He believes truth comes from gazing into a stovepipe hat. And that Mormons can somehow baptise Jews without their knowing it.

Just ask yourself. Do you want someone so deluded to lead the US of A?

Apparently many Republicans will vote for anything. They would vote for someone who believes candyfloss (cotton candy in US speak) is divine as long as it promises to reduce government expenditure.

    Why do they do it?

It is a question that confuses even the Russians. And it is a serious question that argues against the sanity of half of Americans.

    Why do they do it?

You should ask all the people that voted for Obama in 2008. They have an idea of why people vote for a lunatic.

And tell me, who has Obama tried to baptise into a weird religious sect?

You're looking at the nature of religion. Mormonism isn't anymore absurd than the more popular religions.

They're all equally unlikely, but that doesn't stop us or most countries from electing religious people.

True. Every moron needs some religious belief. It is a belief that somehow they will be "saved" from their moronism.

    But stovepipe hats?

    Are Americans THAT absurd?

It's no more absurd than holy grails, burning bushes, meteorites, or walls with writing on them.

The problem with religion is that it's reality by consensus, which means more obscure beliefs will seem more absurd, but logically, they really don't rank as any more or less improbable.

I suppose any religion that encourages its members to bang their heads against brick walls and street pavements or substitute a pope for a stovepipe hat is equally ridiculous. Their antics show just how ridiculous they are.

But should any of these lunatics be allowed to run a nation of 300+ million people?

Romneys religion has never been an issue in his politics. So I cant share your fear about it defining him. ( I know you don't really "fear" anything, but bear with me.) Romney scares me because he is very intelligent and very affluent and has no ability to understand the hardships of average citizens. That and the fact that he is a political machine. He will promote the banking and corporate agenda with no empathy for those who are damaged. To be fair Obama is not much better, much of his resistance to those forces is only made possible because of political necessity. He owes to counter groups and can lose their support. He will never be chosen by the real elite as a leader because of choices he has made, so he bends to unions and civil rights groups, even while he knows they are doomed. His time is short, at most another four years or so, and he will play the part he is cast in.

Romney is only the problem Americans make of him. And it seems that many do.

    As you say:

Mormon religion is more rational than socialism, so, in that regard, he's got Obama beat by a mile.

Socialists don't get their policies out of stovepipe or papal hats.

    Why is that?

Socialist ideology has killed millions and destroyed trillions in private wealth. I'll take the stovepipe hat.

I live around a Mormon dominated community. I don't believe in their religion and have to wonder how so many people around the world can believe in it. But I know many Mormons and they are good decent people who are a credit to their community and that is the only thing important.

Our USSC ruled that we have separation of church and state and I have no doubt that Romney, if elected can do the job he was elected to do without his religion being a problem. So don't worry about it. It's only our business.

Dislike of Obama would be the main reason. If cotton candy was running it would get my vote, might be the safest alternative. I do not like Obama but not fond of Romney either, the state I live in will vote Romney so I do not have a choice anyway.

The stove pipe and the Jew thing are kind of mild, the "White Horse" prophecy is the fun one.
    http://fairlds.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/cobabe-whitehorse.pdf

It has a little bit of everything in it, the "White Horse"(Mormons) with the help of the Red Horse(not identified) will save the constitution. The whole world seems to be involved it mentions Russia and China as well as the British that gives bayonets to the "Black Horse"(it seems to refer to African Americans) and it refers to the "Pale Horse"(American people) It is a good read if you have time and fancy the world VS the US with a civil war at the same time kind of story. Almost forgot the lost tribes of Israel build them a temple after they win.

The LDS seems to deny everything but the Mormon saving the constitution part.

    Don't make it ours.

We would not be at all thrilled to be invaded by a Mormon.

So you don't find democracy desirable?

I'd say that Obama's complexion has a lot to do with the derangement syndrome affecting right-wingers today.

For some you maybe right but for most I do not think so. I can think of several people that conservatives would embrace that have the same or darker skin tone.
