Here are some suggestions for using the site.

Please PM if you have a tip to suggest to other members.

    Rules

Please make sure you have read the Rules and Guidelines: http://www.politicalforum.com/rules.php

Breaching the rules can result in temporary and permanent bans. We are strict about not letting a member come back if they are perm banned.

    Tabs and Menubar

Be sure you click the green "tabs" to see the other sections of PF. After clicking a tab, a new "menubar" will appear with different text links.

    Browsers

Some users experience problems, particularly with IE9. We recommend using the latest version of the Chrome browser, or FireFox. If you must use the IE browser, we suggest IE10. IE9 is especially problematic with Win7.

Jumping directly to the first unread post

This is particularly useful for a large thread. You can be taken to where you left off.

When you are viewing a list of threads (including the New Posts or Today's Posts): The ones with unread posts have a very small blue circle with white arrows. Near the start of the title of the thread, near the PF stars. Click this small blue circle to be taken to your first unread post.

If you are viewing a thread: If it has unread posts, there will be a text link saying "View First Unread" (and the same small blue circle) in the bar near the thread title.

Easy access to the new posts

From any page: In the top right corner of the site, it says "You Have ___ Unread Posts". The text "Unread Posts" is actually a link which will take you to a listing of updated threads.

    Advanced and "Quick Reply"

Note that there are 2 reply windows. Advanced takes you to a bigger editor with more options. The smaller form that comes right up is called "Quick Reply". It's usually quicker once you hit submit.

    Auto-Save

As you are typing your reply/post, the editor will auto-save your text at regular intervals. If something goes wrong with your browser, computer, internet connection, or PF, then you should be able to get back some of your text. It won't automatically appear later on. When you open that same reply or new thread window, you will see "Restore Auto-Saved Content" at the bottom of the editor. (Underneath the box you type in.) Click that to get your text back. The text will be what the auto-save saw. So you might still lose part of your text, but most of it should be saved this way. We highly recommend that you copy your text to clipboard before you click post, or use some other method to ensure you don't lose what you composed.

    Text size

You can increase the font size in your browser, to make PF even more readable. In most browsers you simply press CTRL and + to increase the size. (CTRL and - to decrease.) You can also alter your Windows or other operating system settings.

    FAQ

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions which is linked in the upper right hand corner of our site pages.

    Getting help

You can post your help request in the "Feedback and Questions" section or PM a Staff member. If you don't have an account on PF, you can use our Support Ticket System to get help creating one.
