This is stunning.A D.C. elementary school has decided to declare Friday
as " Trayvon Martin Day ".Unbelievable.The justification being ... it is part of
an ongoing seminar for " Let's Keep Our Children Safe ".
Malcom X Elementary Principal J.Harrison Coleman says she hopes the lesson
will reduce the needless violence and Bullying in the Community.
" The children at Malcom X know the Name Trayvon Martin " Coleman said.
" They know the incident. They know because what they see in the news
and what they experience every day."

    Any link to the story?

Other than that, it's just like having an MLK Day. Except it's the exact opposite of what MLK means to people.

I think our poster objects to teaching conflict resolution or in underming the gangsta sub culture.

    The actual news story.

I fail to see what is bad about kids learning of current events.

In an effort to better educate students and their parents about race relations and social injustice, a D.C. elementary school has declared Friday “Trayvon Martin Day.”

Teachers at Malcolm X Elementary in Southeast are using the unfolding case and the story surrounding Martin as part of their "Let's Keep Our Children Safe" seminar.

Malcolm X Elementary Principal J. Harrison Coleman says that she hopes the lesson will help reduce the needless violence and bullying in the community.

"The children at Malcolm X know the name Trayvon Martin," Coleman said. "They know the incident. They know because of what they see in the news and what they experience every day."

Coleman said that every adult who attended the seminar would receive an Arizona Iced Tea and each student would get a bag of Skittles.

"We want to send a message to stop the bullying and bring about a happy spirit," Coleman said. "A sense of bonding within the community and within the school."

Can the kids turn in any stolen jewelry that they may be in possession of?

I don't know. I am not sure why you are asking me. Have you considered entering your query into Google and seeing if you can find an answer?

Did you 'fail to see' this?

In an effort to better educate students and their parents about race relations and social injustice

It's the very first line in the article. Where is the 'social injustice' in incident?

I guess this is to be expected at a school named after a racist black supremacist.

The left doesn't mind racism, just as long as it's directed at the right people.

I did not say there was. If you have an issue with an actual topic being discussed in schools, perhaps you should simply not educate your own children.

The days of honoring War Heroes and pioneers of scientific and medical discoveries are long gone.

Nowadays, the loony left worship and honor butt slammers (Harvey Milk Day) and hooded druggies with stolen jewelry on them.

There is no hope for America anymore.

Billy the Kid, Al Capone, Bonnie and Clyde, and many others are known as exciting and venturous people today too. Amazing how history changes perception.

They'll eventually go there, too. Any white conservative area is on the list to be taken over. If I'm not mistaken, there's a very large Hispanic area in southern Idaho, already. Liberalism is coming.

No where does the article say they are honoring anyone. Instead it looks like they are using the incident as the basis of a discussion.

I think this sends the absolute wrong message. The court case has not concluded. We have no idea what will come out in the evidence phase, so at the very least it is inappropriately jumping the gun. What if the defense attorney has a witness he's been hiding that would indicate that Trayvon had been casing the establishment, what if a witness comes forward that completely exonerates Zimmerman, than this entire elementary school has egg on its face. I'm not saying that this will happen, but it could. Malcom X and Dr. King were men whose stories were concluded. We know the great things they did. Trayvon and George Zimmerman's story is still in the courts.

Moreover, to indicate that this is about "bullying" is oversimplifying to the point of maybe even being flat out wrong. The young man who hung himself because children picked on him for being gay and liking Lady Gaga was bullied. This is not a bullying incident. This is manslaughter or homicide. Eight year olds are not going to be able to comprehend the law or understand the full ramifications of this case. How will teachers explain the police officers and the decision they made? This will promote distrust in children of men with badges...and for someone like me to feel queasy about that is saying something.

    This was a stupid idea.

This is flat out Irrational. This is a form of Advertising an Event that had No
beneficial effect for Society, especially in school.
It's like teaching kids in grade school the role the KKK played.
That comes later in life.In High School.
This is a form of Indoctrination. What are Kids gonna learn about the
Trayvon incident that they can grasp and learn any lesson about.
Just ask yerself. There isn't any.Just like there wasn't any lesson to
learn from Rodney King other than what wasn't reported. There were 2 blacks
in the back seat of that big car Rodney was speeding at 100 m.p.h. thru
the dregs of L.A..Those 2 blacks in the back seat cooperated with the
Cops.Rodney King fought them Tooth & Nail.
This is pure Indoctrination to be used as exploitation.
Make the Name Trayvon a household name,as if something to be remembered
fondly. What Trayvon did was not something " fond ".
This is a classic example of Dumbing Down.

    I disagree.

Nowhere in the article or the interview was it stated that Trayvon Marin was in the right. It appears that a school is teaching using a current event as a basis. Clearly they note, as demonstrated by the article I provided, tha tthe case is still unfolding.

Malcolm X gets elementary schools named after him. I wonder if there will ever be a David Duke elementary school?

You don't think what I wrote is true? Education is telling a story of convenience and ideology. Do you think our youth are taught in school about how many Native Americans president Andrew Jackson was responsible for murdering? Or even how murderous most Native American tribes were? My point is history always changes perception, no matter what the reality.

Yes, I'm sure an elementary school who named themselves after a racist black supremacist will be teaching children that Trayvon was in the wrong.

How many eight years olds are subjected to current events involving murder allegations and police misconduct?
