Michigan House Passes Sweeping Abortion Bill

    By HuffPost | 06/13/2012 9:52 pm

“The Michigan State House of Representatives passed one part of a massive, three-bill omnibus package on Wednesday that would restrict access to abortions and heavily regulate clinics that provide them.

The bill would impose new insurance and licensing requirements on abortion clinics that bill opponents said could force them to close. It also would regulate the disposal of fetal remains, require some physicians who perform abortions to carry $1 million in liability insurance, ban the use of teleconferences to prescribe abortion medication, and force doctors to screen women for coercion before providing abortions.

The bill passed by a vote of 70 to 39, with all Republicans and six Democrats voting for it, after two days of protests and an emotional debate in the House chamber.

Democrats said the regulations were unnecessary and that the bill's purpose is only to shut down abortion providers in the state. Some of the female lawmakers tied the legislation to the so-called Republican "war on women."

“I’m flattered that you’re all so concerned about my vagina,” said state Rep. Lisa Brown (D-West Bloomfield). “But no means no.”

State Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Detroit) suggested that women withhold sex from men until they stop the bill. "Stop having sex with us, gentlemen," she said. "And I ask women to boycott men until they stop moving this through the House.”

Supporters of the bill said it was about protecting women from shoddy abortion clinics.

“I was amazed to find out that there are clinics out there are not inspected,” said state Rep. Ray Franz (R-Onekama). “My deskmate’s auto shop gets inspected more. The women of this state deserve better protection.”

Legislators decided to postpone a vote on a second bill in the package that would ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.”

    .......

Well, the republican “War On Women” continues as all republican run states rush to crush the full service medical clinics for women by the November elections so that no matter who is forced out of office..the sleazy, unconstitutional laws will stay.

It does matter to the women’s reproductive organs that drooling and farting old men can stand up in government and blatantly display their rancid interest in women’s uteruses, and that they don’t think women are smart enough to make any decisions on their own...like, some hapless female presumably made the decision to marry the old, farting legislator though....

All of this uterus fervor is sure to land squarely at the election booths, as America’s women will never go back to barefoot and pregnant by some old codgers that are trying to control our lives thru some maladjusted, born-again, illogical sense of sin.

There is no way any woman in 2012 is going to serve a life of grim diaper- changing, poverty, and losing her ability for a good paying career because of one night of fun, when her date’s condom broke.

These useless laws will all be overturned as the republican party comes to a grinding final ending as the dinosaur of 2012.

How is protecting the unborn, AND WOMEN, from abortion profiteers a "War on Women"?

Abortion is one of the most MEDICALLY DAMAGING THINGS A WOMAN CAN HAVE DONE TO HER REPRODUCTIVE ORGANS,and Leftninnies call it "womens' health"?

The national moratoriumon giving womken OTHER OPTIONS is over,as Planned Parenthood's BILLION DOLLAR "non profit" abortion mills are finally coming under the public's scrutiny.

Late term abortions, gender-based eugenics abortions, etc., are causing Americans to WAKE UP to the horrors being perpetrated under the guise of "womens' health"....

Goes to Conservative / Tea Party Jobs creations ... the logic ... especially the economic logic is easy to follow ... the more children a woman has to support the more high-paying jobs for women that will be magically created ...

Goes to PROTECTING the UNBORN..AND WOMEN, from abortion profiteers, who NEVER TELL WOMEN THIS:

A List of Major Physical Complications of Abortion

    CERVICAL, OVARIAN, AND LIVER CANCER:

Women with a history of one abortion face a 2.3 times higher risk of having cervical cancer, compared to women with no history of abortion. Women with two or more abortions face a 4.92 relative risk. Similar elevated risks of subsequent ovarian and liver cancer have also been linked to single and multiple abortions. These increased cancer rates for post-aborted women may be linked to the unnatural disruption of the hormonal changes which accompany pregnancy and untreated cervical damage or to increased stress and the negative impact of stress on the immune system.

    UTERINE PERFORATION:

Between 2 and 3% of all abortion patients may suffer perforation of their uterus, yet most of these injuries will remain undiagnosed and untreated unless laparoscopic visualization is performed.5 Such an examination may be useful when beginning an abortion malpractice suit. The risk of uterine perforation is increased for women who have previously given birth and for those who receive general anesthesia at the time of the abortion.(6) Uterine damage may result in complications in later pregnancies and may eventually evolve into problems which require a hysterectomy, which itself may result in a number of additional complications and injuries including osteoporosis.

