The same week they choose Santorum as their representative (lol), they pull this crap. "Members of the University of Southern Mississippi band chanted racist taunts at a hispanic Kansas State player during the schools' NCAA tournament game on Thursday. After point guard Angel Rodriguez was fouled late in the first half of the second-round game, a few band members showered the freshman with cries of "where's your green card?" Listen carefully to the crowd noise, particularly around the :08 mark of this clip: The chant and those who participated don't warrant any civilized dialogue. Both are an embarrassment to the university. Southern Miss president Martha Saunders quickly apologized for the incident. "We deeply regret the remarks made by a few students at today's game," she wrote in a statement issued two hours after the game. "The words of these individuals do not represent the sentiments of our pep band, athletic department or university. We apologize to Mr. Rodriquez (sic) and will take quick and appropriate disciplinary action against the students involved in this isolated incident." Rodriguez was spelled incorrectly in the original draft. As if things could get any more ignorant, the basis for the band's racism was itself misguided. Rodriguez was born in Puerto Rico, a commonwealth of the United States. Even if he hadn't grown up in Miami and starred for a high school basketball team in that city, he'd still be an American citizen and have no need for a green card. Ignorant ignorance; it's the best kind." http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaab...chants-where-green-card-puerto-205326741.html
You left out the last line in your cut & paste OP... and it's definitely the best line in the story about RODRIGUEZ and how they'd spelled RODRIGUEZ wrong in the original draft... and how a few spectators yelled out to RODRIGUEZ, "Where's your greencard?" Last line: Ya can't make this (*)(*)(*)(*) up.
Didn't see that line. Regardless, does it excuse the students? Oh, that's right, it's you: It probably does excuse the students.
ROFLMAO... they've fixed it. But not before I captured their no doubt tongue-in-cheek mistake. Luv it. Good one, Yahoo.
Apparently students aren't the only persons in Mississippi concerned about Hispanics. I know, slightly off topic, but thought you might want to read it Dave. Mississippi Lawmakers Pass Anti-Illegal Immigration Law
I don't think this is exclusive to Mississippi. Have you ever been to a Raiders game?...or a Knicks game?...I've heard things that would make 1%er bikers blush
i hate it.. i just started a blog called progressive mississippi.. and my subtitle is "yes there is a progressive in mississippi" i have to do something... only 11% of mississippi white people voted for obama in 2012
Since you blame the entire state of Mississippi for the actions of a few students, you are a bigot too.
LOL! Two people engaged in barely audible routine basketball trash talk/heckling and it got a story on Yahoo. Seriously guys, was it a slow news day?
