average gross monthly income per food stamp household is $731; the average net income is $336. SNAP cards can only be used for food.

Hey, Jesse, besides your flock, the American people want jobs not handouts. Please make a note of it. Obama has been an abject failure, and he is getting fired soon.

"Y'all listen to Rev. Jesse, now children. Go ahead and snap them chains on your ankles and wrists. Make 'em real tight now. We don't want y'all slipping out and losing your way. Just fall in line and we'll take real good care of y'all!
    Yassir....real good care."

The new face of food stamps: working-age Americans
Jan 26,`14 WASHINGTON (AP) -- In a first, working-age people now make up the majority in U.S. households that rely on food stamps - a switch from a few years ago, when children and the elderly were the main recipients.

3 people for every job opening means food stamps are needed (for now). And finishing out ones second term is pretty much the opposite of being fired.

That said, I do believe the program needs modification. One should never be able to spend TARP funds on anything other then basic needs. Food/rent/bills/transportation. That's it. You shouldn't be able to just take it out of any ATM either.

Barack Obama is accurately "The Food Stamp President".

It's a simple fact. Reading anymore into it than that is just left wing thought/speech control to attack those that would voice the truth.

Food stamps are less offensive to me than perpetual long term unemployment. Put them on welfare and be done with it.
