Female Veterans Call For Military Radio Channel To Drop Rush Limbaugh After 'Slut' Remark

    By Max J. Rosenthal | HuffPost | 03/05/12 02:54 PM ET

“WASHINGTON - Already facing the loss of numerous advertisers over his derogatory remarks about Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke, Rush Limbaugh may soon see his show dropped from the radio stations of the U.S. military.

A group of female military veterans issued a statement on Monday calling for Limbaugh's show to be pulled from the airwaves of the American Forces Network. AFN is a government-run media service that provides television and
radio programming to American service members overseas.

"When many of our female troops use birth control, for Limbaugh to say they are 'sluts' and 'prostitutes' is beyond the pale," the women wrote. "It isn't just disrespectful to our women serving our country, but it's language that goes against everything that makes our military work."

The statement was issued through VoteVets, a progressive veterans organization. Miranda Norman, a veteran of the Oklahoma National Guard who now advises VoteVets, told The Huffington Post that the comments were "offensive" to women in the military and "downplays the role that we serve." She argued that birth control can be vital to women in uniform, saying "women in the military use contraception when they're deployed to make smart decisions for their family, to make smart decisions about being a soldier."

Norman, along with three other women, stressed that while she respected Limbaugh's right to free speech, she found his comments inappropriate for the government-run channel. "We swore to uphold our Constitution, including the freedom of speech, and would not take that away from anyone - even Limbaugh," the group wrote in the statement. "But that does not mean AFN should broadcast him. In fact, it shouldn't.

Last week, Limbaugh referred to Sandra Fluke, a third-year law student at Georgetown, as a "slut" and "prostitute" after she was denied the right to testify in favor of birth control access at a congressional hearing.

On Saturday, Limbaugh issued an apology to Fluke, saying that he "chose the wrong words" and "did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke." On his Monday show, while admitting that the remarks were "uncalled for," he said that his attacks were liberal tactics and regretted that he "descended to their level."

But on "The View" Monday morning, Fluke questioned the sincerity of Limbaugh's apology.

"I don't think that a statement like this, issued saying that his choice of words was not the best, changes anything," she said on the show. ‘Especially when that statement is issued when he's under significant pressure from his sponsors, who have begun to pull support from his show.’ "

    .......

Things keep rolling along for old Rushbo as now service women want the Pentagon to stop airing his show for the U.S. military for his offensive remarks concerning a young law student who was denied giving a speech on family planning before an all male republican commission. After Limbaugh called her a “slut” and a “prostitute”...he said that if he was going to have to pay for her birth control pills, “he wanted a porn flick so he could watch.”

This latest hysterical outburst by 4 times married LImbaugh showed a supreme lack of respect for women in general...and even more for his demeaning nouns for an absolute stranger...a young law student who just wanted at least one female to be heard by the all male commission who had met to discuss female issues including birth control and family planning.

To have a flagrant misogynist, a hater of women, have his TV and radio shows broadcast to soldiers over seas some of which are female, is against anything the military should stand for, and Limbaugh’s shows should be cancelled immediately because they are detrimental to the equality of women in our military services. Female troops have enough to put up with in the service at home and abroad with rapes, assaults, than to have to listen to Rush Limbaugh’s trash talk. After all, he has to get back at all those exwives that dumped him because of his alleged sexual preferences.

Limbaugh should be taken totally off the air; he has been skirting the freedom of speech clause for too many years. His work resume’ has him being fired from many jobs in Florida...now the people of America should fire Rush Limbaugh.

ROFL! All the "Progressive" attacks are out... how funny. I can't count how many times Liberals have tried to get Rush dropped from Military Radio.

Just more Democrat operatives trying to deflect attention from Obama's disastrous record. Completely unworthy of discussion.

    ........

C'mon, we all know Limbaugh's ratings have gone way down in recent years...only the religious far-right radicals, white supremacists, and woman haters listen to him anymore.

You might be one of them....

So now calling someone a slut equates to hating all women? That's a bit of a strech. :nerd:

way2convey: I see you ae having trouble with your reading comprehension again...
and your own little display of misogyny...:D

Miranda Norman is a veteran and now works with an organization called VoteVets which concerns itself with women in the military and their needs..and she feels that Limbaugh's terse words for women that take birth control pills was detrimental and discriminating against female troops. Further that it casts an unfavorable pall over any female soldier that takes BC pills, casting her as a "slut' or a "prostitute." Why should any female take that kind of misogynistic hate speech from a shock-jock?

President Obama is now speaking about Rush Limbaugh in response to a question. He is saying that any decent person would be offended by the language used...that it attacks women, and that insulting language should not be in public discourse.

    Not News:...Really?

I doubt he'll get pulled. A few women squawking won't overwhelm the number of supporters he does have who listen to AFN.

    .....

First...your knee jerk reaction is noted...:D

When a four times married woman-hater who viciously verbally attacks a perfect stranger who is a young law student, on air without her being present, and libels himself doing it, just because she wanted to address an all male republican committee which was meeting to discuss womens medical needs. you know he is having trouble with women. To intimate that all women who take birth control pills are "sluts"... "prostitutes" and 'should takes videos while having sex for him to watch' is disgusting and demeaning to women.

Why aren't you guys standing up for your wives, girl-friends, or your late-night-call-ups in this matter? Men should be primary objectors to Limbaugh's cynical and rabid retorts concerning women.

As a veteran I think she's entitled to her opinion, but I doubt anything will come of it.

Who knows maybe the feminazi's can bully their way into banning him from the many who do listen to him.

So, we are censoring what programs soldiers may listen to?
Its interesting, esp when following the debates about rights, women's rights, the DEMAND that everyone stays out of everyone's business, yet here we go again with censorship.
    Hypocrisy is alive and well.

If you don't understand demeaning hate speech which was directed toward a perfect stranger who was not present during the rabid hate-monger's continued speech giving caustic, disgusting characterizations concerning women, then you will never understand anything except what you also perceive women to be.

If you are a male, I sincerely hope you do not have a wife..or daughters.

If you are a female, you should be appalled by Limbaugh's sexual implications of women who take birth control pills, and his direct and disgusting attack on a college student.

I don't like Rush at all, but why try to boot him? Let him say whatever he wants, if people don't like it....they won't tune in. Strong arming someone off the air just because you don't agree with him is pretty unamerican, imo

You are kidding me, right? Do you call a shock jock's rabid speech concerning a woman who dared to speak her mind concerning women's rights, calling her a "slut" "prostitute" and wanting videos of the woman having sex so "he could watch"...could then have a deleterious effect on soldiers...some of whom are female?

The army's treatment of women and female soldiers is disturbing at best and is an ongoing nasty little secret concerning rapes, assaults, and murders of females who are in the army or work at government jobs.

Apparently you have never heard the word..FIRED..it is not censorship but a foul mouthed 4 times married woman-hater getting fired for defaming all women that seek birth control pills....even female soldiers.

Soldiers, even though they are considered to be GI, should have the freedom to choose to listen to the freedom of speech they protect with their lives.
    Yes, I am very serious.

My wife, a Veteran, doesn't think it's a big deal. She knows Fluke was a plant, and that what Rush said, poorly chosen words though they were, are being taken out of context.