    CERVICAL LACERATIONS:

Significant cervical lacerations requiring sutures occur in at least one percent of first trimester abortions. Lesser lacerations, or micro fractures, which would normally not be treated may also result in long term reproductive damage. Latent post-abortion cervical damage may result in subsequent cervical incompetence, premature delivery, and complications of labor. The risk of cervical damage is greater for teenagers, for second trimester abortions, and when practitioners fail to use laminaria for dilation of the cervix.7

    PLACENTA PREVIA:

Abortion increases the risk of placenta previa in later pregnancies (a life threatening condition for both the mother and her wanted pregnancy) by seven to fifteen fold. Abnormal development of the placenta due to uterine damage increases the risk of fetal malformation, perinatal death, and excessive bleeding during labor.8

SUBSEQUENT PRE-TERM DELIVERIES AND OTHER COMPLICATIONS OF LABOR:

Women who had one, two, or more previous induced abortions are, respectively, 1.89, 2.66, or 2.03 times more likely to have a subsequent pre-term delivery, compared to women who carry to term. Prior induced abortion not only increased the risk of premature delivery, it also increased the risk of delayed delivery. Women who had one, two, or more induced abortions are, respectively, 1.89, 2.61, and 2.23 times more likely to have a post-term delivery (over 42 weeks).17 Pre-term delivery increases the risk of neonatal death and handicaps.

    HANDICAPPED NEWBORNS IN LATER PREGNANCIES:

Abortion is associated with cervical and uterine damage which may increase the risk of premature delivery, complications of labor and abnormal development of the placenta in later pregnancies. These reproductive complications are the leading causes of handicaps among newborns.9

    ECTOPIC PREGNANCY:

Abortion is significantly related to an increased risk of subsequent ectopic pregnancies. Ectopic pregnancies, in turn, are life threatening and may result in reduced fertility.10

    PELVIC INFLAMMATORY DISEASE (PID):

PID is a potentially life threatening disease which can lead to an increased risk of ectopic pregnancy and reduced fertility. Of patients who have a chlamydia infection at the time of the abortion, 23% will develop PID within 4 weeks. Studies have found that 20 to 27% of patients seeking abortion have a chlamydia infection. Approximately 5% of patients who are not infected by chlamydia develop PID within 4 weeks after a first trimester abortion. It is therefore reasonable to expect that abortion providers should screen for and treat such infections prior to an abortion

And there are MORE...MANY MORE. It's about time pregnant women were given ALL THE FACTS, wouldn't you agree?

At times yes. And lets not kid ourselves, Abortion is not some super risky procedure that has a high death rate for women. You're just going to have to accept abortion is perfectly legal, perfectly acceptable, and is here to say.

Abortion increases a woman's odds of cervical and uterine cancer, future problems carrying a baby to term, and a variety of other ailments I have detailed above.

You just have to accept that "Abortion on Demand" as a LIFESTYLE CHOICE, is coming to an end. Michigan os FAR from the first states to pass much stronger restrictions on abortion.

Its good to see people fighting for the rights of the unborn.

We all know that if it was left up to the liberals there would be a 2 year grace period after having your child so that if you don't like their eye color or how tall they are you can simply take it to the nearest drop off ditch for termination and try again.

They place no value on human life whatsoever.

Repeat it all you want, sweetheart. It's a dead argument. Until the National Association of Glorias brings their wrath down upon the countless liberals who routinely, ROUTINELY engage in misogynistic anti-woman behavior, the "war on women" rhetoric will continue to be seen by the public for exactly what it is - a sad and desparate political attempt to get people to vote Democrat this fall. Nothing more.

LOL! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the maturity level of the people running our country on the left. "You cannot haz nookie until I get my way!" What are we, 15 here?

Notice how none of the feminists bother to stop and see it from this perspective. They never stop to consider that it might actually be helpful to women.

^There is so much socially programmed ignorance in this post I don't even know where to begin.

Ladies, if you want to "control your uteruses" so badly, go find another place to store your unborn children. We don't give a (*)(*)(*)(*) about the uterus, itself. Only the human being inside it. You don't have any more right to use your uterus to deny another human being their basic right to life than I do to punch someone in the face and claim that you can't tell me what I can do with my own fist. Stop being so melodramatic and realize that your rights end where someone else's begin. And you can only do what you want with your body as long as it's not hurting someone else. Stop hurting unborn children, and you can do whatever you want with your uterus. Stick a firecracker up it for all I care.

Because women have no responsibility for their own sexual activity?

Don't have unprotected sex, would be good advice to those who become pregnant.

