And unregulated capitalism failed in the 19th century as well. Why do you allow Libertarians/ coonservatives to try it?

First off, not American. Second off, went to a private school. Please, do not try to group me in with your educational system.

And it is a flagrant lie that unregulated capitalism was a scintillating success, which is why there have been so many depressions and recessions under it.

Regulated capitalism does work, but we are talking about a properly regulated system, like what we see in Australia. There system does not nearly have as many problems as the American economic system, even though by rights the American Economy should far out trump ours. But it has nothing to do with ability and all so much to do with how well regulated a system is to STOP it from screwing itself over.

Really? Explain how the Government caused the Great Depression, and how the current Global Financial Crisis is the result of government activity. And then, I will rebutt that argument with fact as opposed to one-liners.

Don't forget health care. Oh, and a strong economy. Oh, and poverty intervention. Oh, and comparative training of your armed forces.

Probably because you have 10-20x the amount of poverty.

For those who can afford it.

So mighty, we're still bogged down in Afghanistan and Iraq 11 years later. Might means nothing without strategic planning.

Because you've still got that thing in Afghanistan and Iraq going on.

England spoke German before the USA.

    Again, they did too.

The Mongol Empire was far more successful.

Could take a leaf out of most other empires that reached their apex.

Except the poor and the unemployed, which capitalism needs in order to keep wages down by creating a labour pool looking for work.

    http://www.prosperity.com/rankings.aspx

    You were saying?

No offense mate, but my country went through the GFC with barely a scratch. It's more amazing that people don't copy Australia's economic model.

Of course, for America to do that, it would need to acknowledge that a world outside America actually exists.

Every economic system that has been tried has failed. Its usually not about the economic system its about the people who are in charge of overseeing it.

No, it generally is the economic system, though you are right, the people in charge do tend to cause problems as well. There are a number of good economic systems out there, our Australian model of regulated capitalism is a good example of that, despite how successive governments have tried to screw it up.

The problem with most economic systems is that they were developed by idealists, or people who tried to apply mathematical principles to people. Communism works on the philosophy that people just want to work together for the common good (hint: they don't). Laissez faire capitalists believe that supply and demand and the system itself will self-regulate the market and everything will be hunky-dory (hint: never is). The problem is that, in both frameworks, the implenters have blamed other things for why their system screwed up, rather than trying to amend the system which is flawed.

    Is "miseducationi" a word?

Capitalism without control would never work. I think the Dems are far more compassionate and helpful to the middle class than Republicans. And I think Libertarians are nuts. Most do, which is why it has no legs.
    Personally I don't care about the upper 1%. I know. I'm mean!!! :)

The socialist response would basically be paleoconservatives.

As much as I disagree with socialism on a non-voluntary basis, it was never really tried, in the same way that free market liberalism was never really tried.

social security, medicare are a couple of the most successful and moral programs ever...

trickle down on the other had is a republican myth that they have been trying for the last ten years = massive fail

the reason we succeed where others fail is we use the best of all systems, we do not artificially limit ourselves to just one

I don't think you know exactly what you're talking about. Socialism as we know it, didn't start appearing until the late 1700's.

Republican economics aka laissez-faire capitalism has a historical success rate of 0.00%! The happiest countries in the world have mixed economies which are considered by Republicans to be socialistic.

And if you took a bunch of children and gave some as much candy as they wanted, but forced others to eat healthy food and limited their candy, the ones who got unlimited candy would be the happiest. A happy country isn't necessarily better off than an unhappy one. Greece used to be very happy, now look at it.

Children who are given unlimited candy are always happy until the diabetes sets in ;)

Bad reasoning. The candy kids would be happy only in the short run. The healthy eaters would be happier. Greece has problems partly because they let the rich get away with not paying their share of taxes.

Or, Greece has problems because they borrowed too much money to give out too many benefits which crippled their economy and discouraged people from working. In the long run, if the Greek government hadn't borrowed so much money or offered so many benefits, the people would have been happier and wouldn't be rioting or enduring austerity measures now.
