What is your favorite type of wine? My favorite is a good Malbec (Argentinian) or Chianti (God bless Italy). I'm much more into red wines than white. I've thought about making my own wine, but I just haven't taken the time to do it. Hmmmm...distill some bourbon or make some wine? Hmmmm...those tough decision in life.
Definitely shiraz on the red side. I like a chablis on the white side, but also chardonnay and I don't care a whit about the jokes about "chardonnay-drinking socialists"
Reds in general but I like any good wine- I am far fussier with white's than I am with reds. Big hearty reds.
I really enjoy a dry merlot red wine after dinner (yeah, yeah---I know it should be during). I'm a frugal Franzia girl--but really enjoy the good ones when I'm at a nice restaurant. My husband thought he would do me a favor and make home-made wine---but I can't touch it. The first batch tasted like yeast, the second like Koolaid and the last came close---but has an aftertaste that I don't care for. I threw out the first two batches and use his third batch for cooking.
Where we live an old-vine Zinfandel is king. But we also enjoy a cotes du rhone, barbera, red grenache, sangiovese, malbec, Barolo, pinot noir. We try premium wines and under $15/bottle wines and we're excited each time we find a cheap wine with the flavor and complexities of a premium wine. Since the recession began, lots of premium wine producers have been dumping wine under new labels which are sold at Trader Joes, etc. For those with a reduced budget, IMO this is a great time to find some premium wines for under $15/bottle...
You and I have the same taste, I rarely drink white wind and if I do its Pinot Grigio. Chianti is my first love, ive been drinking it since I was a kid malbec and cabernet savignon second and merlot at the bottom.
Shiraz for me too,, especially Hunter Valley Shiraz. Not from the Hunter Valley, but the Barossa, St Hallet Faith Shiraz is superb.
We're blessed with riches in shiraz I think. And even though I'm a South Aussie I am totally regionally agnostic!
I'm a Pink Catawba, Reunite, Andre Cold Duck, and very few others sipper. I can sit and drink a bottle of Pink Catawba by myself, at the drop of a hat. Andre Cold Duck when I'm fixin to snuggle with sweetness. And Reunite when I'm eating steak or BBQ out.
Jack Danials.... Oh wait thats not wine... Lol!... I'm not a seasoned wine drinker but I have to say I perfer a merlot... Something about the deep dry reds I like. Oh BTW I liked the web of the wines at the front... Being a visual person that really did connect with me. I read alot about different spices and fruity characteristics of wine, but nothing like a good visual to put it into perspective.
Simple barbarian that I am, I have come to really enjoy Carlo Rossi wines - especially the Merlot. I buy it in 5 liter boxes-at a staggering cost of about $ 4 a liter. This wine has a distinctly "fruity" taste,which inches up to the edge of "sweet" - but doesn't cross the line. Excellent before, during, or after dinner.
Meh, I've drank that stuff. On a dare I drank 1/2 a gallon in one drink (not taking the bottle away from my lips)...I was really drunk. I normally don't drink it, but cheap box wine can still be tasty for a descent price.
My favorite wine is a good mead. I have a bottle of mead made from apple blossom honey and juniper berry juice. Very good. Sweet, with a fruit taste, but with enough kick to make it worth drinking.
Might add: I REALLY like to mix about an ounce of brandy (nothing fancy or sweet) into my glass of Merlot. It's something that used to be done back in the olden days: brandy added to wine as a preservative-and as a reinforcement. Resulting drink is smooth -but has a little oomph to it.

I also like White Zinfandel. Or a nice Port for after dinner, though haven't had any in ages. Once upon a time, Riunite D'Oro was a favorite. Pinot Grigio or a Gewürtztraminer will also do. Perhaps a Liebfraumilch; we used to drink something called "Black Tower" a lot. Oh, and I love the mead.
Bully Hill ! Wow ! Brings back memories - tent camping at Watkins Glen with my late wife, the winery tours, the wild thunderstorm-and how we sheltered from it.... Ah, well.
