Yes the Right-Wing Christian Taliban / Jihadist fanatics want your libido eyeballed by Big Conservative Govt. Buncha perverts. Although its his magazine, Playboy founder Hugh Hefner doesnt frequently take to its pages to wax poetic about one thing or another. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0412/75472.html In the May issue, however, Hefner pens a rare, full-page editorial on an unsurprising topic: Sex. This time, its political, however. In The War Against Sex, Hefner blasts repressed conservatives who he says are pounding on Americas bedroom door. For months I have watched the rhetoric building, writes Hefner. Last October, in an interview with an evangelical blogger, Rick Santorum promised to defund birth control on the grounds that contraception is a license to do things in a sexual realm that is counter to how things are supposed to be. Ron Paul was no better, believing that the birth control pill did not cause immorality but that immorality creates the problem of wanting to use the pill. Mitt Romney vowed to see a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage and to overturn Roe v. Wade. Hefner continues to site a history of efforts against sexual liberty and some of his successful attempts to defeat them. All these years later I hear echoes of this same ignorance espoused by a new crop of self-appointed arbiters who are determined to oversee our morality. I heard it when Santorum backer Foster Friess said, Back in my days, [women] used Bayer aspirin for contraceptives, implying that if women held an aspirin between their legs, they wouldnt open them. I heard it when I learned about proposed anit-abortion legislation in Kansas that would protect doctors who conceal vital medical information from pregnant women. And I heard it when Rush Limbaugh called a Georgetown University law student a slut and a prostitute after she testified on Capitol Hill about allowing employers to avoid providing contraception for religious reasons. 50 years of sexual freedom vanished in a sound bite. Hefner concludes that, If these zealots have their way, our hard-won sexual liberation womens rights, reproductive rights and rights to privacy lie in peril. We wont let that happen. Welcome to the new sexual revolution.
Using the ULTRA-CREEPY, OCTAGENARIAN, TAKING VIAGRA TO HELP PRESSURE 19 year olds to have SEX with him, FOR MONEY,OR "CAREER", CONTROL FREAK WEIRDO as your spokeperson about "sex", to attack people who , typically, are heterosexual, enjoy sex WITH THEIR SPOUSES (gassp!!! ),and are SO much more HEALTHY, SEXUALLY, than the nuerotic, drug-soaked, FREAK SHOW LEFT......is just DAMMMMMMMMMMN funny. Thanks for the laughs...
Republicans like Sex as well here are there rules: 1. Only in acceptable position defined by David Vitter. 2. Only with who they say as defined by Richard Curtis 3. Only for procreation defined by Michelle Bachmann 4. For age recomendations see Mark Foley 5. For any question on the Sanctity of Marriage see Jeff Miller. Please forward all questions about these rules to John Ensign!
Yeah... Hugh is the guy we should be taking advice on women's rights from. ... and the Liberals wanted to make a big deal out of polygamy and Mormons which has been against their religion for over 100 years. hypocrites?
How original by Hefner, "The war on sex". Do leftists have any originality. Geez, instead of repeating the same leftist mantra of "The War On...whatever the left thinks of to scaremonger people with", try something new Hefner, like "Sex held hostage by the right" or whatever. Hefner, the originator of the "The War On Women" by exploiting them for his own financial gain. Oh, the irony.
Sex is definitely a topic that right wingers often betray their small government message on. Libertarians are much more consistent about minding their own business.
Leave it to one of our resident leftists to use Hugh Hefner as the exemplar of correct attitudes concerning sex. According to Hef, women are nothing but objects to be used and then discarded. He has done it over and over again with a string of young, bimbos.
No, women brought women the right to vote. There was no concept of "liberalism" then. Women like Alice Paul didn't consider themselves liberals. They were freedom fighters. They went on hunger strikes, were jailed...they kicked ass.
They called themselves progressives. That's a term associated with the left today and apparently scorned by the right.
I call myself a progressive at times...sometimes tribalist...sometimes anarchist, but "liberal" to me is synonymous in dialog with Democrats. And honestly, I wouldn't want to be seen hanging with that crowd. Alice Paul called herself a suffragette.
The modern American conception of liberal does seem a bit different from what it has been historically. Progressives were the people who pushed for abolition and women's suffrage. For the most part, they supported expanding the rights of the public, although they did unfortunately support Prohibition (a definite case of restricting rights).
My thoughts exactly. This is from a lefty who thinks Republicans have a war on women, but respects Hefner??? Oh, the irony is rich.
why do conservatives always claim sex is immoral yet they're always the first ones to break their own rules..?? same with catholic priests and boy scout leaders..
