Some people hate documentaries and prefer to look at short forms of information that don't require much time and I usually like those too, but they provide little depth and context to their subject matter. I like the way documentaries take a paced journey of a sorts into the subject, the history of the subject, and the future.

If anyone has any good documentaries that they would like to suggest, just place the link here. If you can't find the link, just the name will do. (make sure it's accurate).

    * The only thing I would ask is that there be no argument or criticism of other peoples choices. If you disagree or dislike it, show it by hitting the dislike button and it's preferred that you actually watch the video before you critique it. If you like it, feel free to hit the button. If you want to discuss it, start another thread, but this one will be just for suggesting good documentaries political, economic, social, or whatever.

You can also include a brief description of the documentary if you feel it needs one.

    Flow: For Love of Water
A documentary about our fresh water supply and how it is being used by different groups of people and parties of interest.

There are too many to list! But 'Vice' documentaries are really cool. They cover a wide variety of topics, and they're typically concise, while still being interesting.

The Spirit Molecule and Ambush at Waco. The congressional testimony and the recorded interchange between Koresh and the ATF is bone-chilling.

Sold :) I'll see if I can find it somewhere.

This isn't for me, but everyone. If you have a documentary that you think would be cool to share, just post the link like I did with the first one or give the accurate title of the documentary. The documentary could be about anything like science, religion, politics, social cultures, etc...

Bronowski – The Ascent of Man - The science is a little dated but the attitude about science and mankind is outstanding
Lord Clark - Civilization, A Personal View - Another good one
Ken Burns - The Civil War - Burns is always good
The “Walking With” series - Dinosaurs, mammals, prehistoric man, etc

Although the factual content of this movie documentary of obama titled '2016' is to late for the voting electorate to chew on, its never too late for those millions of brain dead obama voters to watch the genesis of obama's rise to become America's two term socialist/marxist-in-chief. I've seen the movie/documentary and it is incredibly well researched, and was accepted everywhere with a standing ovation at the end of its showing.

"The Cursed and the Forgotten" by Sergei Govorukhin about the First Chechen War & the Russian sick society.
    Unfortunately only Russian language.

Good topic. I really get off on documentaries.

That documentary was about as impressive as the handful of logical fallacies that D'Souza uses in his god debates. He tries to psychoanalyze somebody without ever interviewing anyone that actually new him (other than a brother who briefly met him one time). A fun exercise, I suppose, but no real substance.

    Restrepo was good.

John Pilger's are usually worth watching. The Right wing Rednecks would particularly enjoy his documentary about Hugo Chavez. (actually it is very worthwhile for anyone to watch)

Ya, Restrepo was really good. The best documentary I've probably ever seen is Dear Zachary. It's about a guy who makes a documentary for his friend's unborn son after his friend has passed away. It's an intense emotional roller-coaster; just go watch it, you won't be disappointed.

Some series I've seen fairly recently that I like:

How the Universe Works. A Discovery Channel series

African American Lives. A series where Henry Gates traces back the genealogy of some famous celebrities like Morgan Freeman, Tina Turner, and Chris Rock.

The House I Live In. Just out, is a must see.

"David Simon (of The Wire) recently said that the poor had been monetised by the war on drugs, in that big business could make money out of their incarceration ,out of their free labour whilst incarcerated, and that the percentage of violent offenders in prison had fallen from 33% to 7%."

The Unknown War is a sprawling, 20-part documentary history in film of the World War II conflict between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union.
Produced with Soviet cooperation after the release of The World at War, which the Soviet government felt paid insufficient attention to their part in World War II. Released in 1978, The Unknown War is sympathetic to the Soviet struggle against Nazi Germany. It was quickly withdrawn from TV airings, some say after complaints by historians as to its accuracy, some - because of the inconvenient truths about the Soviet involvement in the war effort[citation needed], while others link the withdrawal to the growing tensions between East and West after the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.

    Thanks for it.

The one's I know of don't really feature it exclusively and, as such things go, are conspiratorial in nature. There is book by Smedley Butler that is before that time called "War Is A Racket" that might interest you. I'll see if I can find any exclusive ones.