And ,please, spare us the "myth" about all the "birth control failures", thank you. FAILURE TO TAK THE PILL properly, is the number one "birth control failure"...

American women are, by and large, MUCH SMARTER than to get pregnant on accident.

I think the government should create the ATF (Abortion Task Force). If the government can highly regulate my second amendment rights then they can regulate a woman right to privacy.

Common sense. If YOU are the ONE WHO WILL GET PREGNANT, YOU are SMART to take matters into your OWN HANDS,as far as contraception.
If you object..BLAME NATURE....it's true of females of ALL SPECIES....

The pokee can do her own birth control meds or devices OR insist that the poker use a condom. In any case, the baby doesn't deserve a death sentence for the mistakes of the pokee or poker or both.

The hysterical and cynical LIES of the anti-abortion and anti-contraception whackjobs is simply propaganda.

If they cared about women and babies AT ALL, they would support contraception to the fullest, but they don't.

And for what risks there really ARE from abortion, its 100 TIMES SAFER to have an abortion than to have a baby!

The anti-abortion mob opposes birth control as well.

They no more care about unborn babies than they care about children in the countries we bomb. They simply want to punish women who have sex.

    Utter, TOTAL BULLCRAP.

Childbirth is the MOST NATURAL THING A WOMAN CAN DO.

Forcibly opening her womb, to tear out a fetus, in UNQUESTIONABLY more DAMAGING.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Doctors slam ‘abortion safer than childbirth’ study

A study by family planning advocates concluding that abortion is safer for women than carrying a child to term has been sharply criticized by doctors who say the years-old claim has been debunked by data on the long-term effects of abortion.

Dr. Elizabeth Raymond from Gynuity Health Projects in New York City and Dr. David Grimes of the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, Chapel Hill, published the study in the February 2012 issue of the journal Obstetrics & Gynecology, examining estimated mortality rates associated with live births and induced abortions in the United States between 1998–2005. The data, taken from the Center for Disease Control and the Planned Parenthood-funded Guttmacher Institute, found 8.8 deaths per 100,000 live births, versus 0.6 deaths per 100,000 abortions.

Raymond and Grimes are associated with Family Health International, a leading pro-abortion international family planning group, and both have lobbied for distribution of the abortifacient Plan B pill without a prescription in America.

A Reuters article on the study linked by the Drudge Report this week quoted an OB-GYN student at Columbia University Medical Center in New York defending the study against outlandish criticisms.

Is giving birth to your child more dangerous than aborting him? That's the claim that one new study makes.

“We wouldn’t tell people, ‘Don’t have a baby because it’s safer to have an abortion’—that’s ridiculous,” Dr. Anne Davis told Reuters Health. “We’re trying to help women who are having all reproductive experiences know what to expect.”

But several pro-life doctors say that, because it fails to include the long-term adverse effects of abortions, the years-old claim that abortion’s mortality rate is lower misrepresents the overall effects of abortion on women versus bringing a child to term.

“[Abortion] is not safe when you look into the long term,” Dr. Mary Davenport, president of the American Association of Pro-Life OB/GYNs, told LifeSiteNews.com. “They were only talking about immediate death. If you do the math, there is a much higher rate of risk-taking behaviors,” including suicide attempts and substance abuse, said Davenport.

Microbiologist and bioethics commentator Gerard Nadal told LSN that such data fails to account for the physical damage often sustained by women during abortions, including damage to reproductive organs that has been strongly linked to subsequent pregnancy complications or even sterility. Meanwhile, he said, abortion’s link to increased risk of breast cancer, and childbirth’s protective effect against cancer, is ignored.

Another OB/GYN, Dr. Matt Phillips of CEC For Life, agreed, saying the study’s claim is “at least 20 years old” and based on skewed information. “You can make the numbers look any way you want to make them,” he said.

Patrick Carr of Family & Life of Ireland noted that countries where abortion is illegal, such as Ireland, routinely have the lowest maternal mortality rates in the world, while areas with liberal abortion laws such as South Africa top the maternal mortality charts.

Those who minister to post-abortive women also say that the study fails to reflect the real-life consequences of abortion.

Fr. Frank Pavone of Priests for Life, which oversees the Rachel’s Vineyard Ministry and the Silent No More Campaign, called the study’s conclusion an “outdated myth.”

“The dangerous effects of abortion have yet to be fully measured,” Pavone told LifeSiteNews.com. Experience with post-abortive women, he said, “shows that it is often only years or decades later that the harm abortion causes a woman becomes evident, or that the link of that harm with abortion becomes known.”
