Thread: Thought Control in Mao

  1. Default Thought Control in Mao

I am not a pundit on China. Never been there. I learn things as I read and ask associates, such as James Garrow of the Bethune Institute and Pink Pagoda Organization, about circumstances and status.

National Review (founded by Wiiliam Buckley Jr.) is one of my favourite online conservative magazines, where so many smart and knowledgeable people contribute.

I am sure you would have done a lot of experiments if you studied science during your school days. If you learn the process of neutralization by reading without doing any experiment, it would be hard for you to believe that when you combine two dangerous substances (for example, hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide), you would get two safe substances (common salt and water).

If you had never seen an acid and an alkali in your school laboratory when you studied science, it would be very dangerous for you. Who knows? You may mistake them for some sorts of drink or even plain water.

Similarly, when you learn about a country and its people, you have to travel there to see for yourselves. Don't just believe whatever the writers tell you in some books and magazines. Fortunately, you should have come across some Chinese emigrants in America and Europe, otherwise you might think they are another species of American natives.

Nowadays, Chinese are free to travel anywhere in the world -- the US, Europe, Africa, Japan, South Korea, India and other parts of Asia. Once outside, they have free access to anything in the Western world -- the Internet, foreign newspapers and even porn magazines. Then how can they be controlled by any thought?

You are honest enough to admit you have never been to China. Compared with you, the Chinese are at least one point up -- they have been to your country!

If you really want to see a country where the people are controlled by the thought of the state, you have to go to North Korea. There you will find that everybody has to behave like a robot as seen during the funeral of Kim Jong il -- marching and crying in unison.

Learning things by reading and asking is not enough, you have to go there to see the real stuff. If you just believe whatever other people tell you without trying to see and find out the truth for yourself, you will be controlled by the thought of others. Worst of all, you may even become a victim of your own thought.

Reedak... you are quite right about being there and seeing. However, viable contacts also help one to know. China is a conflicted country since they have become used to materialism. A middle-class has sort of developed. But the poor are still poor. And are the likely ones chosen for sterilization.
