Romney electable? Good question. I told mom he'd be the nominee months ago and pose a serious threat to Obama. Now I'm much less confident in his candidacy.
It's not just his constant gaffes - which will undoubtedly be transformed into soundbites. It's that Santorum has forced Romney to continue moving further and further to The Right and away from The Center - the votes which decide the election.
The GOP should be discussing one thing only: The Economy (including unemployment). Instead, they are allowing themselves to be distracted by social issues and instead of rolling around them and going back to the economy, Santorum is FOCUSING on these issues. IDIOT!!! Obama's approval with women has shot up TEN points in the last three weeks, thanks to this whackjobbery. According to Gallup (who leans Right), Obama has lost nothing with Catholics.
Where Obama was tied with Romney on RCP three months ago, he now leads by 7+ points in the aggregate of all polls. By the time Romney is confirmed, severe damage will have been done.
If I were advising Obama, I would tell him to throw out a new red herring concerning Affirmative Action, SB1070 or something along those lines. Bait the GOP to run to the Extreme Right again and guarantee Obama the minority vote - which is expected to break all records at 30%+ in the 2012 popular vote - and again, keeping them talking about something OTHER THAN unemployment and the economy.
Obama may or may not be a good president but Axelrod and Plouffe are as skilled a political machine as I have ever seen, and their product (Obama) is good at following their advice.
Romney's advisors seem to pale in comparison. They seem to be completely reactive instead of proactive. In tennis, this is called "Letting the other player dictate play".
If Romney is going to have a realistic shot in the General Election, he can't wait until after the GOP Convention to begin dictating play. By then it will be too late - especially if the economy continues on even a mildly positive trend.

Okay, I'm open-minded. Support your position and of course, objectivity and specifics are more appreciated than the usual bumper sticker banter etc... I look forward to a well-reasoned reply!

    Quote..

" It's not just his constant gaffes "

    which gaffes.. :)

The ones that MNBC makes up..or the ones Obama says every day ? 8)

Santorum has made more gaffes in the last 2 weeks than Romney has in 20 years..

Why doesn't someone connect his 6 properties and AUDI to the average guy ?
About his college education and his kids to the snob remark ?
    JFK ..Really ?

Making religious issues the main theme now ?

Ok ..Santorum flipped on abortion in 1995.. for political reasons...
He flipped on title 10 in less than a month..
He flipped on earmarks..the bridge to no where..
    The FAKE ?
yes..Santorum is well known among his peers..

    Paul was there.

If the economy stays awful, Romney can definitely win. If the economy improves a bit, Romney doesn't have the personality to win. Judging by Romney's campaign in the primaries, President Obama IS going to be the target of a huge number of negative attack ads run a huge number of times.

One of the so called weaknesses of Romney was said to be his lack of fight and tactics defending..

I'd say he's doing all right on both..

The problem is that the economy is not complying with the wishes of the GOP. My personal protfolio looks better than I think it has ever been. Ever! Same with pensions, mutuals etc... FOX is talking about how unemployment is on a 20 month positive trend and I have personal evidence to support this. The only people stating otherwise, are those who wantthings to be bad because of their political agenda. The GDP is up and even manufacturing is on the rise.
If Romney is going to have any chance at all, he as got to quit following the lead of his opponents and implement a completely new strategy.

I think Romney is electable if he embraces his true identity, i.e., a solid center-right moderate with loads of executive experience. He needs to stop pandering to the hardcore conservatives because they're not going to vote for him in the primaries anyway. If Romney can just find his center, I think he'd be in a good position to beat Obama.

Ron Paul on the ticket, Barrack Obama loses.

Ron Paul not on the ticket, Barrack Obama wins.

Gaffes? You mean like 57 states?

Obama's gaffes are more serious. Gaffes like embracing the idea that expensive gasoline is good for the economy.

Support for my position? No problem.

Obama's record over the last four years makes it difficult to envision ANYONE worse than Obama. Enormous unemployment. Skyrocketing energy costs. Hyperinflation due to runaway printing of money. Federal spending consuming over a quarter of GDP. An explosion of regulatory constraints on a shaky economy: where does "gaffe" end and "collossal blunder" begin?

    Yes, he is electable,because
Republicans realize he is far better than Obama. But they had better get off their asses and vote in November.

I'm impressed with Romneys' flip-flops ... yesterdays flip-flop on Big Conservative Govts.' need to peer into womens' wombs took less than an hour ...

Face it, Willards' only Prez ambition is the same neo-conservative agenda since Reagan ... get a tax-break for himself and pass on the neocon catastrophic debts and deficits to the 99% ...

You had me agreeing with you up to the point of considering BO for a 2nd term. Do you really want to allow him another 4 years of pushing us into a socialist style government?

That is actually the main point I was making. Romney is letting his opponents dictate play and pull him so far to The Right, that he's driving the votes that count directly into the Obama camp.

Well then Obama is re-elected. There is no way in hell today's GOP is going to let RP anywhere near the ticket.

I didn't say I want him or don't want him in the OP. I was just doing an analysis of what Romney is doing vs. what he should be doing. He is allowing himself to be dragged into all the divsersionary issues instead of staying focused on his message. However, between ANYONE the GOP is offering this year and Obama, I will pick Obama.

Nah, Riseagainst. I'm an Independent and I can prove it. You've Cut & Run from this same little challenge again and again because all mindless drones claim that anyone who disagrees with them on anything - must be a shill! Whereas people with even a modicum of political sophistication base Lib, Dem, Conserv & Repub on the political opinions and views of the person.
That's why you will avoid, dodge, change the subject or Cut & Run from the following Yes or No Questions:

    1. Is your definition a Dem, Repub, Conserv, Lib, Indie etc... based on their overall political opinions or just whether they disagree with you?
    2. Would a Liberal or Democrat be generally have the following opinions: ObamaCare sucks, Global Warming is not proven, Gun ownership is a good thing, Unions often abuse their power and have contributed to our current problems, it's okay to profile Muslims and people from the ME in air travel...

I could go on but you're already so spanked, you won't address those directly.
I have many Liberal Views (mostly on social issues) and many Conservative views! But I don't get them sppon fed to me from the Libertarian, Dem or Repub pamphlets. That's called being an Independent!
    Glad I could help! I'm a helper. It's what I do. I help. :floating:

Oh, well, it doesn't show the Multi-Trillion Dollar Bush-neocon TARP & Re-invesment Act to prevent the complete U.S. economic collapse or Bush Great Depression ... passed on to Obama either ...

One other piece of evidence? I have voted for a Republican for president more times than I have a Dem.
LOL! Nah, you're just a mindless drone who has been indoctrinated to believe that anyone who doesn't march in step on every issue with you, "must be a Democrat".
So you can try to squirm around the fact that my stance on issues is not in lock-step the way that little robots like you are but you're owned. Fun to watch you try to avoid the obvious though!

The Democratic Party has recently taken a sharp turn to the left. If you still support them you are WITH them. You accept their entire package. Shill.

LOL! Thank you for proving my point! Ya see, not everyone is a whackjob! Some people agree with the Republicans on some issues, the Dems on others and even Ron Paul on others. Then we decide for ourselves who offers the best overall choice.
Whereas whackjobs have the mentality that people must be like little robots. If someone votes Republican, that must mean they agree with Republicans on everything! Same with Dem or Libertarian.
So you've stated you're voting Republican. That means you agree that we should increase the deficit as proposed by both Romney and Santorum?
Of course I dont' believe that. I'm not a whackjob :)
