I just wanted to create a thread to discuss horror movies in general...

    Likes/dislikes, favorites, etc...

My personal favorite horror franchise is Nightmare on Elm Street, mainly because I like Freddy's one-liners, and the creative kills...

My favorite character, though, is Candyman...

That character was so creepy, and the setting just compounded it...

My favorite horror movie, by far, is The Exorcist...

Everything about that movie is flawless...

So, I just woke up, having coffee & turn the TV on. I do a little channel surfing & what do I see? "Night of the Living Dead"! Still one of my favs & the original zombie movie that started the zombie genre, at least for me. I still love zombie movies & "The Walking Dead" TV show for that matter. I caught a zombie movie(just the last 20 minutes or so) the other day that I had never seen before. I missed the title, it had an Iranian girl & some gay guys. Maybe you know of it?
I wasn't much into the "Freddy" thing, but I've seen a lot of the movies, all in bits & pieces. I know one thing, I wanted to kill that SOB myself. I caught a lot of the one with the kids in an institution. I guess the kids were the offspring of those that originally burned Freddy.

    I love zombie movies...

The original "Night of the Living Dead" is an undeniable classic...

As far as Freddy, I just enjoyed his wit, and the puns, a lot...

And the movie you're referring to is Nightmare 3: Dream Warriors...

    Old-schooler, huh?

The Ring was a relly good, genuinely scary movie...

    I loved it...

Pet Sematary is one of the best adaptations of a Stephen King novel...

That, Needful Things, & Carrie were all great...

Well, except for the ending to Needful Things...

But, it ended corny like that in the book too...

I can't wait to see the remake of The Stand...

    Event Horizon is AWESOME!!!

I love everything about that movie, esp. when they see the tape of the old crew members, and the guy is holding his own eyeballs, speaking Latin...

The Exorcist is one of the best ever...

Ever see the unreleased trailer from it?

    I love that one...

I had not seen that before, I can see why they wouldn't have aired it as a commercial. The first time I watched the Exorcist I was quite young but I still remember how terrified I was (slept in the closet with a bible that night). Did you ever see squeals? Second one completely sucked but the third was decent.

Event Horizon was well done, acting was great, scenes/ make-up/ costumes all well done.

I would say 95% of horror films are complete (*)(*)(*)(*), but once in a while you find a gem. Not really a fan of slasher films, demons and zombies are more my thing.

I only like the classics from the 1930s through 1950s
The original Invasion of the Body Snatchers left me afraid to go to sleep.
As a small child I avoided Jell-o because of The Blob.
The scariest movie I've ever seen is Rapture, because it is rooted in my religious beliefs.
Really People?, if you resemble the photo in the avatar I'd like your opinion about Son of Dracula (1940.) Dracula Jr., played by Lon Chaney Jr., marries the woman he's converting into a vampire. When a man who had previously courted her discovers this he exclaims, "You're a vampire."
    "We prefer 'undead'" she replied.
I believe that is the first effort in establishing political correctness. However, early in the film that same lady tells an adult black man to "have some of the other boys" bring in Mr Alucard's luggage.
What do you think of that?
Also I can't resist telling people the moral of the story in House of Dracula (1945), cure one monster at a time.
That should be our approach to political problems too.

"Into The Mouth Of Madness" is up there on the list- that movie is plain scary. Another of John Carpenter's films "Prince Of Darkness" which suprisingly still holds up today being 20+ years old.

    - Candyman - is about the most dopey, unbelievably terribly written and acted
    horror movie of it's day.
    It's entire schtick { yes it's one of those schtick Horror flicks }
that relies almost entirely on Hocum.

I would engage a discussion on Great horror, but none y'all have the
    faintest as to what constitutes.
It would be like discussing Rock n Roll at an Old Folks Home back 20 years ago.
Or Literature at a Grade School.
Sorry but Y'all ain;t up to it.
Good Horror has nothing to do with Blood & Guts,Gore or dopey theatrics like
    - Night Of The Living Dead -.That is Troma.I have never seen a Troma Flick
that merits more than 10 minutes of my time.

One of the Best acted, written and screened Horror movies ever.
Nothing about the movie appears plastic,or contrived.Watching it allows the
viewer a chance to feel they are actually a part of something demonic.
The reason was overall temperance. The movie paces itself instead of the ususal
temptation to toss in some quickie gratuitous schlock. The pace is justified and
very credible. The viewer is instructed every step of the way as to what is going on.
There are no hidden agenda's at play. Most Horror has hidden faults to mask a
sloppy screenplay.Of course the movie was based somewhat in fact.
Yes,the actual Exorcism is over the top.But it was developed. Not believable
but credible.Therein lies the difference.Horror movies that are good usually rely on
a storyline and some degree of justification.
There are exceptions as the Clive Barker shocker - Hellraiser -.

It's all about the zombie movies for me.

I like zombie movies because they present a somewhat realistic scenario, and in turn, a rational reason for being tense after watching such a movie. Movies that rely on some far out supernatural premise do little for me.

Wow, I wouldn't have expected to see these in here. Gotta give you a "like" for this one.

"In the Mouth of Madness" is actually one of my favorite movies. I can think of very few movies (that are actually worth watching) that completely (*)(*)(*)(*) with your head like this one does. It's not that scary, in my opinion, but the story itself is so out there.... it stays with you for days while you try and figure it out. Brilliantly written movie, one of the most original concepts I've ever seen. I can't say enough good things about it.

"The Thing", "Prince of Darkness", and "In the Mouth of Madness" are actually a loosely connected trilogy. All have apocalyptic themes to them, with the last movie being the closest to the theme. "Prince of Darkness" was OK. The last half hour was great, but it was a little too slow for me, overall.

Most Horror movies suck. Most are nothing but cliches and splatter porn.

However, I do like ones like Scream (which was a parody of all the worst things in horror movies), The Descent and Zombieland.
