Nothing pumps me up more than having a respected conservative journalist agree with me. I can say George Will agrees with me rather than I agree with him because for more than a year I’ve been saying focus on Congress. More of my comments follow this brief article:

George Will: Take Congress, not W.H.

Columnist George Will says the 2012 presidential race looks like it might be a lost cause for Republicans and believes that the primary goal of conservatives should be to retain control of the House and win the Senate so Congress can restrain President Barack Obama while the GOP grooms its talent for 2016.

“Romney and Rick Santorum … are conservatives, although of strikingly different stripes. Neither, however, seems likely to be elected … If either is nominated, conservatives should vote for him,” Will writes in his upcoming Sunday column, obtained in advance by POLITICO Playbook by Mike Allen.

However, Will argues, that control of both house of Congress is more attainable and more important.

“[T]here would come a point when … conservatives turn their energies to a goal much more attainable than … electing Romney or Santorum president. It is the goal of retaining control of the House and winning control of the Senate… [C]onservatives this year should have as their primary goal making sure Republicans wield all the gavels in Congress in 2013,” writes Will.

Will argues that a Republican-controlled Congress would be able to strongly oppose the president’s agenda.

“If Republicans do, their committee majorities will serve as fine-mesh filters, removing President Obama’s initiatives from the stream of legislation … [A] re-elected Obama — a lame duck at noon next Jan. 20 — would have a substantially reduced capacity to do harm,” he says.

Will asserts that the GOP has a group of capable candidates waiting in the wings.

“From Louisiana’s Gov. Bobby Jindal to Wisconsin’s Rep. Paul Ryan, Republicans have a rising generation of potential 2016 candidates. … [T]he presidency is not everything, and there will be another election in the next year divisible by four,” he says.

Fellow conservative columnist William Kristol, editor of the Weekly Standard, objected strongly to Will’s piece in his own article Friday.

“Rarely has an intelligent man been so wrong,” Kristol wrote. “By every objective measure, the GOP has a reasonable chance to defeat President Obama — probably between 1-in-3 and 1-in-2. Given this opportunity, it would be crazy not to do everything one can to effectuate an outcome so devoutly to be desired…Perhaps always, but certainly in 2012—there is no substitute for victory.”

“Obamacare can’t be reversed from Congress. Iran can’t be denied nuclear weapons by Congress. The debt crisis can’t be fundamentally addressed by Congress. The military can’t be protected from being hollowed out by Congress. Judges can’t be appointed by Congress,” he added.

Not only can conservatives take control of Congress in this election they have an opportunity to replace at least two RINO, Senators Olympia Snowe and Richard Lugar, with real conservatives.

Also, once Congress stops Hussein in his tracks, a superduper majority is guarantied in the midterms. The parasite class are the only ones screaming the Congress is not doing enough. That’s doublespeak for not doing enough to implement a totalitarian Socialist theocracy.

And I can’t understand what William Kristol meant by this:

Congress can repeal Hillarycare II. Every Democrat who refuses to vote to override Hussein’s veto will pay the price in the midterms.

Nobody is going to stop an oil-rich country like Iran from going nuclear so long as North Korea, Russia, and China sell nuclear technology and materials to the ayatollahs. The real challenge is what to do after Iran has nuclear WMD? It will all come down to retaliation. Can anyone say with certainty how Romney/Gingrich/Santorum stand on that score? The country knows how the current crop of senators feel about it. EVERY DEMOCRAT & EIGHT RINO voted to reduce America’s retaliatory arsenal by ratifying the New START Treaty.

Yes it can. Start by approaching the problem differently. Instead of letting Beltway wise guys define the problem do something else to address the debt crisis. Shutting down the Federal Reserve would be a good start. Repealing the XVI Amendment would be even better. So long as the crooks continue speaking in the same economic double-talk the country will get the same results. That’s one of the reasons I do not trust Romney. “I’ll do this and I’ll do that because I have experience.” amounts to the same economic crapola that got the country to where it is at now.

Congress, not the president, controls the Defense budget. It is only a matter of standing up to the president when he tries to gut the military even further. Incidentally, what the hell did the current crop of senators think they were getting when they confirmed Hussein’s man Leon Panetta —— a man with a communist background.

The senate can refuse to confirm any of Hussein’s nominees to the federal bench.

Don’t get me wrong here. I’d like nothing better than to see Hussein gone. The problem is Romney/Santorum/Gingrich. See this thread for my reasoning:

Why is Will so pessimistic??? oboobma hasnt done a ------- thing right. If the Republican candidate runs a half-decent campaign, he should win the election.
