Are you an introvert or an extrovert? If you're not sure you can take a Myers/Briggs type test here

I'm interested because a book I just finished reading points out that introverts find alternate ways to express themselves, such as online forums. I'm wondering if that's the case and that there are more introverts here than in the general population.

Could be a sampling problem coming up, you might get more extroverts than introverts who own up to their condition

But put me down as an introvert. However I find it easy to express myself in person but with the proviso that the discussion is, for want of a better word, "technical". I'm hopeless at small talk.

Sorry to go off topic but this is related to my business. I don't use open brain-storming exactly for these reasons, I use a form where people write their ideas around, I collect them and put them on a whiteboard and ideas are voted upon.

    Back to the topic...

    Quite true!

The book's writer makes the point that introverts hate small talk. They don't do it well because they have no interest in it and aren't comfortable faking interest.

Not off topic at all in that brainstorming seems to actually restrain rather than encourage creativity partly due to its effect on introverts. This was news to me even though it seems there's more than 40 years of research showing that brainstorming doesn't produce the desired results. Despite this many companies including my own continue to use it regularly.

I like your idea on collecting ideas. Allowing people to privately write them down deals with two preferences of introverts - they are more creative in private and express themselves better on paper than in a group setting.

I took this assessment once before, for a work place group building sort of thing. Introvert was part of my assessment, but I can't really remember the specifics. I do remember being pretty impressed by the accuracy of the results though.

I hate these tests because you come up with different percentages each time. There is one 150 question one though. I guess that's pretty thorough.

Edited because I found the thing Wolverine posted:
ENTJ - "Field Marshall". The basic driving force and need is to lead. Tend to seek a position of responsibility and enjoys being an executive. 1.8% of total population.

I am generally pretty extroverted, and I can't really explain why I come to this place anymore...... Habit I guess...

I don't get why I am extroverted. I am comfortable around people, but I don't seek out people. Maybe I'm just an extroverted misanthrope.

Classic INTJ. The first time that I read an INTJ personality profile I thought it was my biography.

    You're lucky I'm not a "feeler" then...STS.

I never put too much weight or thought into what some coneheads think about my personality.
