Several threads have been started by our conservative friends in the past citing Gallup for the unemployment number, arguing that while Govt unemployment numbers are manipulated or fixed, Gallup is reliable.

They will be interested to know that Gallup today posted the unemployment rate at 8.1%, lower than the Govt number of 8.2%, and the lowest it has been since Gallup started running an unemployment poll in early 2010.

Unlike the commonly referred to unemployment rate produced by the Govt, the Gallup poll is not seasonally adjusted.

A sign that the economy is continue to show the surprising resilience it has demonstrated over the past several months?

And bad news for the Republicans, which is why I am sure we will see several of them attacking this information.

Well, at least the Dow is down 47 points so far today. I'm sure will be along soon to point that out and claim it's a trend.

Not sure .1 is gonna be enough to save Barack... according to today's Rasmussen poll:

But by all means, cling to the 8.1. Democrats have got so little to celebrate these days... we won't take this one away from you.

Yes, the "economy" is quite resilient, improving in spite of, and not because of, everything Obama and the Democrats have done.

Anyway, at this rate, we'll be back to 4-5% unemployment around 2016-2017. Be patient America!

According to the conservative "experts" here, it is completely Obama's responsibility.

yet the employment to population ration is at 58.5, down .1 since February. Wonder how those new college grads will feel about this in June?

Just for reference when Obama took office it was 60.3

Didn't you get the memo Irie? When the economy, including the stock market, is doing bad its Obama's fault. When it's doing good, it has nothing to do with Obama.

It's all part of their plan to fall down the ODS rabbit hole and into an alternate reality apparently.

That number doesn't include the people who've given up on looking for work.
Should look at numbers that show number of people not working not number of people on unemployment.

I haven't seen a poll, but my guess is many will be feeling a lot better about it than they were a couple years ago.

The slow growth? Yup, mostly his responsibility. That's what big government does, it slows down growth.

If you want to know what a successful recovery looks like, re: Harding (1920-1921) and Reagan (1981-1982).

I still am not sure what growth you are referring to. All I have seen since Obama took offices is a drop in employment in 09 and then stagnation for 10, 11, qnd looks like 12

And look Ma, not Stimulus spending!!

Isn't it a bit ironic that the minority of economists in 2008 that said if the US government did nothing that the economy would begin it's actual recovery in 2012. Over roughly two trillion dollars in government spending and tax cuts which really didn't do anything and now the economy is actually showing serious signs of recover after all of that wasteful borrowing and spending.

Or better yet, Clinton. Longest post war expansion, greatest number of jobs created, best stock market performance, lowest unemployment rate, lowest poverty levels, etc.

And this was after his big tax increase that our conservative friends told us would wreck the economy.

They were completely wrong then. One has to wonder just how many times people will believe them. There's an old saying in Tennessee ...
