Democratic Senators Joe Manchin, Mark Warner, and Harry Reid said today that it's time to re-think our approach to guns. All three senators have been "hands off guns!" proponents in the past. On the Republican side of the aisle -- as at the NRA -- the silence is deafening.

But one prominent conservative today said that the Sandy Hook Massacre "changed everything", and came out forcefully against the gun lobby:

I really don't know how or why Libs think most folks will be "with" them on banning guns, but the facts speak for themselves. Myself, I would encourage Libs to keep pushing for gun control and please push HARD! Folks will see ya'all for what you are. As much as you want to believe that the majority is with you.....they're NOT. People of the U.S. are smart enough to know that the only difference between us and the people of Myanmar is our Government stands a very slim chance of forcing their will on us like Myanmar did.

Go ahead and keep pushing the envelope, the citizenry won't tolerate it forever................

"I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve." - Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto

Yamamoto was smart enough to know that as the Pearl harbor attack was in progress.

The people of America are thankfully intelligent to understand that statements like these are the thoughts of a paranoid and partisan mind. They have historically filtered you people out, but issues like this shooting bring you out of the woodwork, front and centre. You parade yourselves in public and as in any society in the world, the nutters, the paranoid, the extremists soon find themselves marginalised.

So go for gold, keep on fighting the fight, all you're doing is reminding the rest of America that there is a dangerous underbelly which should be treat with extreme caution.

Only the evil gun makers are selling?

The fact is that ordinary Americans are buying those guns in big numbers.

And they are buying them because Obama is threatening to use his power as a dictator to take away guns.

It didn't change anything! People need to stop watching the tragedy being shown over and over again on their TVs.

Yes, it was a local tragedy. That doesn't mean the laws need to be changed:
    http://www.politicalforum.com/gun-control/280264-something-has-done-why.html

Well, actually one law does need to be changed:
    http://www.politicalforum.com/gun-c...-gun-free-school-zones-should-reexamined.html

Guns are not the problem here.

"I grew up in Los Angeles when gun laws were few and crime was low. Nearly everyone I knew had a 30.06., a couple of .22’s, a shotgun, and a revolver or two sitting around their house. We could buy guns mail-order and pick up our ammunition at the local grocery store. A gun was a common companion to the road maps in the glove compartment of the car. Did this cause crime? In 1952, there were 81 murders in Los Angeles. In 1992, 40 years and many gun laws later, there were 1,092 murders. If the increase in murder had kept pace with the increase in population, there would have been 142 murders, a 75 percent increase. Instead, murder increased 10,350 percent. The Los Angeles Police Department used to solve more than 90 percent of the murders committed in the city. Today, the figure is 60 percent. Detectives complain that the caseload is too great to conduct the thorough investigations that were common in the 40's and 50’s. It is far worse for lesser crimes, Merchants complain that customers brazenly walk out of their stores without paying for merchandise because they know that the police will not respond (at least in a timely fashion) to a call reporting shoplifting. The police are simply overwhelmed by the sheer volume of crime and are kept fully occupied by murder, armed robbery, and rape. When police arrive at the scene of the crime, the crime has already taken place — the victim has already been murdered, robbed, or raped."

The government will incrementally take our guns, and we will stand for it. Remember Louisiana after Katrina. We say that taking our guns is the line in the sand, but in truth there is none. Americans do not have what it takes to preserve the liberty our forefathers died for. We will lose our guns, and we will lose our freedom. Sure, we will probably keep the right to kill our babies and get (*)(*)(*)(*)ed in the ass, but those things which really matter will be gone, and the dystopia will set in. I would like to believe it is otherwise, but Americans have proven to not have the fortitude to stand up when the government says, "It's just one little thing, you'll never miss it". And they take an inch at a time, until miles are gone. It's time we leave the US. This dream is over.

What is there to rethink? This guy was a lunatic.

I think we need to rethink how we keep our school safe.

You know all the vets who are out of work and underemployed, put a few of them in each and every school.

    Politicians over complicate everything.

No doubt waiting for the emotional screaming to die down. Jon Alter was calling for the NRA leadership to be assaulted by his beloved One.

    Again I have to ask,
Why were only 44 felons out of 15,000 who tried to purchase guns illegally prosecuted by Obama's Justice Department last year?

    Can anyone answer this question?

    What is the REAL AGENDA?

It is clearly NOT protecting our children!
